Associate Committee Report
ASSOCIATES REPORT Carmel Nicholas President
We are saddened to report the recent passing of one of our loved and respected Past Presidents, Anne Vanderwyk. Anne was a member of the Club for 33 years and in that time joined the Associates Committee, eventually holding the position of Secretary and then stepping up to Committee President from 1993 to 1995. Thereafter she worked tirelessly for the Committee’s fundraising activities and was responsible for holding specific roles. Anne was very well regarded within the Club and by Committee members and she remained a guiding influence as the Committee evolved over the years, welcoming new members and being a dear friend to many others. Our condolences go to Anne’s family with the hope that this dear lady is now resting in peace after a long and extraordinary life.
We held our first function for the year on Friday 5 th April, which was a Fashion Auction Dinner hosted by Amy Stewart of Designer Wear Fashion Parades (DWFP). This is our second Fashion Auction Dinner with DWFP after wonderful feedback of last year’s event. Guests were greeted with a drink on arrival and enjoyed a delicious two course dinner. Amy’s beautiful models paraded on the catwalk and around the room for a closer peep. Very enthusiastic bidding followed each item on show with hilarious competition for the designer sunglasses. This has proven to be a great event with working women in mind - although all fashion enthusiasts are welcome - to take the opportunity to view some beautiful designer wear, relax and enjoy a fun evening. We presented a very successful raffle with prizes generously contributed by sponsors Mount Warning Tours, Chempro (a new sponsor), Hope Island Medi Spa and the Southport Yacht Club, with a Lucky Door $100 Voucher donated by DWFP to spend on the evening.
Our next event is an exciting “getaway” on Thursday 16 th May hosted by Mount Warning Tours. Leaving by bus from the Club at 9.00am, our intrepid trekkers will head off south, enjoying a morning tea along the way, followed by a rainforest cruise with drinks and lunch at House of Gabriel, then a Rum Distillery tour, and arriving back at the Club around 4.30pm.
Some dates to put into your calendar…………
Gala Ball on Saturday 20 th July. A perfect opportunity to dress up and shine with some of that Gold Coast Glamour! Five piece band ‘Radio Candy’ will provide the entertainment to keep you ‘tripping the light fantastic’ on the dance floor (now extended for greater enjoyment, courtesy of the Associates Committee). Guests will be greeted with a drink on arrival followed by Chef’s sumptuous three course dinner, topped off with a Cheese Platter and Port to complete your evening. There may be a theme for this event so please stay tuned ….
Spring Carnival Lunch on Friday 27 th September A lovely day of fashion and fun and is very popular each year. The event will feature a fashion parade by a local boutique, a drink on arrival followed by a delicious two course lunch. Melbourne Cup Day Lunch Tuesday 5 th November This event is hosted by the Associates Committee in the Compass Room and is guaranteed to be a fabulous day of great race coverage, fashions, sweeps and raffles, not to mention more of Chef’s enticing cuisine with a two course lunch.
We will be presenting a Christmas Mega Raffle again this year, to be launched in early September and drawn in December. It will feature an exciting Travel and Accommodation first prize donated by Zeppelin Travel and many other great prizes provided by our generous sponsors. We are always scouting for new sponsors for our raffles and would welcome interest from any local businesses. Sponsors receive ongoing recognition at all our events and raffles, as well as a quarter page advertisement in the Club’s quarterly magazine ‘iN SYnC’. All funds raised by the Associates Committee go to the Club to contribute to facilities at any of its venues, as well as supporting Youth Sailing. In the past two to three years, the Associates Committee has contributed $43,000 for the new Bali Hut and $50,000 towards the new pontoon at Dux. We are now aiming towards contributing around $50,000 towards a cover for the children’s playground at Main Beach. A lot of raffle tickets need to be sold to achieve this target so any prospective sponsors would be most welcome. Exciting prizes means great ticket sales!
To our loyal sponsors who donate wonderful prizes year after year – we thank you for your generosity and ongoing support. It means a great deal for our fundraising and ensures the continued quality of our raffles.
To any ladies out there who have some spare time and would like to become a member of the Associates Committee, we would love to meet you. You will enjoy great camaraderie and make new friends, as well as help with presenting our functions and selling our raffles. If you are interested, contact can be made through Reception at the Club.
We look forward to seeing old friends and new faces at our next events.
