A Letter from the Editor

Ed’s Letter Well folks, it’s here with a bang — well almost, it’s only 6 weeks until Christmas and the proverbial silly season. Soon after we’ll be welcoming in 2024!

What a year it’s been! On a personal level and on a work level, there’s been quite a few low points this year however as I’m always trying to ‘look on the bright side of life’ – there’s been some amazingly good things as well. Reflecting back I think the good far outweighs the bad – I really wish that it’s the same for everyone reading this.

I know that many people, religions and groups don’t subscribe to the Christmas message.

I get that and in the world of Supernal, it’s recognition of all people’s and their beliefs – with that said, We wish all people a safe and happy festive season! In a world going mad, always remember your family and friends; keep an eye on them and simply celebrate life. It’s too short and precious to do otherwise.

Change in Art Director Saying farewell to Christel Mathelot is a tough one. Christel has been producing fabulous art production for us since the March 2021 issue and we officially introduced her to our readers in May 2021.

As amazing as her art direction and work been in over 20 issues, to me even more special has

Quote of the Month “Better late than never!” is the modern version of Geoffrey Chaucer’s quote. “For better than never is late; never to succeed would be too long a period.”

Or the full line version — “Ye that it usen, I counsel ye it let, lest ye lose al; for bet than never it late; never to thrive, were too long a date.”

This rings true in so many ways; especially pertinent now in relation to waking up, seeing the reality of and making changes in how we can work toward healing not just ourselves, our planet as well!

Geoffrey Chaucer phrased the words first seen in the 1386 ‘The Yeoman’s Tale’, based upon the magic and mystery of alchemy, the theme of change, and “Not believing everything you see.”

Chaucer was born in London around 1343, and died 25th October 1400. As well as his collection of tales and poetry, he was trusted and aided by three successive kings, Edward III, Richard II, and Henry IV in his career in public affairs as a courtier, diplomat and civil servant.

NEWS Will We Ever Learn?

Again, we are seeing horrific images of war on our TV screens, as this historical and on-going conflict rears its head once more. It really is a case of his-story as, dependant on where members of one’s family originate, both factions are equally outraged and damaged. The loss of life, including so many children, is unimaginable in this day and age, as it appears that humanity has learned nothing from the past!

Today, 6th November, the death toll is reported to stand at 9,488 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis killed. That is nearly 12,000 ordinary families mourning the loss of loved ones. Add to that the countless thousands that have lost their homes, their livelihood and their community. The impact is beyond our imagination in this country, where we may be sinking under the control mechanisms rapidly being put in place — at least our family members are not being blasted prematurely into the next life by a perceived enemy. At least we currently have a degree of choice over our future.

It seems that as the most advanced species on the planet, we still have not learned how to all be in the same playground without stealing each other’s toys or beating up on someone who looks different or has a lifestyle different to our own.

Looking at the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it is clear that many other nations have played a part in the whole issue, starting way back in the late 19th century. At this time, Zionists sought to establish a homeland for the

news news Jewish people in Ottoman-controlled Palestine, a region roughly corresponding to the Land of Israel, as spoken about in Jewish tradition.

The whole sad story began with the Balfour Declaration issued by the British government in 1917 during the First World War. It announced its support for the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine, then an area which had a small minority Jewish population. This declaration from the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour was contained in a letter, to Lord Rothschild, a leader of the British Jewish community, dated 2 November 1917, for transmission to the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland. This letter was subsequently published by the press on 9th November 1917. The move led to an influx of Jewish immigrants to the region.

A point to note here is that this is the same Rothschild family, the most famous of all European banking dynasties, which for some 200 years exerted great influence on the economic and, indirectly, the political history of Europe. The dynasty was founded by Mayer Rothschild (b Feb 1744) who, along with his five sons, became international bankers, establishing branches in London, Paris, Vienna and Naples by the 1820s. In addition to banking and finance, the Rothschild businesses have encompassed mining, energy, real estate and winemaking, now based in USA and trading under the name Vanguard.

The establishment of Israel, the wars that both followed and preceded it, led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. They became refugees, sparking a decades-long conflict between Israeli and Palestinian people. The Palestinians seek to establish their own independent state in at least a part of historic Palestine, whilst the Israeli defence of its own borders, control over the West Bank, the Egyptian Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip, plus Palestinian internal politics, currently make this goal impossible.

Settlement became a policy of the Israeli government in earnest after the 1967 Six Day War, which resulted in the Israeli seizure of the West Bank and Gaza from Jordanian and Egyptian control, respectively. Some settlements are small, with less than 100 people, while others have grown into large towns of thousands with their own industrial areas. Data on these settlements was collected from several sources, including the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA); Peace Now, an Israel based non-governmental organisation that tracks settlements; and B’Tselem, another Israeli-based organisation that tracks human rights violations allegedly committed by Israel in the Palestinian territories.

The legality of these settlements remains a source of debate, though under international law, specifically Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, they are considered illegal.

Numerous peace negotiations have taken place over the years, yet no lasting agreement has been reached. The conflict has been marked by violence from both sides, each with their own version of events and reasons to keep the fight going. Many obstacles remain, including the issue of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, the status of Jerusalem and the fate of Palestinian refugees.

So how can the reasons behind this be deemed right or wrong? One’s version surely depends largely upon the geography of our birthplace and our genetic line. Each will see they are defending themselves against an aggressor and all will feel the pain that comes with such religious wars. Even that wording brings forward sadness. Every religion speaks of love and peace, every world teacher from Mohamed to Yahweh teaches love and peace, so how can this equate to a ‘religious war’? This is a war made by man, based in greed, ownership and the desire to be the winner, when in fact no-one wins, only those that supply the arms!

Hamas was founded in 1987, funded by Iran, during the first Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation of Gaza and the West Bank by a Palestinian activist connected to the Muslim Brotherhood. In 2006, Hamas won parliamentary elections and, in 2007, the group seized control of the Gaza Strip from the Palestinian Authority, which was controlled by the rival Fatah movement that governs the West Bank. There have been no elections since.

The group calls for establishment of an Islamic Palestinian state that would replace the current state of Israel and believes in the use of any means to carry out the destruction of Israel.

Another case of a political group presenting the best face possible to the people, while dancing to a very different tune beneath the surface.

These are the undeniable facts. Iran purchases arms from the US; Iran supports Hamas; the US supplies arms to Israel — see the link below. So, both sides are being bombarded by weapons from the same fundamental source. Who is the common denominator winning in this conflict?

Who benefits from its continuance? I will leave you to draw your own conclusions.

So, spare a thought for all the people under the duress of those much bigger puppeteers that pull the string for their own purpose.

When you see a march in support of either side, think only how you would feel if your family was living in the middle of this, avoid making a judgement. Irrespective of race, belief system or any other way in which we are taught to judge another, we are all people, we are parents, children and grandparents.

We feel the pain of loss and the fear of being disenfranchised in the same way. Our thoughts and actions make a difference, because when we say “Enough is Enough” it builds our resolve to live in the love and peace that all the great texts offer to us as our birth right.

November December 2023 In numerology, especially ‘Divinely Inspired’numerology, there are many ways to add the numbers, find the sum and divine the source code within.

