Sailing Operations Manager Report

SAILING OPERATIONS MANAGER Simon Turpin

Welcome to our Winter edition of iN SYnC. With these Winter months upon us, most of our Sailing Divisions have started their Winter Series for our new 2019/2020 Sailing Season. I would like to thank you all for your patience and understanding this year with the official change of calendar dates for our Sailing Season. As you are aware, our new Sailing Calendar now starts in line with our Membership months, being May to April each year.

The 2018 / 2019 Sailing Season has been an amazing season for us at SYC. Our on water club participation numbers throughout our normal Club Racing series alone has seen an increase of over 15% to last Season!

To put this into perspective, an average of more than 175 people participated across our 6 Divisions each week. Add to this, our SYC Special Events, Sailing Academy and Corporate Sailing numbers which brings this average up to more then 320 people each week experiencing our wonderful sport of sailing at Southport Yacht Club each week – what an amazing result.

In the coming weeks, we are looking forward to celebrating all of your achievements with our Sailing Presentation evenings scheduled to be hosted at Main Beach and Hollywell in June. However please accept my sincere apologies, as this will be the first time I will not be attending these as I will be away on previously scheduled annual leave. Congratulations to all of our Series winners and Club Champions. Our Divisional Sailing meetings will also then take place for each of our six Divisions where new 2019 / 2020 Sailing Committee will then be formed accordingly.

From August 2 nd to 4 th we will be hosting the 2019 Australian Para Sailing Championships which we will be conducted from Hollywell and then on the 17 th & 18 th August,

we also have scheduled the 2019 International OK Dinghy Queensland Championships in our Offshore waters.

I would like to thank all of our Sailing Committee Members for their tireless work and passionate efforts throughout our 2018 / 2019 Sailing Season, it has been a privilege working with each of you and you have all represented your Divisions admirably.

Finally, thank you all for yet another wonderful season at Southport Yacht Club with your continued support and magnificent assistance. It’s an absolute privilege to be a part of our SYC Family and my team in the Sailing Office look forward to working with you throughout our new 2019 / 2020 Sailing Season.
