CLUB RACING AT SYC Firstly, I would like to thank all our skippers and crew who sailed in this 2018/19 Sailing Season. What a great, although short, season we had! As you all know the new season has commenced and we appreciate those who have taken on board the new changes and dates for the 2019/20 Sailing Season. The calendar has been a tricky one to get right, and we have worked tirelessly in the sailing office in finding extra racing across all divisions and taking on board suggestions made by our skippers. With these extra races over the sailing season we require the extra helping hands on race day to help with the support boat crew, laying marks and general race day duties. If you’re interested in helping our yacht club succeed and want the additional races to go forth, please give the sailing office a call to express your interest. We also have the Sydney to Gold Coast yacht race coming up at the end of July. We require support boat skippers, crew and radio room personal for this prestigious event. The hours can be long, late and exhausting but we all end up having a great time and are thankful for the experience that we have gone through in making this regatta continually succeed. I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank our handicap committee for the past and present seasons handicaps. It is not an easy task handicapping boats, with the added pressure from skippers in getting these handicaps right, they do a great job. If you could please take the time to thank Ian Ball, Chris Noyes and Brendan Mann for their efforts when you run into them next that would be much appreciated.
I again wanted to take this opportunity to reiterate and re-enforce all our skippers to use the RaceQs software. We have been using this amazing app for all our Special Events, Inshore Division, Offshore Division and Thursday Twilight race tracking. It allows skippers, friends and family to either stream live or replay the regatta. I do also recommend this as a fantastic coaching tool. It gives sailors a great insight into the decisions made out on the water and see whose tactics worked and who is sailing the better race. It’s not just good for experienced sailors but also for Junior Sailors. During practice, the junior sailors record their races using RaceQs. After uploading their data, they can easily connect a computer to the TV and watch their races together. RaceQs makes it easy to show the sailors what they did right, and where they can improve. The sailing office will happily help with any questions you have regarding RaceQs. Just a quick message to all our SYC Hollywell Bailment holders. If you could please send through any outstanding completed bailment agreement form/s and updated insurance documents when they expire that would be much appreciated. Please send this through to me at sailing.admin@southportyachtclub.com.au or hand a hard copy into the sailing office. Simon Couch (Simmo) Sailing Administrator
