I hope you had a wonderful summer filled with lots of good memories, laughter and time to recharge for the year ahead. This year, I am honored to serve our community as the Chair of the Regents Board of Directors. My husband Dan and I joined the Regents community in the Fall of 2010 when our daughter Katherine Grace entered kindergarten. Fast forward to last Spring when she presented her thesis and graduated with the Class of 2023. She will attend the University of Oklahoma in the fall on a D1 rowing scholarship. Our daughter Lauren will be a senior this year, and we are fortunate to get to experience all of the joys of senior year once again. I have had the privilege of serving in many roles at Regents including RPC Chair (2015-2016) and was appointed to the Board in 2018.
Below you will find the 2023-24 Regents Board of Directors, explain some of our processes, and invite you to attend our monthly board meetings.
The board is charged with preserving, upholding, and promoting the philosophy, goals, and mission of Regents. The board hires the Head of School, sets policies, and ensures that the school is operated and maintained in a financially responsible and healthy manner through budgeting and the strategic planning process.
There are five board-elected members and three community-elected members. The community-elected members serve staggered, three-year terms. The board-elected members serve renewable five-year terms. One of the five board-elected directors is on sabbatical in any given year. In addition to the eight voting members, the board annually selects several non-voting board members as part of our board development, onboarding, and training program. Non-voting members participate in all board training and meetings and are privy to all board communications. They serve renewable one-year terms.
The Board is always available to discuss matters with members of the community. However, we ask each member to abide by the following process prior to bringing matters of concern to the Board, which is based on Matthew 18:1516. If you have concerns about any aspect of the school, we encourage you to first reach out to the appropriate Faculty Member, Associate Head, or Division Head, and then to the Head of School prior to contacting the Board. This will en-
sure that your concerns are heard while giving them the opportunity to respond or resolve the matter, which promotes unity in the Spirit (Ephesians 4:1-6). For our comprehensive Grievance Policy, please see section 3.5 in The Standard. You can reach the board by email at board@regentsaustin. org or click the “Board of Directors” document in the Regents app to access board members’ contact information.
Board meetings are open to the public and are generally held on the first Thursday of every month. Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 10, at 5:00 p.m. in the Grammar Hall Conference Room. Board meeting dates, agendas, and minutes are available on the K-12 Parent Connection Resource Board when you log in to the Regents website.
Dr. Peterson and I will be hosting two Huddle with the Head meetings this year. We would love for you to attend to get to know us better and have a place to ask questions. These huddles will be on Tuesday, October 17, and Tuesday, February 6, in the Oak Room from 8-9:30 a.m.
You can always contact the board by emailing us at board@ regentsaustin.org or reaching out through our information in the Regents directory.
Grace and peace to you and your families as we commence another year in the life of Regents.
On behalf of the Regents Board of Directors,
Kelly Benzon ChairUniforms have been a part of Regents since our founding in 1992. Uniforms help create a true, good, and beautiful environment that reflects the beauty of God’s creation that is also taking place in our classrooms. Uniforms emphasize our commonality as image bearers of God and fight against the world’s desire to identify oneself by what we wear. Much thought and intention has been given over the years to the Regents Uniform Guidelines.
Please review the Regents Uniform Guidelines overview and the specific guidelines for each division, including clarifying language addressing questions we have received:
Grammar Uniforms
Logic Uniforms

Fine Arts seeks to cultivate students who love and create that which is beautiful. The aim is for every student to delight in the arts as a gift from God, to discern what makes art beautiful and of quality, and to deliver their creativity into the world as an act of service and joy.
Read more about the vision and values of the Fine Arts as well as the faculty who make it so special here.
This year, the Fine Arts faculty and staff will be considering the power of beauty, and how it shapes and inspires us. We know that beauty calls out to us, draws us to what is true and good, and ultimately points us to the Beautiful One. Together we’ll be considering how we can continue to bring beauty to our classrooms and events in a way that honors the image of God in our students and magnifies the person of Christ.
The Fine Arts department continues to work closely with RPC to provide fresh opportunities for parents to invest in the Fine Arts at Regents. Gretchen Andrew is serving as the RPC Fine Arts representative. Alongside the Fine Arts Director and Fine Arts Coordinator, she will be gathering parent support for help in the Fine Arts classrooms and at Fine Arts events. To find out more about the volunteer structure and how to lend your support, please email Beth Itskin at bitskin@ regentsaustin.org.
The Regents Co-Curricular program takes place after school and is an enrichment program designed to provide educational and performance opportunities for Regents students of all ages. These high quality courses or private lessons meet on a 10-14 week basis and are led by Regents teachers and professionals.
The Co-Curricular program offers academic and creative arts classes, as well as private music lessons.

