FIRST XI SOCCER

This season was one of change for the First XI with eleven new players having their first experience playing at the top level in a PSAcompetition. There was also a new coach in Peter Butler, a former professional soccer player who had recently migrated from England. This put an additional responsibility onto the shoulders of our experienced players, especially the Captain of the team, James Isaia and Vice-captain Pasqualle Marrapodi. The team started strongly winning the first three games against Guildford, Scotch and Christ Church. In the fourth game the team suffered its first loss,1-2 against Aquinas. In the next game against Hale the team fought back after conceding an early goal to win 2-1. The following week against Wesley, when after dominating 95% of the game without being able to score a late breakaway goal resulted in our second defeat of the season.

Three wins in games seven, eight and nine left Trinity College two points behind Aquinas and playing them in the last round. This final game lived up to all expectations with great football skills and sportsmanship shown by both teams. With the game level at 1-1 Trinity dominated the final fifteen minutes, but were unable to score the championship winning goal. So ended a season where the players should take great pride in their efforts and team spirit.

Special thanks must go to Peter Butler who in his first season coaching a PSAteam worked tirelessly to develop the squad and improve the skill level of the players. I would also like to highlight the efforts of two players, James Isaia and Nathan Howe, who both played thirty consecutive games for the First XI Soccer.

SECOND XI SOCCER

This year we began poorly with a loss against Guildford in our first match, however our team came a healthy second in the competition. Michael Von Felten as team Captain, led by example, being the highest goal scorer for the season.

Our defence was led by Peter Miranda, Giavanni Bai and Richard Wilson. Our forward line had some brilliant attackers, led by Jarrad Parks, John Barnett and Robert Bretherton. In the mid field, Jason and Simon Fonceca and Andrew Connell were consistent.

Abig thank you must also be passed onto the many parents who attended the games and gave the team moral support and encouragement.

THIRD XI SOCCER

Endeavour and enthusiasm were never in short supply this year. The team experienced a mixed season of results, but were competitive and always displayed a high standard of sportsmanship, which was most evident in our last game of the season against Aquinas. Our skill level was sound but can thank our goalkeeper for keeping us ‘in the game’ against much better opponents. Overall we are satisfied with our final standing and look forward to the 2003 season.

10A SOCCER

Assistant Coach, Mr Adam Sibson and I experienced season that was most enjoyable and rewarding. With a 7 win, 2 loss,1 draw record, the boys have every right to feel proud of their efforts, but still with an accompanying twinge of what might have been.

I must mention Steven McFall’s goal-keeping effort in our final game, John Papas’ consistent work in defence, David Von Felten’s tenacity in every game, and Luke Parker’s selfless leadership, as demonstrated by his occasional stints in goal (despite his loathing of the position.)

I wish the boys all the very best, and I hope that they continue to remember that a champion team will always defeat a team of champions.

10B SOCCER

The Year 10B Soccer team showed in their first game that, the desire to win and the ability to do so is strong with the team. Having their hopes set high, the 10B’s did not give up and fought hard for every well-earned victory. Due to an extraordinary series of events, the hope of a clean sweep for the season was shattered by a single goal loss to Christchurch. Our thanks to Mr Blake for guiding us to the third season as the best ‘B’ team.

9A SOCCER

The 2002 Year 9ASoccer team consisted of fifteen dedicated and very co-operative players who formed a strong team which clearly outclassed all other teams and which will be very successful in the future.

The strength of this side was the brilliant defence, headed by Captain Andrea Terni, who proved to be very hard to penetrate against the best forwards of any other team. The forwards were very aggressive and fast, but too often failure to convert a good effort into a goal, due to inaccurate kicking.

9C SOCCER

The Year 9C Team, coached by Mr Marsden, saw some exciting action, winning all but three of their games by massive margins. Our nemesis was Christchurch who overpowered us on both encounters. Mention should be made of Jemin Jo who, in the second clash with Christchurch, was stretchered from the field with a nasty facial injury. Co-Captain Luke Janeczko was player of the season.

8A SOCCER

The 8Asoccer team was extremely successful, as overall winners of the competition. The team only lost one game throughout the entire season. The better players for the season included, Nic Tatasciore and Jack Rocchi.

8B SOCCER

We had a great squad of Year 8’s who played their hearts out for Trinity. They were committed to training and to giving of their best in the games. We started out with two victories against Guildford and Scotch, winning 8-0 and 10-0.

Great contributions were made by Alex and Brendan De Guara, Stefan Quaresimin, Kwan Chia and Loenard Ong.

8C SOCCER

The Year 8C Soccer team proved to be invincible; they not only won every match but trounced their opponents. This spirited team always played an aggressive and tenacious game with special skilful contribution from Michael Dinh.