Please, remember there is no right or wrong way to ‘read’ the numeric code. You will find that however you decide to approach it, blessings in the guise of a greater outlook will be yours. If you do stretch the confines of academic or traditional number reading and allow it to work for you, it becomes a map of options, opportunities and delightful surprises.

As we approach the gap between 2023 and 2024, lets us look at the ‘personal month’ vibrations of November and December.

In 2023, November’s 11 vibration becomes a 9, and December’s 12/3 becomes a new beginning — 19/1. Hence, you could feel a delicious anticipation, as the two final months of the Gregorian (western calendar) tip you into a little bit of predictive future awareness tempered with perhaps, a little impatience.

In the excitement of new horizons and wanting to make the world (starting with your own) a better place, remember to let go of control and manipulation tactics.

If you fixate, and try to manipulate, what is just across the steppes of the vast plains of manifestation, you may very well create needless stumbling blocks, and disappointment in 2024’s early months. With the correct mindset, the offer of health, wealth and happiness is ripe.

2024 is 8. Eight is infinite, eight is healing, abundance, financial, hard-working, big picture, great business and growth, and it is also the tone of integrity.

Don’t let yourself down, don’t be disheartened if what you see is not unfolding in the way you ‘think’ it should. It’s a good time to let go of judgment, limiting thought and behaviour patterns for good.

Let’s add (11+9+12+1+2023) 1+1+9+1+2+1+2+0+2+3 = 22 The hazardous, chaotic, compassionate, amazing is the result! Master Number 22!

Focus on and from the heart, speak from the heart. Be the calm in the storm, not the storm in a teacup. Whilst your heart may skip a few beats, it will also beat to the rhythm of Earth Mother ascending — a very unique vibration!

By Freya Savitri Sampson For two millennia around the world people have been celebrating ‘Christmas’ as the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.

However, surprise, surprise, the Bible makes no mention of a specific time or date of Jesus’ birth!

The most ancient traditions of Christmas are prehistoric, originating in the Northern Hemisphere. All were related to the Winter Solstice, on or around 21st December. Winter Solstice is the beginning of new Solar year, also known as ‘The Birth of the Sun,’ which is not dissimilar to the ‘Birth of the Son’. Coincidental? Doubtful.

In the Southern Hemisphere, as we reverse the seasons, the Solstice and Equinox dates are also reversed. This whole light/ dark, day/night calendrical process is called, ‘The procession of the Sun.’

The Winter Solstice is the time of year when the shortest day occurs with the longest night. Summer Solstice, in the Northern Hemisphere on or around 21st June, is opposite, the longest day and the shortest night. From the Summer Solstice, days gradually

There are balance points between each Solstice called the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes, which occur around 21st March and 21st September, a time when day and night are equal.

Christmas Pomp and Psychopomp Now, there are many other details we associate with Christmas that are quite intriguing. The North Pole, flying reindeer, Santa’s helper elves who work tirelessly all year to create the gifts. Then Santa, with his red and white suit and black boots, his sack of goodies, his unique home entry style down the chimney, stockings that he fills above the

feature fireplace and the decorated Pine tree… quite the process and regalia! So, how then did Christmas become wrapped up in this attire and mythos?

Saint Nicholas of Myra Most people are familiar with kindly ‘Saint Nick’, who was the Bishop of Myra in the 4th Century. Interestingly, red and white were the colours of traditional bishop robes, although historians also remind us that St Nick originally dressed in different colours.

Saint Nicholas’s reputation evolved among the pious, with his legendary habit of secret gift-giving introducing the belief of the traditional model of Santa Claus. The name Santa Claus was supposedly derived from the name in Dutch tradition, where little children called him ‘Sinterklaas’.

However, I hypothesise that this new name ‘Santa Claus’ is in part derived from Roman and Greek traditions. The Roman, Saturnalia (Santa) and Claus, ‘Nick’ in German, being the short version of Nicholas. This relates to St Nick, actually of Greek origin, yet the choice of the Germanic language and connecting to deeper origins of the Winter Solstice Shamanic or Pagan tradition in Germany and earlier still Siberia.

‘What now?!’ I hear you say.

You heard me correctly; Siberian Shaman…

Before we can go there, let’s continue to explore the modern evolution of Santa Claus and save the wildest for last!

Santa Claus It is a common myth that Santa Claus was created

by Coca-Cola. The truth is, Santa Claus originated as a political propaganda tool, created by the legendary American political cartoonist, Thomas Nast. It was much later that Coca-Cola Company capitalised on Nast’s creativity.

Thomas Nast’s Santa Claus made his debut on January 3, 1863, in the illustrated magazine Harper’s Weekly. He was created in keeping with the essence of the historical Saint Nicholas, renowned for giving gifts to the poor. Thomas Nast depicted Santa in a Union Army camp, the North Abolitionists loyal to Abraham

Santa, depicted in situ, giving gifts to the soldiers, whilst dangling a marionette by a string around its neck. The face on the toy sported has the features of President Jefferson Davis supporter of the Confederate South.

Nast continued to draw depictions of Santa Claus, evolving over time to become more like the visage of Santa Claus that we know today.

The article in the Smithsonian Magazine provides very interesting detail of how Thomas Nast utilised Santa Claus as a propaganda tool. However, the author minimises the origins of Christmas as a ‘Religious Holiday, pure and simple’, which is an inaccurate statement. Still, an informative read.

Haddon Sundblom and the Coca-Cola Santa Claus The Coca-Cola Company began advertising with Santa Claus in 1920. In 1931 they decided to take their campaign far more seriously.

They worked together with Archie Lee, the executive of D'Arcy Advertising Agency, who strategised to create a wholesome, family-feel Santa Claus. Coca-Cola then employed American illustrator, Haddon Sundblom to fulsomely develop the character of Santa. To do this, Sundblom drew heavily upon the poem ‘A Visit from St. Nicholas’, also known as ‘’Twas the Night Before Christmas’, first published in 1823.

In the past Santa Claus had been depicted in many ways, including a gaunt man, a scary looking elf, as Saint Nicholas and as a Union supporter.

Over time and greatly stylised

by Nast, he developed into a portly man in a bright red, white trimmed suit, bearing gifts, until Sundblom gave him his own character, entirely stylising him for commercial purposes.

This representation of Santa Claus took him out of the Religious or Political arenas and moved him into the homes and hearts of every American. Then, exponentially, to people around the world, to all those who were addicted to the cocaine laced sugary drink, enshrining Coca-Cola into every Christmas celebration and feast.

That is until the world started waking up to the diabolical nature of refined sugar with the release of ‘That Sugar Film’, in 2014 and Coke’s capacity to strip the grease from a motor vehicle engine!

Recap So far, we’ve found there is vital information missing from the Bible about Jesus of Nazareth’s birthdate. Australia sociologist Dr B Thiering wrote.

‘Jesus the man – born AD7 in March’, others wrote June 17th.

Regardless of timing it wasn’t the 25th December.

