Restoring Your Energy How we choose to restore our energy levels varies for each of us. What will replenish one person can deplete another, so you must recognise what works for you. All too often, we can get caught up in ‘doing’ and fail to notice our energy levels dropping, until we finally become exhausted. Just as your car would not run without the necessary fuel, the same applies to your energy reserves – don’t wait until you are running on empty to refuel. In Ayurveda, this relates to understanding your own ‘prakruti’ - your inherent nature - which guides you towards making supportive choices for your own mind/body constitution. Embracing who you are with all of your unique mental, physical and emotional qualities is fundamentally essential in Ayurveda. This can be further understood through the system of the doshas, details of which can be found in my previous columns. When we are feeling energised, this emanates outwards in our lives, nourishing those closest to us and in turn, further afield. Whether that is in our own families, or within our community, we will feel more

inspired to follow our dreams and to connect and help others when we feel restored.

One way to do this is by creating a vision board, a tactile way to get in touch with what motivates and inspires you. Recently, I decided that I wanted to make more time for art, something I have always enjoyed. This one decision led to joining an art class and meeting a whole new group of people who
have generously taught me how to paint. What makes you feel emotionally nourished? Try creating a space in your home or in your garden that feels safe and calming, a place where you can peacefully meditate. Being outside in nature or in an area that soothes your emotions, to slow down take some deep breaths and feel grounded again. Tending to your special space can go a long way to lifting your spirits. Choose a favourite aromatherapy oil which is uplifting, such as lemon, mandarin or a therapeutic blend that you find appealing. Clear any clutter and surround yourself with the things that bring you a sense of joy. This includes being with people who support and encourage you emotionally and with who you can offer the same in return.
