Information and Communication Technology Academic

T

he main focus for the ICT department has been the implementation of technology based Learning Centres. The English, Society and Environment and Mathematics Learning Areas now have access to classrooms with over thirty computers in them. Teachers in these Learning Mr William Quartermaine Areas take advantage of Director of Information Technology technology to complement their curriculum programs. It is pleasing to see that teachers are being very creative when using computer technology to motivate and enhance their students learning experience.

Hardware and Software development We have continued the process of upgrading general purpose classrooms with multimedia technology. Teachers and students now have access to over twenty classrooms that contain data projectors and wireless access points. Teachers use their Notebook computers in these classrooms to connect to the Internet, show DVD’s and use presentation software for delivering lessons. Our major software focus has been on the continued development of our assessing and reporting software. We have made changes to reflect outcomes based education and we are looking at models that will

provide a more comprehensive statistical analysis of academic and behavioural data.

Curriculum The ICT Learning Area offers courses in Year 11 and 12 (Business Information Technology and Digital Media). These courses provide students with the ICT skills necessary for University, TAFE or work. In Years 8, 9 and 10, ICT skills are integrated into Mathematics, English, Society and Environment and Science. ICT teachers work closely with teachers in these learning areas to use technology to enhance the learning experience.

Staff A special thank you to our teaching staff: Mr Roger Blatchford and Mr Richard Cackett for their professional conduct and their devotion to education and teaching. Also to Mr Neil Seaman and Mr Warwick Gaff in our IT Support department for the smooth running of the College network.

The Future A major focus for 2007 will be on the development of a new software product for assessment, reporting and statistical analysis. We will also endeavour to increase access for teachers and students to presentation media in the form of projectors, screens, presentation software and audio and video media. Mr William Quartermaine Director of Information Technology