Also, a Greek Christian Bishop who created the tradition of ‘Secret Santa’ and that American propaganda, both political and capitalistic, is responsible for the creation of Santa Claus as we know him in his bright red and white trimmed attire, today.

Oh, hang on! Have we established why he really wears the red and white trimmed suit? Not quite.

Beyond that there are so many more hallmarks in the afore mentioned Christmas mythos list, which, as yet remain untapped.

Following the trail of breadcrumbs as in Hansel and Gretel, the origins of Santa’s not so street style, his sleigh pulled by eight reindeer in midnight flight from the North Pole, lugging his bag of treats, his peculiar chimney entry style, and even the way we decorate our houses, particularly fir trees at Christmas, lead back many aeons to the ancestral traditions of a two indigenous prehistoric-pagan arctic-circle dwelling peoples; specifically the Kamchadals and the Koryaks of Siberia.

Santa was a Psychonaut Now, just like so many of the best epic journeys, sagas and tales of the fairy, novel and myth persuasion, which we all know and love… they begin with the consumption of a prestigious amount of ‘shrooms’!

In preparation for the mid-Winter Solstice, on that eve the Kamachadals and Koryak shaman would go into the forest and collect a significant quantity of hallucinogenic mushrooms; ‘amanita muscaria’, commonly known in English ‘fly agaric’.

Then, after their preparation, the shaman would immerse himself into a heroic spiritual journey, going to the tree of life, a large conifer. This grew beneath the North Star, which sits directly over the North Pole.

Within its being, the Pine held the answer to the previous solar years’ challenges and knew the way forward for the village for the year to come.

Ah ha! So, Santa really does come from the North Pole!

Fly Agaric is easily discernible, it’s the bright red mushroom adorned with white spots, which we see in all the fairy tale illustrations. It’s not just here we find them; they’re throughout the older Disney movies, obviously the Smurfs cartoons, Super Mario Brothers video games and, perhaps even the Bible! Wait, what?! No birthdate for Jesus, now this!

The Jesus Mushroom Whilst there is still an enormous amount of conjecture around this topic, it is widely accepted that the Bible is loaded with metaphors and the mushroom is supposedly a symbol of Christ’s resurrection. This is the nature of the mushrooms natural cycle, feeding off decaying matter. So, we’re not meant to take it literally, except for the parts that we are told we must take literally…

Mushrooms feature greatly in the text, being the second most mentioned ‘food’ in the Bible, only second to apples, of course!

Pagans have long called the magic mushroom, ‘Food of the Gods’ and often is used to represent one or several Gods.

We’ve heard that the fruit of knowledge, the tree of life and the mushroom are already close friends in this tale for 1000s of years. Now add in the theory put forward by John M. Allegro in his book ‘The Sacred mushroom and the Cross’, in which he suggested that Jesus is not a man at all, but a Fly Agaric mushroom, now known as the Jesus mushroom. Allegro puts forward that He was simply a character invented by the

Back to Prehistoric Siberia These Fly Agaric mushrooms are quite lethal; in fact, one of the most toxic on the planet.

However, with a little prior preparation, they become less so when dried or pre-digested!

Reindeer were of great help in reducing the toxicity of the mushroom, since they love eating Amanita muscaria, without risk of being poisoned.

Their urine was consumed, as they’d already filtered out the poison while still maintaining its hallucinogenic properties.

Where the spirit mushroom does show up most clearly is in early and pre-Christian artwork.

This information is discussed in depth in the 2017 book ‘The Psychedelic Gospels: The Secret History of Hallucinogens in Christianity’ by Jerry and Julie Brown. They unravel the mysterious relationship between psychedelics and Christianity. They back their claims with abundant Christian iconography found in Middle Eastern and European churches.

Once ingested, the effects of the mushroom begin. What science calls hallucinations, the shamans describe as visions, often of the future.

They experience feelings of immense joy, often bursting into song, increased muscle tone and even superhuman

strength for short periods.

When the reindeer ate the prized mushrooms, they’d become euphoric, leaping around so high in the air they appeared to fly. They prized their fellow reindeer’s urine and even that of humans, post ‘shroom consumption, often found to be eating the yellow snow to take another flight! Also, both reindeer and human experienced the same sensation of flying through inner space.

Synchronously, as with so many other varieties of magical fungi, they grow most commonly under pine trees. This is because their spores move through their environment only on pine seeds. To keep up the cycle of growth, the shaman would suspend them on low hanging branches of the pine

feature to dry out. They also prepared them by placing them in a sock and hanging them over their fireplace to dry. Now this tale is becoming all too familiar!

Santa’s a Fun-gi, His Outfit Says It All

with Fly Agarics, without any practical explanation!

Christmas Mashup By now you can glean how this Christmas mashup we know today occurred.

When the shaman went out to gather the mushrooms, they’d wear a red outfit with either white trim or white dots, honouring the spirit of the mushroom which sustained them. At that time of year, the whole region was normally covered with deep snow and everyone, including shaman, wore tall reindeer skin boots that became black from snow exposure.

The shaman and the reindeer collected the ‘shrooms in a sack, thanks to the nature sprites — elves — working tirelessly all year to create them. They then decorated the pine tree with them, or hung them in socks over fires, took a psychedelic flight to the North Star or the North Pole, collected the gifts of wisdom for the villagers, returned from their trip to give the gifts to the people.

Collecting the tree-dried Fly Agarics and some reindeer urine in a large sack, the shaman returned to his yurt, the traditional form of housing for people in the region, where other elders of the village awaited, to join in the Winter Solstice ceremony.

These traditions were carried down into Great Britain by the ancient Druids, whose spiritual practices took on elements of their ancient origins. Then, as is the way with oration, stories change over time and take on cultural influences. These included Germanic and Nordic myths involving Wotan, the most powerful Germanic god and Odin, his Nordic equal, riding on an eight-legged horse to Hel - the afterlife. Hence the term ‘to Hel and back’, a spiritual death and rebirth.

The yurt door was blocked by several feet of snow, so entry was gained by climbing up to the roof with his sack of gifts, entering the hole in the centre of the roof functioning as a chimney. He would then slide down the central pole above the fireplace, holding up the yurt. Then the ‘shrooms from the sack and socks were shared amongst the guests.

Millennia later, all the way up to Victorian English times, the traditional symbol of the chimney sweep was a Fly Agaric mushroom.

The exertion made the eight-legged horse spit flecks of red and white blood or foam from its mouth upon the ground, where the next year Fly Agaric would appear. Over time, the European horse legend, united with the Siberian reindeer legend, melding into eight prancing and flying reindeer.

Christianity stepped in, ridding the world of the Pagan heathens. However, not before taking their mythos and making the Bible familiar enough to people to accept, by adopting elements of the Pagan traditions. Pope Julius I, in office 337-352AD, officially set Jesus’s birthdate as 25th Dec. These stories, having reached the New World with the early English settlers, mixed with Dutch tradition, involved the Greek St. Nicholas, then Clement Clark Moore’s poem ‘A Visit from St. Nicholas’, followed by Union propaganda and, finally, the 1920/30s Coca-Cola advertising campaign, gave Santa his own personality.

And so, this is Christmas… may your Solar Procession be filled with cheer and abundance of all good things.

