rt education contributes to the total growth (social, emotional, intellectual, aesthetic, and creative) of the individual. It encourages cultural awareness, social responsibility, visual literacy, creativity, and personal worth. Art plays an important role in shaping our understanding of Ms Rita Basilio the world in which we live. Art Coordinator This year our art students have continued to explore, express and communicate ideas, feelings and experiences in their artwork through the use of drawing, painting, print-making, ceramics and a range of other media in a variety of styles. A Riot of Colour enveloped Gibney Hall in Term Three, when Trinity College hosted the Junior Schools Heads Association of Australia Art Exhibition, which featured artworks produced by students from thirty primary schools. We were very excited that artwork produced by Trinity student Peter Perry (5B) was selected to be featured on the poster advertising the Exhibition.

This exhibition became part of our Art Week, a new initiative developed by the art department to help celebrate and promote the Visual Arts at the College. During Art Week students participated in a number of activities including an art quiz within their pastoral care groups and an art competition. Guest speakers included artist Zoë Watson and university lecturer/art historian Carl Altman. Art Week proved to be a very successful venture. This year the art and music departments also joined forces to provide a night of pleasant viewing and entertainment during Senior Arts Night. Our Student Art Exhibition was once again a success this year with a number of awards being presented to students including our major award, the Signum Fidei Art Award. This award is sponsored by Trinity Old Boy Patrick Coward and aims to encourage our art students in their artistic pursuits at the College and beyond. This year the Signum Fidei Award was judged by artist Leon Pericles and art historian/lecturer Mr Carl Altman. Congratulations to Perry Joyce (Year 12) who was the recipient of this award for his oil on board painting Ms Joyce. Congratulations also to Brendan Harwood (Year 12) who received the runners- up prize and Liam Dee for winning the Year 11 prize. Liam Dee also won the Peoples’ Choice Art Award. The Adelphe King Prize for Drawing was won by Year 10 student Alexander Malkovich. This prize is sponsored by Mrs Adelphe King who is a previous art teacher of the College and an advocate of the arts. Thank you to our sponsors who have continued to support Trinity students in their artistic endeavours. Congratulations to the art students this year for their enthusiasm and their achievements in art. Ms Rita Basilio Art Coordinator
