from TCW 280623
The Mini Wanderers had their first win for the Cobar Junior Soccer season finishing with a 6-nil victory in their match against Rovers on Saturday morning.
Juan Engelbrecht netted three goals, Delilah McBride booted two and Levi Mackay also kicked a goal for their Wanderers team.
In the other Mini’s match, Rangers finished with a 3-1 win over United.
Darcy Geppert scored twice and Dayna Armstrong also booted a goal for the Rangers while Max Preisig was responsible for netting the goal for his United team.
The Mini’s weekly Gumnut Milkshake Awards went to Delilah McBride, Macie Wilskins and Isla Jo Murray while Juan Engelbrecht, Noah Seymour, Zane Ntamuhanga and Mason Northfield took home the Cobar Hotbake Donut Awards.
In the Mids division, United beat Rangers 3-nil with Tom Preisig kicking two goals while Cooper Suridge netted their other point for their team.
In the other Mids game, Rovers beat Liverpool 5-4 in their close match.
Rovers’ goals were scored by Mark McBride (3), Joseph Theakston (1) and Jack Geppert with Henry Geppert netting all four of Liverpool’s goals.
For the Mids, Chris Florence, Sophia Le Lievre, Tom Preisig and Henry Ntamuhanga took home Milkshake Awards.
Emma Griffiths, Harlow Chaplain, Logan Mackenzie and Hayden Griffiths won the Donut Awards.
In the Seniors game, Wanderers have been the consistently stronger team this season but Rangers pulled it together last Saturday for a strong 8-4 win.
Rangers’ goals were scored by Jeremy Theakston (3), Macee Brown (3), Caleb Theakston (1) and Fraser Talu (1).
Isaac Theakston (3) and Braiden Jones (1) were responsible for Wanderers goals.
For the Seniors, Braiden Jones and Chase Cavalot earned the Milkshake Awards while Ata-Marie Haronga and Macee Brown collected the Donut Awards.
Cobar’s men golfers contested the annual Foursomes Championships over 27 holes on Saturday.
The favorites, the two Fraser boys, Alec and Mark, were going to be a hard combination to beat if they played up to their ability. And they did with the boys beating their old man, Stewart Fraser, who had teamed up with Jay Egan, by five strokes to take out the A Grade Championships. Third place went to the combination of Peter ‘Ding’ Lawrence and Peter Robinson.
B Grade was won by the ‘Beagle Boys’ of Cobar golf, Greg Clark and Steve Manns.
The best net score of the day was recorded by the team of David Tomek and Sean Bayliss with 110½.
Only one Nearest the Pin prize was won and that was by Alec Fraser on the 3rd hole.
A field of 14 players contested the June Monthly Medal event on Sunday.
Peter ‘Ding’ Lawrence (still riding high after his Parramatta team’s big win the night before) played an inspired round of golf to score 38 points and take out first place ahead of Paul Kershaw on 35. Chris Powell came in third with 34 points (hoping to hide the fact that he was a West Coast Eagles fan).
Ray Yench was 4th with 32.
Nearest the Pin prizes were won on the 3rd hole by Marc Quinn and on the 15th by Robbie Cummins.
There’s been some movement in the Bill Bartlett Match Play competition.
Bian Smith was too crafty for Paul Kershaw and Scott Mayne took out the Captain, Alec Fraser, to move into the next round.
In the next round, Jay Egan is to play Brien ‘Darc’ Obray and Peter ‘China’ Brien is up against Mark ‘George’ Fraser.
If Egan is ‘on’, he should beat Darc and China is expected to be too cunning for George.
Polyfabrications Day, a three-Man Ambrose sponsored by Garry and Janine Wilkin, will be held on Saturday while the July Monthly Medal will be contested on Sunday. Out of Bounds