Sacred Journey of the Heart

With my heart pounding from the depth of my soul, I arrived in the USA filled with anticipation, excitement and a beautiful relief. The guidance that had been compelling me, even more strongly over the last year, was leading me exactly where I needed to be. Locked away for so long afraid of being hurt, my now wide-open heart charged forward with conviction.

With an undeniable and compulsory force it ran towards pure authentic love and the magnitude of experiencing truly living with an open heart!

I was absolutely in the moment of safe and authentically pure love and audaciously revelling in every single minute. Fears, doubts, resentment and anger swirled around me, attempting to claw at my open heart and deny me the experience. Yet the potency of loving intention was far greater! The whole-hearted belief that we all deserved to deeply feel love in this lifetime and to share it with others, allowed me to safely stay exactly where the universe had conspired, despite all obstacles, for me to authentically BE. In the simplicity of the moment, I basked in every heartfelt sunset for days.

The true test on this trip, a metaphorical journey of life, was could I stay within this authentic loving heart space.

Part II

“I prayed that I would have the strength to remain within the connection of my heart.”

Could I watch a sunset in the sweetest solitude of my own heart as well as gaze into it in authenticity with others? Would I let the undeniable forces of fear sacrificially forsake me or those around me, of the infinite potential of pure love?

I prayed that I would have the strength to remain within the connection of my heart.

Those undeniable forces broke through and past fear and unworthiness grasped my throat again, suppressing my expression and obstructing my

feature flight path as I boarded the plane watching a bittersweet sunrise as golden tears of insight, regret and reverence silently fell.

Landing in New Orleans, filled with love and aching to express it through the angst, I met up with Peta and her friend Sarah. Hanging between fear and love, connection and oppression, I delved into the lost nights of a transient place fluctuating between audacious self-expression and complete escapism.

Heading to Dallas, I came up for air gasping through a five-hour delay at the airport. Suffocating emotions heavy on my chest, completely exhausted, yet full of excitement Peta and I eventually landed and met Ange. Aching with emotion however, joyous in finally uniting the trio, we sipped champagne and toasted, in inspired celebration; the beginning of another unified journey we were so ready to share.

The next morning, however, I was in turmoil as the wounding indignation of my ex-husband’s messages hit me full force.

The gravity of our separation, and the anger and sorrow completely took over. Would I ever have his support again?

The confusion swirled amongst the angst; did I ever fully have it, could we support each other moving forward through our wounding?

I was unwavering in my desire to keep the love we had shared in my heart. So

hopeful we could forge a new relationship through loving friendship. I had been so determined that we could do things differently through our separation and be an inspiration, not only to others, yet most importantly to our children.

For a moment, it was all shattered by his understandable, yet crashing tsunami of pain I felt engulf me across the continent.

Awash with fear again, I spent two days in Dallas trying to swallow it, until we arrived in Fort Worth. While meditating there I received a gracious message; ‘let it all go. It wasn’t mine alone to carry, breathe it out to the Universe and let go of fear, cut wounded chords and stop doubting myself or my choices. Choose heartopening connections, without fear or judgement, not control or security, every step going forward. We had been hurting for so long, we both deserved to forgive and love ourselves and share our hearts’.

Leaving Fort Worth, I was determined to keep the love in my heart and be the change I wanted to inspire through our separation and trust in the knowing that I had an abundance of loving assistance around me. One day we would have a beautiful evolution of our relationship.

I had a deep reverence for the shared support of our children and an unwavering faith that we would all grow exponentially through this transition.

We headed out full of anticipation, although I had barely had the space to touch the surface of the depths of emotion this transition was exposing. I drove five and half hours, unravelling all that unveiled within me, until we arrived ready to climb Enchanted Rock in Texas.

I went ahead alone, anxiety creeping into my chest about being on my own in life. With each step and each tear that

fell, I vowed I would be strong enough to support myself and my children. Despite being on my own, I wanted to love and be loved, yet not in need. I felt so much love and support and, as the tears flowed from depths of my ocean of grief.

I reached the summit surrendering within a beautiful oasis. Lying beside a triangular shaped body of water surrounded by flowers, as butterflies emerged; I felt the feminine energy of empowerment and the loving support of all the amazing women I knew. I sobbed tears of gratitude, as I sat by the water knowing that we were all supported.

Joined by the others, we received a beautiful message of shedding fear and self-doubt and learning to trust and ask for what we desired as we descended the powerful rock as the sunset mirrored the glowing embers of our lit up hearts.

The next day we took a long drive into New Mexico, pulling into Guadalupe Mountain, a site of pure love,

joy and connection. We sat at the base of the mountain meditating under the burning orange rays of another sun set as love met in our hearts and we were told to TRUST. Trust in loving unions, share how we truly FEEL and know that we deserved to love and be loved wholly and intentionally. To let go of any past suffering, as it was time to give and receive – pure authentic love in every moment. To ripple that energy out to others, allowing them to feel safe enough to trust in love too, fulfilling part of our mission for loving ascension.

Filled with love and joy, we headed to Roswell, New Mexico. As we lay down in a field together, we felt the energies of guides around us that were to pull out wounding that we no longer needed to carry. I felt both a sword through my heart around the fear of rejection and the restriction around my throat that had shut me down when I needed to speak up being removed. Ange and Peta experienced similar feelings.

We left Roswell feeling lighter, heading to Santa Fe for two days rest in a place of self-acceptance.

After recharging, we headed to the Pueblo area of Taos. It was a place of pure worthiness, trusting deeply, opening to love and releasing any shame, regret or self-judgement.

Navajo, Apache and Pueblo chiefs initiated us, entrusting us to radiate love and live authentically and inspirationally as Wayshowers. We crossed the

feature border into Colorado, stopping in Evergreen. By the river we received a message to keep our hearts open and evergreen with love, using the mantra; I love myself and I am so worthy of love and loving others.

The drive from Denver to Devils Tower, Wyoming, was seven hours full of introspection.

We arrived at sunset and my heart ached in bittersweet reverence yet there was an overwhelming vibrational energy in a portal of interplanetary love and connection. I cried, feeling the energy and intense message WE ARE ALL ONE AND ALL PURE LOVE. Love every single being that you can!

The sun rose to a glorious morning as we headed across Wyoming to Bighorn Medicine Wheel, where the mountains were still capped with snow. As we walked up to the Medicine Wheel and I felt the intense energy of the Hopi Indians. I saw myself riding free on horseback with my arms outstretched. I heard ‘Free yourself, let it all go, let go of cold hearts, your heart

We received complete clearance in our hearts of any past heartache, along with a cleansing for all of humanity. It was a reset for a higher frequency of love and ascension, only LOVE would SURVIVE – hate and fear had no place.

LOVE doesn’t hurt and it shone through another glorious sunset as we left. Yet fear attempted to creep in as we drove with clouds descending around us and lightning striking in every direction. Thunder echoed as darkness took over and hail pounded the windows so hard we could barely see. We were told to keep going, trust and drive through the fear as we safely pulled into the small town of Gillette.

It was imperative that we continued without holding back, as our open hearts could light the way for so many others.

