Pilot dies in a gyrocopter crash

Rod’s still paying it forward

Cobar’s emergency services were called for assistance following a report of a light aircraft crash near Tilpa on Monday. State Emergency Services, Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW, Police and Paramedics received the information just after midday that a gyrocopter had crashed into powerlines on a property south of Tilpa. It’s believed it caught fire on impact killing the 52 year old male pilot. Officers attached to the Central North Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Low range drink driver charged The birthday of a much-loved and generous local identity Rod Lumber (who suddenly passed away last November) was celebrated on Monday by his wife, Chris (pictured above) with the Ay-Jay’s Café crew. Rod lived by the ‘Pay it Forward’ motto and often paid for others to enjoy a good coffee at Ay-Jay’s. Rod still had some ‘Pay it Forward’ money left at the café when he passed and so in Rod’s honour customers received a $1 discount on their coffees on Monday until Rod’s money ran out. ▪ Photo contributed

After returning a positive result, he was conveyed to Cobar Police Station where he submitted to a breath analysis that returned a result of 0.070 grammes of alcohol per 210 litres of breath. He was charged with Drive with Low Range PCA - 1st offence.
