Hockey

2002 saw a new First XI group take to the field after the loss of 8 players from last year. The young group made significant strides in their development throughout the season and some good young players including Andrew Hooper and Damen Cooper performed well in their debut seasons.
Highlights for the year included a spirited performance against Scotch which saw the opposition under extreme pressure due to some excellent goalkeeping from Simon Beale and some great defensive skills from Tristan Mitsopoulos and Nick Stappenbeck.
Another significant game was played against Wesley with Trinity playing fast attacking hockey which created several goal scoring opportunities. The hard work of forwards Nathan Messer, Gerard Hill and Sam Cuthbert paid off with a classic field goal and the conversion of a penalty stroke.
Thanks to all the parents for their support throughout the year. Congratulations to Captain Gerard Hill for his determined attitude which was recognised when he was selected in the P.S.A. combined side.
The 2nd XI had quite a successful season this year. We were able to win one game and draw 3 and were narrowly defeated in a number of other fixtures. The highlight of the year was a 1-1 draw with the second placed Christ Church team followed closely by a similar result in the last fixture against third placed Aquinas. The 7-0 nil defeat that we inflicted on Guildford gave our goal difference a good boost! Afeature of the team was its very strong defence, lead by captain Brendan Dee and the ever reliable Lyle Nelligan and Peter Jones. Our half line was very competitive with Karlos Villanueva giving all for the team in more ways than one. Greg Melton was a tower of strength as was Cameron Jansen before his well deserved promotion to first team level. Justin Flamer was a cut above the opposition in the many positions he played throughout the year and Daniel Oehlers was great in the goals until also being promoted. The boys endeavour was always obvious and contributed to their success.
The 3rd XI gave their all at every fixture. After every game the opposition coaches congratulated the boys for their endeavour and the sportsmanship shown by the team. The contribution award was won by Robert Di Giallonardo with consistent defensive performances from Ruairi Kenyon and Christopher Nixon.