Our next visit was to the beautiful town of Cody, Wyoming where we met some amazing people.

We ventured into majestic Yellowstone for two days before driving to Bozeman, Montana for our last two nights together. We had again shared the depth of an experience like no other that had, not only deepening our bond; it had excavated a treasure of buried turmoil we no longer needed to carry. We had sobbed together from every crevice of our hearts. We had laughed so hard, our souls ached with reverence for the insights and experiences we had shared together and individually. Our hearts were full of love and gratitude as we parted ways.

I waved goodbye, feeling trepidation in my full heart, as

it will all be worth it, know “I felt the Universe going that. Know your worth, know had my back and your infinite worth and never doubt it again! EXPRESS that, like the tree, I ever YOURSELF TRUTHFULLY ALWAYS, would survive and you’ve come so far yet you have to be brave enough to thrive with love…” keep going and say how you

I continued my journey alone, with no set plans except to visit the last two sacred sites in Montana and Idaho. I needed to be completely on my own, to sit with the magnitude of supressed emotion and inner turmoil I had stuffed down, not only recently, for the entirety of my life... Yet my soul still ached for sunsets in pure loving connection.

Although there was peacefulness in being alone, my heart completely pounded in sufferance. It ached with a cavernous gaping hole, so vast I could barely stand to delve into it, yet I knew I had to. I had to see the absolute beauty through the despair of letting it surface, despite its strangulation.

I literally gripped my chest and throat as I sobbed for hours every day, driving through complete desolation and thunderous storms hailing out my unexpressed grief. I was finally alone, not supporting others, as the realisation of all I’d been through hit me as hard as the hailstones that pelted my windshield. Every day of my solo journey as I crawled through the fear, I made it through the storm lighter and completely full of gratitude in my heart. Gratitude for everything I had endured, experienced and sacrificed to be exactly where I was meant to be in this moment.

I reached the Sacred Native American Medicine Tree site as the sun shone golden light on the remains of the tree that had been so brutally chopped down. I leaned my weary back against it and felt so much love, support and courage as I basked under a solitary sunset.

I felt the Universe had my back and that, like the tree, I would survive and thrive with love and trust, no matter what was in store.

Across the border into Idaho to the Nimiipuu sacred site in Nez Perce National Park. I heard the natives say, ‘Come, rest your weary head on the mound, you are doing amazing work, keep

feel, you are so loved’. And yet I still couldn’t be brave as I chose to reach out to no one, driving in solitude with only memories playing through my music. Leaving a piece of my heart in Idaho, I crossed into Washington, basking again, in a beautiful sunset - physically alone.

Continuing on to Mt Rainier, sun on my face and wind in my hair, followed by the clouds, rain and tears, I spotted the top of the majestic mountain jutting up, alone, full of courageous energy. I cried, “Please fill my heart back up again. Please don’t let it shatter all my beautiful connections. I heard in reply, ‘It’s okay, it won’t. They are all still there. Every loving connection stays in your heart.

Stop searching, you are full and have everything you need, keep going! Through every storm there will be the glorious sun shining, an amazing sunset and on and on it will go and grow and so will you.

This was a place of strength,

I pulled up to my Airbnb. Fear and panic rose up in the dark and ominous neighbourhood where I was to spend my last night in America - alone. Despite the fear that tried to creep in again, I managed to sleep well. The last site to visit was Snoqualomie Falls and, as a kaleidoscope of connection rippled through the rainbow of the flowing waterfall I heard, ‘Fall, fall so hard your heart can’t take it, yet know that it can and always will. Remember you are a Wayshower for heart opening and love, keep going, keep falling. You will always get back up and find that rainbow at the bottom of the falls YOU ARE COMPLETELY LOVED AND FULL OF LOVE!’

My wide opened heart returned home with newfound wisdom, holding my babies tightly with pure love and a greater strength of conviction. I could, freely and authentically, take every step in life with a beautiful comfort and deep knowing that divine guidance, would always support me and surround me with loves’ depths.

I had so many more sunsets to bask in alone and in pure authentic loving connection and every new day would be an opportunity to experience LOVE as I continued on this utterly reverent life journey.

2024 With The Stars & Numbers

2023 – A Year in Review

As the year has raced past so quickly it’s been amazing and filled with so many phenomenal things going on, here at Supernal HQ, within Australia and globally. What a year 2023 has offered us!

We asked the Supernal team to share with us their thoughts on the year. These questions included: What are your top three choices for the covers this year and why? What were your top three features covered this year and why? What issue did you like best of all? What is your favourite column and why?

What are your top three choices for the covers this year and why?

We had six amazing covers in the last 12 months and all very different, and all designed by Christel Mathelot, and one by Aurelien Pumayana Floret. It was a close field too.

The Winner this year was Issue 41 – Averting an Atlantis Replay.

This cover was the brainchild of Aurelien Pumayana Floret.

I feel you beside me, your energy stronger than when your body held it, the veil seems frail between us and I have never missed you.

My questions are answered by your wisdom, as if you were here, your candour signalling your presence in this reality.

I feel your voice in my field, in every particle that is me I feel your communication, reminding me of who I am, the divinity you see in me.

You still arrive at my hypnogogic gateway, as I am settling to sleep, just as you did when your body held your energy and you were in your home and I in mine.

When I wrote Part I of this article, I was transported back to the timeline I shared with Nanna, while she was still in her physical body and training me to work with the rock and water people. I have heard some of her students talk about missing her at her passing from this reality and I thought that I too would miss her physical presence. However, the truth is, I have never been separated from her; she has always been available to me. I wrote in Part 1 that Nanna opened me up to see and know this world in a way I never had before I met her. Perhaps this is why I have never felt separated from her.

“She said that spirit, the ancestors, the Earth and God didn’t need a specific language to understand our prayers…”

Back in the past with Nanna, I began to relive the experience. She was sitting in her wheelchair, eyes shut, making the sound of the didgeridoo with her voice as she took me into a trance-like state. She was guiding me into the Earth, into the realm of the rock people. She told me that I never needed to fear the rock people; they are her people, her clan.

I found myself in a large cave, surrounded by huge granite rocks and with the sound of gently flowing water from a stream nearby. This cave is familiar to me; I have been here many times as the entrance point to middle Earth where Nanna led me. I greeted the spirit of the cave and the rock people; just as she taught me and I felt at peace.

I was welcome to stay or pass through. Nanna taught me how to acknowledge country, spirit and ancestors in English. She said that spirit, the ancestors, the Earth and God didn’t need a specific language to understand our prayers, appreciation or requests.

“Humans in pain complicate everything. The ancestors look into your heart, God looks into your heart, the Earth looks into your heart. There is no need for words, actually.” Nanna’s words.

Sitting in the cave, the past felt like the present moment, with no separation of time. I was pulled through the cave into a winding and descending passage just as I was five years ago. As I descended, I felt Nanna with me, everything just as it was the first night I entered that cave. Earthy smells enveloped my olfactory sense as my journey downward escalated. I began to hear voices; they sounded like children and I knew where I was.

