Our tough, though relatively short season, began on the 19th of August with over one hundred athletes turning out. Accordingly to Head Coach, Mr Marshall, this was one of the largest first day turnouts. There was some speculation that we would be a main contender at the PSAInters.

Our first Saturday event was against Iona Presentation College and this was probably one of the team’s favourite meets.

The intensity of training picked up in the second week with many of the Year 8’s out to prove their ability and place themselves in contention for a position in the team. The Year 8’s must be commended for their efforts this season. It can be difficult to work so closely with the senior students and the boys did very well, making new friends and earning respect. Our second Saturday event against Wesley showed a very consistent display of by our athletes, reinforcing beliefs of being at the top half of the leader board.

The third week of training increased in tempo with the athletes showing the discipline required of the team. With the Age Championships at the end of this week the athletes were keen to show their coaches and peers they had the talent to be the best for their age group. There were many inspirational performances on the day.

The fourth week of the athletics season can be flat and lacking in enthusiasm. However, this season, the team trained with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and dedication. The team showed great spirit and performed creditably against Aquinas and Hale with many athletes achieving personal best times and distances. The day was the proof we needed for the team members to believe we were genuine contenders for the Inters. Inters Day, 21st September, was very successful for the College. With a very creditable third behind Hale School and Scotch College the day was one of celebration of College community spirit when athletes were joined by their parents and coaches for breakfast, the team prayer in the Chapel and the team dinner in the evening.

The team is very appreciative of the coaches for preparing our team and the parents for assisting with the officiating for the lead up events, preparation of morning teas, breakfasts, dinners, sausage sizzles and all the tasks required to get our team to compete.

I am confident that having achieved third place in the last two years the Trinity Athletics team has the foundation to progress higher in PSArankings.