The Regents Weekly Newsletter is your best source for upcoming dates, notifications, and events K-12. It’s sent via email every Thursday throughout the school year. Please read the newsletter regularly so you don’t miss vital information!
Our website is the most comprehensive source of school information. Find the Regents Current Parents page for frequently used resources. You can also log in to the parent portal using your BBID for extra information.
Check FACTS for attendance tracking, scheduling teacher conferences, health info and nurse’s office visits, tuition, athletics fees, and co-curricular fees. Parents are responsible for updating contact and medical information throughout the year, as necessary, and can do so under Web Forms. Contact information in the FACTS database is used for all teacher communications, to populate the school directory phone app, and for emergency notifications. Please be sure it is accurate.
Students in grades 7-12 have their own FACTS accounts, where they can check their own attendance, progress reports/report cards, and messages.
For questions regarding FACTS or problems with passwords, please contact IT Support (parentsupport@regentsaustin.org)
FACTS drives our emergency alert notification system. If an emergency occurs during school hours, text alerts are our first notification system. Email notifications will also be sent. Please add FACTS Parent Alert short code 31-706 to your saved contacts so you’ll recognize them as coming from Regents.
The phone app is updated monthly. Changes made in FACTS will reflect in the app via updates available at the beginning of each month.
The Regents Podcast is aimed to think about and equip how we practice that which is true, good, and beautiful in a 21st century context. This has literally given a microphone to our mission, allowing us to share with our community and beyond the amazing stories happening on our campus and help equip you as parents shepherding your children’s hearts. Listen to our recent interviews and subscribe here.
We use social media to share the great things going on at Regents with our community and with prospective families who want to learn more about us. We invite you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
All students at Regents have school Google accounts. Students in grades 5-6 have accounts with extremely limited access (Google Classroom, Drive, and Email); students in the School of Logic (7-8) have features slightly beyond those for Grammar school, and School of Rhetoric (9-12) have full school accounts. These are Google for Education accounts, and adhere to Google’s privacy policy. Only your students’ names and graduation years are provided to Google. Teachers use Google Classroom as a repository for assignments and resources, so students are never without the information they need to complete schoolwork, regardless of where they are.
Students in the Grammar School are prohibited from changing their passwords, so parents have full access at any time to their account information. Grammar and SOL email accounts are locked, and may only send or receive emails within the Regents domain.
Students in grades 7-12 use the Regents Student Wi-Fi network, which has limitations appropriate for students. Use of devices (phones, tablets, Chromebooks, laptops, and any other devices) during school hours is governed by policies set by the Head of Logic and Head of Rhetoric. Please read the technology policy in The Standard for more information. 5th, 6th, SOL and SOR have classroom sets of Chromebooks for student use as needed. For questions regarding Google, Gmail, Google Classroom, Google Calendar, or problems with passwords, please contact IT Support at parentsupport@regentsaustin.org. Students grades 5-8, and new students grades 9-12 will receive their login information from their teachers.
I hope you and your family are enjoying the summer. I am always grateful for the “lazy” days of summer and the much needed interruption it brings to our normally scheduled days. However, it is about this time that I also begin looking forward to all of the possibilities that the start of a new school year can bring. It is with that excitement, that I am looking forward to serving as the RPC Chair this year. I am grateful for this opportunity and beyond blessed to be able to serve alongside so many faithful families!
RPC is the community of Regents parents working together to promote the mission of Regents School of Austin, while supporting the various needs of the staff, students and families. When you registered your child to attend Regents, you automatically became a member of the Regents Parent Council We welcome each of you to get involved this year and look for opportunities to join in all of the exciting events on campus. Whether you volunteer to help at a Regents event, drive for a field trip, volunteer with your child’s class in the library or in the garden, or bring goodies to bless the faculty and staff, you are participating in the work of the Regents Parent Council. It is beautiful to see God’s hand at work daily within our school.
Preparations are underway for the 2023-2024 school year, and it is going to be an amazing year! I am thankful for the dedicated administration, board members, teachers, and parents who continue to pour love and dedication into Regents School of Austin.
Finally, I’d like to take a moment to share the scripture that I have chosen to guide me throughout this year. It is Romans 12:3-6.
“For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, … For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them:...”
I love this scripture because it reminds me that while we have each been gifted with different strengths and are capable of accomplishing tasks on our own, we are so much stronger when we pool our talents and work together! Having individuals use their diverse talents to support all of our activities unifies our community and I am already grateful for all that will be done in the coming months. I am looking forward to serving with each of you in the year ahead!

The safety and security of students, faculty, and staff have always been our top priority, and we continue to evaluate how we can improve. We are implementing increased security measures on the Regents campus this year, including:
• All doors to buildings on campus will be locked at all times and only accessible by security badge or being buzzed in by the receptionist desk.
☐ Any parent, volunteer, or visitor must check in at the Grammar building before proceeding to any other building on campus. You will receive a visitor’s badge that must be worn at all times while on campus.
☐ You will not be allowed to enter any academic building on campus without wearing a visitor’s badge and being buzzed in by the receptionist desk.
☐ Only those with security badges (faculty/staff and senior students) will be able to enter SOR through the front wooden doors. All parents, volunteers, and visitors must enter SOR through the glass doors on the right side for visibility purposes.
• Armed security
• Regular security audits by an independent firm to evaluate our security presence and procedures
• Regular Austin Police Department patrol visits
• A tip line to allow advanced warning for any potential threats on campus
• A new perimeter fence that was installed over the summer
• Implementation of The Standard Response Protocol for emergency management and crisis response
Your eyes and ears are critical to the safety of our campus. It is imperative that if you see something suspicious, on campus or online, please call 911 and contact us at security@regentsaustin.org or 512-5923505.
Please join us for a coffee with Collin Fallon, Chief of Security, on Wednesday, September 6, in the Grammar Hall Oak Room. If you have any questions about the security at Regents, you can reach out to Collin Fallon, Chief of Security.