There was a gentle waterfall in front of me. I recognised it and I knew that behind it was a reptilian nursery. When I came here a few years ago, Nanna had asked me to do some work with her during my sleep time. At these training sessions, I would be in a hypnogogic state; that place between sleep and being awake. The perfect state to launch into other realms or dimensions, as one still has conscious control over mind and body. Control in this state comes with training and the first step for travelling or communicating with others, is to learn how to keep safe from unwanted interference.

As I stood at the waterfall, I remembered a juvenile reptilian stopping me from going any further inside the nursery. He caught hold of

“…we can connect with them to heal and free humanity and our beloved Earth.” and human relationship. This topic needs a whole column, perhaps even a book of its own, suffice to say, not all reptilians or other planet beings are here to destroy humanity.

Many are working for us and we can connect with them to heal and free humanity and our beloved Earth. We live in worlds within worlds within worlds. We are not the mono-dimensional beings we have been programmed to believe, only focused on the external realm and that which we can secure for ourselves in this heavily materialist world, created by humans to benefit Big Corporations. Consumerism has been mandated through the constant programming of our minds. my leg and, even for his small size, he seemed to have great strength, as I was not able to move.

“Please don’t go any further, he will kill you if he discovers you.”

The young male cautioned me.

“Why are you protecting me?”

I asked.

“Not all my people want to harm humans. You must find your elder and tell her to speak with you of what she knows about us. We know her and we work with her.” He dragged me back to the waterfall and I found myself back in my bed.

Nanna knew the nursery I described and proceeded with my lesson on reptilian

As Nanna explained during one of our training sessions, we constantly externalise and spend hardly any time in our inner world. We live in a trance, believing that we have little or no power over our lives. The way forward is to break ourselves free from the collective mind manipulation and reach for our inner wisdom and guidance.

“Many people in our culture only focus on making changes in the outer world. Well, of course we need to come up with plans for our life, but we need to balance out our rational planning with exploring our inner world and

learning how to cultivate a rich, peaceful, and powerful inner space. We need to move from outer visioning to the power of working with our inner visions.

There is so much I could write about my spiritual journey with this amazing elder who opened me up to the structural layers of the multiverse of which we are part. She reminded me to see me in everything I encountered and for that I am eternally grateful as that wisdom empowers me to make powerfully informed decisions every day. The pinnacle of success!

The formula to succeed, depends on the formulation of your individual divine code. The pinnacle of success is plural rather than singular, coming not just with the greatest highs, instead most often during or following a very low.

Successes are many, varied and often unrealised, literally staring you in the face and yet never seen.

Buddhist Response to Race and Racism Pt I

Our media and corporatocracy has been shoving down our throats the idea of pervasive racism, and pushing their policies for redress, like ‘The Voice’ referendum in Australia, Critical Race Theory in education and law, and so-called socially-engineered ‘diversity targets’, and so on. Are there ethical implications of race, acknowledging both personal and multifactorial determinants associated with racialisation?

Does conceptually viewing the world through a lens of race foster unwholesome states of suffering (dukkha), especially considering the inevitable unequal distribution of power and resources? I will explore how The Buddha viewed race and whether there is an appropriate Buddhist response to historical disadvantage.

I will apply a Buddhist outlook to contemporary ethical dilemmas of race, racism and racialisation, expounding upon Buddhist applied ethics consistent with ‘middle way’ consciousness.

Self-realisation, as the primary aim of Buddhist discourse, is not focused on political or social power. By emphasising procurement of equanimity by relinquishing sankhāras, self-realisation arrives by disentangling oneself from dukkha.

The five precepts codified within the Buddhist canon, outline Buddhist ahimsa and the prevention of immorality – these include abstention from inflicting harm and refraining from using either exploitative or abusive language.

Furthermore, the precepts promote the preservation of societal consonance and social harmony.

Buddhist scholarship has historically ignored race and ethnicity. The Buddha’s instruction (to Ānanda) outlines the Buddhist project of refinement in all respects – “Good conduct leads gradually up to the summit.”

This demonstrates the intertwinement of both morality and kindness along a path of attainment, culminating in

health and wellbeing nirvāna – in this construction, nirvāna is the ‘perfection’ of virtue. Nirvāna is the ultimate transformation of self into selflessness, framed within a tradition of dissolving suffering.

The Dīgha Nikāya describes paññā and sīla as “Washing one hand with another.” This demonstrates that wisdom and morality exist inseparably from one another.

Considering that human beings are imbued with the consciousness of ‘Buddhaself’, tied to ātman, lovingkindness and equanimity as moral factors of enlightenment is paramount. This sense of a moral code is highlighted within Dhammakāya as the structure of existence – requiring that dharma is expressed equally.

Buddha’s commentary on Brahman social privilege, social exclusion, prejudice and discrimination, highlights that a person can neither be judged on social status nor on birth, and must only be assessed on behaviour alone – Buddha Gotama is quoted as emphasising that one becomes a brahman through action not via birth. Furthermore, the Buddha highlights that animal species are differentiated by their markings, whereas human beings have no bodily ‘distinguishing marks made by nature’ – their designation is noted by ‘convention’ alone.

Buddha taught nonabiding or non-clinging as a way to relinquish suffering – encompassing racial categorisations too. The Buddha’s view on non-racism

is unambiguously outlined in ‘Sutta-Nipāta. “Among humans there is no difference produced by birth.” Regarding every disgusting feature of corporeal function, the teaching from Vijaya Sutta (1.11) – “Whoever would think, on the basis of a body like this, to exalt himself or disparage another,” contemporaneously admonishes any kind of racism or racist pride.

Critical Race pedagogy has emerged as controversial in the context of political competition against ‘white supremacy’ – as the battle against discrimination has been increasingly weaponised.

Whilst highlighting race or fomenting ‘reverse-racism’ is on the surface antithetical to Buddhist values and arguably initialises more dukkha, a ‘middle way’ approach is justified – especially considering any exploitation requires redress and compassion toward its victims.

The currency of victimhood fails to engender self-realisation by preventing the purification

of unwholesome mental states, and taking personal accountability, instead incentivising a victim mentality.

The pitfalls of attempting to ‘manufacture’ equity, accentuate ‘victimhood’ and unintended consequences of social engineering, are misaligned with a sustained Buddhist ethic–premised solely on the five precepts tied to mahakaruna–acknowledging the manifold causes and conditions implicit in all existences.

At a humanistic level, Buddhist-dharma pivots toward compassion. It’s incumbent upon practitioners to root out unconscious racism and prejudice from their hearts at every level, and heal from ‘separation consciousness’ and any sense of ‘otherness’.

Buddha’s humanitarian message focuses on suffering at its core, and its cessation not only disregarding race and ethnicity; highlighting that only actions are what count. The idea that The Buddha stood for ‘equality of outcome’ negates Buddhist-dharma, especially considering the centrality of karma. Rather, self-realisation is the most pressing matter to the Buddhist practitioner.

Through the lens of all have equal opportunity for spiritual advancement.

Crazy Like Cut SnakeS

By Olivia Sinco “Try and catch some of her magic.” It was one of the stranger statements I’d hear on my first day in a new job and after a week or so at the school, I came to realise this was no ordinary workplace.

