T

he year 2002 has been a year of consolidation after a number of new curriculum initiatives last year. Design and Technology, Systems Technology and Applied Technology courses moved into the Year 12 phase and were well received by students. A new design and technology course was introduced in Year 10 with students sitting the IGCSE exam which is an internationally recognised exam under the auspices of Cambridge University. The compulsory Integrated Information Technology course in Yr 8 continues to flourish and will be extended into Year 9 next year. It is widely regarded as one of the best courses of its type in schools. New courses in Outdoor Education and Political and Legal Studies will move into Year 12 next year and have proven to be very popular additions to the curriculum. Trinity continues to constantly review courses to meet a wide variety of student needs, abilities and interests. Vocational education continues to expand through the provisions of structured work placement with the Onsite programme. We are grateful for the work that the coordinator of the programme Mr Paul Baker does for our students. A number of students received opportunities for traineeships as well as employment through the programme. Mercedes College also continues to provide our students with the opportunity to experiences first class training in Hospitality leading to employment and apprenticeships as well as TAFE accreditation.
