Camels show courage in adversity

A team of just 10 brave Camels took a bus trip to Walgett on Saturday to take on the competition front-runners Walgett Rams in the Western Plains Rugby Union Competition.

The 10 included new recruit Ed Paul and young Rooster Jordan Bruce.

Walgett lent Cobar three men and they kicked off a 13-a-side game.

The Camels’ team was made up of mainly forwards so they were faced with an immediate overlap at every play, and the final score, 90-0, certainly reflected that.

Paul was something of a revelation not only can he play the game, he also knows the rules!

He will remember his first introduction to Western Plains Rugby after his cover defending tackle resulted in a gash to his chin which needed a trip to hospital and stitching.

The three Fijian imports tried their hearts out but Marika Tuilau was a marked man and he was given no room to move.

Camels Captain Kody Martin, Mitch Dunne, Troy Hill, Matt Bolam and Jack Fazulla ran themselves to exhaustion.

Bruce was just starting to get the hang of things in this Rugby game when the final whistle went.

All 10 Camels shared the Best & Fairest three points for taking the trip even though they copped a hiding to nothing.

Fazulla deserved the Players’ Player acknowledgement.

The 90-0 beating was a massive turnaround to the first round confrontation between the two sides. In that game, Camels led the Rams with five minutes to go.