My new supervisor was referring to one of her assistants and how I should watch the unique approach she takes when working with students with additional needs. As we head into the season of thinking about, searching for and splurging on gifts, a lesson learned this year leads me to believe that my own happiness might just be the greatest gift I ever give my family.

There’s a common saying that “We are the sum of the five people that we spend most of our time with,” and we sometimes spend more time with our workmates than our partner and family. Spending my working day with people I respect benefits every aspect

of life, including who I am when I return to my family each night. This fact wasn’t always so obvious to me.

Rewind four years when I distributed a copy of my resume to my favourite 10 local schools, and that afternoon I had a new job. Education Support Departments are most often overseen by a co-ordinator, this is our line supervisor. Developing a relationship with the principal and assistant principal is important as well because the co-ordinator and Principals work very closely to address all things associated with students with additional needs. Never in my life had I experienced a school that worked as well as this one - the one that had hired me instantly.

Teaching and support staff like myself worked together without the usual hint of hierarchy and the principal had an open-door policy, of being pro-active,

hence issues were dealt with almost straight away. Parents, carers and grandparents were considered equal members of the team and as a result, students were thriving. I heard on more than one occasion that treating professionals were recommending the school for families with children who had a disability. I was super-satisfied with work and therefore the rest of my life was flowing. Then Covid happened.

Changes weren’t obvious straight away, yet soon enough, everyday there were things being imposed on staff, parents and students that were in direct opposition to my values. There had been a shift in focus in the school’s principles – decided solely from those in power and although it was meant to seem that the school was simply being

improved, it grew increasingly obvious that funding and the control of spending was the real focus.

Families with our target students were leaving every week, and after 14 staff had left, I found myself in a heated argument with leadership as I stood my ground on what I believed was right. I didn’t realise I had been giving in a little bit each day to the new expectations, directives and actions of leadership and life had become very difficult indeed.

Those of us left would often be finding quiet safe spaces to cry and comfort each other, we were grieving what was, and raging at the despicable treatment of the school community, not to mention

the illegal things that were happening that many of us felt powerless to combat.

My own confidence had broken down so much I doubted whether I would be able to get another job and felt trapped, as did many other staff . Once I took a leap of faith to follow my instincts, leave, apply for another position elsewhere and land in the realm of ‘magic’ I felt like a different person.

Directly or not, our quality-oflife affects our children deeply.

However, far too often in literature and social media, parenting advice puts children at the centre of our universe and coaches us to address their life as if it were separate to ours, encouraging focus on their happiness. Children join our lives, not the other way around!

Family life is a holistic set up, we need to be able to reserve enough time and energy to attend to what’s best in our own lives and seeking out that right place of employment has huge value. Children benefit from parents in good moods in the short term, in the long term we learn things about life that we can teach them too.

This week, I was in the cooking room supporting 13-year-olds to make cupcakes and the teacher relayed how earlier in the week the wind had caused her students to go “crazy like cut snakes.” Lucky are these students who have someone adapting to their needs, lucky am I to be a part of this supportive environment.

Reflections

Memories & Refl fle ections of Christmas Past!

By Jane Offer Time flies when you are having fun they say. Certainly, this year has not been fun for many people, yet we seem to be heading towards Christmas at a rate of knots!

Christmas, for me as a child, was a balance of excitement and stress. The prospect of Christmas morning with new toys to play with, and then the daunting thought of joining the dynamics of a fractured family for afternoon tea. One counterbalanced the other, yet Christmas still holds an element of magic, particularly the trappings of the event.

Recently, as decorations began hitting the stores, I reflected on my most impactful memories. Three push forward immediately. The joy of seeing a huge Christmas tree, brilliant with lights and glittering baubles has never left me, even though it does not reflect the somewhat battered

artificial tree decked with homemade trinkets that were dragged out every year.

Robins! Those cute, fluffy little creatures that decorated every Christmas card, often bringing messages from those that were sorely missed. And finally, as I grew older, Mistletoe came into the equation, reflecting a symbol of potential romance.

Who would get to kiss under it this year?

So, why these particular symbols? Love them I may, yet what about their true origins?

It’s an area worth looking into.

The Christmas tree was obvious, or so I thought. We were taught the person who introduced this tradition to England was Albert, Queen Victoria’s Prince Consort. Wrong! It was actually Queen Charlotte, German wife of George III, who introduced the first known tree at Queen’s

Lodge, Windsor, in December 1800. Eventually, in the mid to late 1800’s, Christmas trees came to Australia, introduced by homesick European settlers who longed for the traditions of their homelands.

Another puzzle is why the robin is depicted on Christmas cards. True, they are distinctive; however, they are not fluffy and definitely not cute in nature.

They are immensely territorial and will kill any other male robin who dares to stray into their domain!

Apparently, in England the first Christmas card was designed by illustrator John Horsley and sent in 1843 by Sir Henry Cole, a British civil servant. The first designs showed post-boxes or the postmen themselves and as Royal Mail postmen wore bright red uniforms, their nickname was ‘robin’ or ‘redbreast’.

As a result, the familiar brown and red bird evolved as the archetype Christmas symbol, a popular trend which continues to this day.

Sir Henry Parkes, an Australian statesman and politician, is believed to have sent the first Australian Christmas card in the 1880’s. Despite Christmas falling in the height of the Australian summer, cards continued to feature imagery of winter scenes, including robins.

Finally, we come to Mistletoe.

This plant is semi-parasitic, growing almost exclusively in trees. It finds its home through the courtesy of birds and, as the seed grows, the plant attaches itself to the ‘host’ tree,

stealing the water and essential nutrients that it needs to survive.

There is a story embedded in Norse mythology, where the plant was considered a sign of love and peace. It tells of the goddess Figg, losing her son Baldur to an arrow made of mistletoe wood. After his death, she vowed that Mistletoe would kiss anyone who passed beneath, so long as it was never again used as a weapon. The tradition of mistletoe migrated to England where The Druids used it in their ceremonies as the sacred symbol of vivacity and fertility, as it blooms in the trees during the harsh winters.

A New Earth – Now

The Peaceful Warrior Rises

Ultimately, we’re finding ways to be ourselves and stand in our own identity, while being able to relate harmoniously with others standing in theirs.

Martial Heat In light, the warrior energy of Aries and its ruler Mars, is dignified and benevolent as it asserts for truth and justice.

In shadow, Aries can be full of battle-lust to achieve a ‘me’ and ‘mine’ agenda.

In the window between July 2023 and January 2025, we’re expanding our healthy sense of self identity as the North Node moves through Aries. In the same period, as the South Node transits Libra, we release where we might have been overly focused on interpersonal harmony.

The karmic Nodes of the Moon shift into a new sign axis every 18 months or so. This develops us in the future-oriented energy of the North Node, as we release the out dated expression of its counterpart South Node sign.

The Aries and Libra axis reflects the self and its projection out into the world, and the adjustments we make in facing and relating to others. This is the ‘me’ and ‘we’ axis, so our approach to relatedness is changing through this timeframe on both personal levels and in collectives between groups and countries.

