CRUISING AT SYC Hello Members,

Easter Cruise

Since the last edition of iN SYnC magazine we have had four scheduled cruises:

Wind and rain appears to be following the cruisers around this year however this did not stop 12 vessels and 24 people from meeting up at Paradise Point anchorage and proceeding to lunch at Manos Restaurant and Bar where we were very well fed and watered.

Australia Day Cruise Fifteen vessels and thirty people registered for the extended long weekend cruise as the tides were perfect for entering and leaving Days Gutter at the southern end of Moreton Island. We met up at Canaipa Pt for sundowners and bar b q before proceeding at 630 hours in beautiful conditions up the west coast of North Stradbroke and into Days Gutter via the Rous Channel. Lunch and drinks enjoyed by all at the Gutter Bar. After three calm nights in Days Gutter with drinks aboard Cavalino and Idle Time, we proceeded south again to Dux. Australia Day saw us ashore with sponsored drinks and a trivia session run by Dr Bob and Laurel which created plenty of hilarity. The following morning included breakfast and a treasure hunt before departing for home. The February cruise had to be cancelled due to inclement weather courtesy of Oma, which was unfortunate as we had five new cruising vessels registered. March Cruise. The March weekend cruise was scheduled for Millionaires Row however again weather intervened and we redirected to Dux. Nine vessels and nineteen people had two enjoyable evenings ashore hiding from driving rain.

POWER BOAT WHAT’S ON CRUISING EVENTS: Mooloolaba Cruise - June 6th - 12th June

The next morning we travelled in convoy to the Kangaroo Island / 5 Ways anchorage where we were sheltered from the at times gusty SE wind. Many thanks to Eddie and Candice for hosting us aboard Sovereign Lady as there is no beach there. The following day saw us travelling to Koureyabba anchorage in the Canaipa Passage. Again we were sheltered from the wind but not the rain. Attempted drinks ashore but we were summoned aboard Sovereign Lady which led to an hilarious night of stories and lies. Due to squals and wind it was decided to satay an extra night at Koureyabba and the hardy souls of the SYC Cruising Flotilla braved the threatening rain to have sundowners on the beach and welcome the Easter Bunny. Needless to say we all got drenched but no-one can call us soft !!!! Sunday morning dawned bright and sunny so the flotilla proceeded to Dux for Bar b q and drinks ashore. A memorable cruise for the hardy participants. There is no cruise scheduled for May but there will be for June, possibly to Mooloolaba. July 13th sees our end of year review. Details to follow in SYC E-news shortly.Happy and safe boating, Lloyd Abbot Cruising Committee