While the North Node is a positive energy, expanding what it touches, in Aries this can manifest as heightened aggression and lack of willingness to compromise.

Well, I must admit that after writing the ‘Origins of Christmas’ feature article, I was left scratching my head in wonder about which site to write my column about… and then I remembered! A perfect and unique site; Le Village de La Madeleine, located in the Vézère valley, in the Dordogne, France.

This site hasn’t been open to the public for all that long, so my partner Christian and I were fortunate to be able to visit on our recent trip. What makes this site so unique is that it has evidence of being inhabited for 17000 years, and over that time has evolved with the turning of the ages.

The introduction of other local and foreign cultures changed the place, at times quite markedly over the centuries. This is very much likened to what happened to the Christmas Mythology, only rather than being an oratory tradition and later in pictures, here at Le Village de La Madeleine we experience the same kind of mash up, however it is in physicality, through the striking changes that occur in architecture.

Starting from the 17000 year old Madeleine rock shelter open caves, to Troglodyte, then Roman times (125BC) then through Medieval times 814AD a population settled into this well protected nook of the world. During 12th century its fortifications were added,

though little remains today, it is evident what a secure area it was to reside. By the15th Century a part Troglodyte part Gothic church was built.

It was an engineering and architectural masterpiece in its time, due to it being suspended on the edge of a cliff face and I must say there was a small feeling of trepidation as I set foot into it!

At this time also, a chateau was built and a number of houses, of which only ruins survive today.

The inhabitants abandoned the site some years later with the growing popularity of the gas engine and the development of the railway, however people later returned, preferring to follow a life of age-old tradition.

Eventually in the early 20th century the village was totally abandoned and in 1979 it became a UNESCO world heritage site and more recently a tourist attraction. This in its entirety creates a highly unusual landscape to traverse, full of oddities and surprises.

In 1911 a workman drove a pick axe into the wall of one of the caves discovering a burial site that sparked great interest in this location. The skeleton of a young Magdalenian Girl wearing exquisite shell jewellery was unearthed.

The evidence of prehistoric human inhabitation was found at the base of the cliff face, overlooking the Vézère Valley.

Here in this idyllic location, surrounded by nature, forest and flowing river, bathed in sunshine begins its story with the evolution of Cro-Magnon Man, who gave the ‘Mag’ to the Magdalenian culture.

This entirely new period was able to be distinguished, due to the 500 plus artworks and artefacts, particularly stone and bone tools that were found here. Much of this art is on display at the Musée National

de Préhistoire, Les Eyzies-deTayac and the remainder has been shared amongst around 50 more museums.

Two of the most important prehistoric carvings are; a carving of a Bison licking an Insect bite, which is carved on an antler and is located in the afore mentioned museum, the other is a perforated baton with a horse engraved in low-relief, this can be seen at the British Museum.

The Magdalenian people were semi-nomadic, inhabiting this place for parts of the year and then moving to other locations with the seasons. Now, don’t be fooled into thinking that because these people were nomadic, that they didn’t have a complex social system and lifestyle. In fact their predecessors did too, leaving a series of markings in their cave art which is so complex that still today modern artists are unable to paint with such skill. Until recently people have only been able to begin to hypothesise about what they may be. We will explore this language system and their world famous art, dating back 21,000 years in a future column.

On the road to The Valley of the Prehistorique, with the Vézère as it’s a backdrop; the stream of canoes which peacefully meander by, it is a haven of peace, in a forest of beauty, its cup overflows with abundant rich culture and history, and leaves the visitor in awe!

Sacred Sites

All the Earth is Sacred

Throughout the ages, the universal belief that ‘all the Earth is sacred’ has resonated within many different belief systems and world views, emphasising the inherent interconnectedness and sanctity of the natural world.

This notion reminds us that our planet is not just a resource to exploit; it’s a living, breathing entity that deserves reverence and protection.

The Native Americans held this premise deeply rooted in spiritual traditions, exemplified in the words of Chief Seattle when he said, “The Earth does not belong to us; we belong to the Earth.” This simple yet

profound statement holds within it the right order of our relationship to the Earth as a living entity, to which we are intimately connected and not a commodity to be exploited.

Similarly, the Lakota concept of ‘Mitakuye Oyasin’, which means ‘All my Relations’, reflects the interconnectedness of all life forms, teaching that all beings are a part of the same sacred web of life deserving of respect and reverence.

Buddhism teaches the concept of interdependence, or ‘dependant origination’, which highlights the interconnected nature of existence. In Hinduism, the Earth is personified as ‘Bhumi Devi’, the goddess of the Earth, and the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ is a Sanskrit phrase which means ‘the world is one family’.

In the Western world, philosopher Martin Heidegger in his work The Question Concerning Technology, suggests that modern technology has reduced the Earth to a mere ‘standing reserve’, a resource to be ravaged. Also, in Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, she reminds us of the need to revere and protect the Earth’s beauty and diversity. She says, “The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction.”

It is time to reconnect to our ‘cosmic soul’.

It is time to honour the beauty reflected in every magnificent creation around us, to embody the spirit of unity the Earth so eloquently reveals to us in all her form and cycles.

Recognising the sacredness of the Earth can lead to spiritual growth and a deeper sense of connection to the world, promoting feelings of awe, gratitude and humility. This, in turn, leads us to becoming responsible stewards of the environment, motivating us to protect and preserve our planet and live harmoniously with nature. Our holistic wellbeing depends upon it.

Let us come to understand that the divine or sacred is not separate from the world.

It is intrinsic within it. Life and consciousness are inherent qualities in the Universe to which we are inextricably linked; therefore, it goes without saying that when we harm the Earth, we harm ourselves…

Practicing mindfulness and reverence for the Earth can help us connect with the sacredness of the world. Spend time in nature, contemplate

its beauty and access a deep sense of gratitude for the Earth’s gifts.

Adopting sustainable lifestyles and making eco-conscious choices can significantly reduce our ecological footprint. Reducing waste, conserving resources and using clean energy can support the environment.

Get involved in conservation efforts and habitat restoration projects. Whether it’s participating in local clean up events or supporting organisations dedicated to preserving natural areas, taking action can make a positive impact.

Advocate for policies that protect the environment and promote ecological sustainability. Educate yourself and others about the importance of preserving the Earth’s sacredness and the consequences of neglecting it. Join or form communities that share a commitment to environmental stewardship.

and attention toward that which we wish to create, rather than the extent of destruction in the world.

I think that in forgetting just how sacred WE are, how BLESSED we are, to have the opportunity to live life together on this immaculate planet of unsurpassed beauty, has led us to feel disempowered in changing situations that may ultimately bring about our demise.

In recognising our innate power and belonging as divine beings of Gaia, I think that we can have a massive impact on the state of affairs from this moment on. That by remembering our own divinity will bring divinity to the sacred Earth itself.

Beyond the common sense practicalities of leading responsible lives to preserve the natural world for posterity, I wish to remind you that, as a part of this Earth, we are uniquely designed to co-create within it.

Settle your awareness in your body, knowing that we are made up of the same stuff as all life in the Cosmos. Bring your consciousness to the immaculate gift of life itself and deliberately share your focus
