Annual Report 2022 | 2023

The mission of Regents School is to provide a classical and Christian education founded upon and informed by a Christian worldview, that equips students to know, love, and practice that which is true, good, and beautiful and challenges them to strive for excellence as they live purposefully and intelligently in the service of God and man.

regents community, It is the time of year to pause, reflect, and imagine. As we contemplate our past, present, and future, it is important to be reminded of God’s faithfulness that extends to each generation. As Head of School, I am in awe of the many ways God has blessed this school over the last three decades. This past year, we continued to advance accountability for academic excellence, fostered an enduring community, cultivated thought leadership within the classical Christian school movement, expanded service in the great Austin community, worked towards building needed campus facilities, and developed financial resources for long-term sustainability and affordability. Our annual report for the 2022-2023 school year outlines how we are stewarding the financial resources the school is blessed with. This report will give you a snapshot of key areas in our pursuit of excellence: · · · · · ·

The Regents Fund serves as an ongoing source of income for Regents School of Austin. Fund assets are invested, and each year a portion of the value of the fund is paid out to support the school’s mission. Any earnings in excess of this distribution are used to build the fund’s market value. In this way, the fund can grow and provide support for its designated purpose year after year. When gifts are made to The Regents Fund, a legacy of support is created for Regents School of Austin.

In Spring 2023, we announced our capital campaign, Momentum: From Foundation to Future. Momentum means we are moving forward, but contained within Momentum is the word moment. It calls us to look back on our history, remember, recognize, and plant our feet firmly on the solid foundation built by the families who came before us. There were many moments of generosity to get us to this point. It is now our moment to bless future generations. What we do over these next few years sets the trajectory of our school for the next 30 years. To learn more, visit regentsaustin.org/momentum

LESSONS FROM MOMENTUM Taking to the highways in his truck retrofitted with a cabin together with his standard poodle Charley riding tall in the passenger seat, John Steinbeck writes about touring the nation in his 1962 travelog, Travels with Charley. Having authored some of the greatest American novels, Steinbeck confesses he no longer knows his country which is problematic for an American writer, writing about America. To remedy this, he sets out on a 75 day road trip with Charley to meet the people of our nation. Momentum has blessed me with a Travels with Charley experience as sharing the vision for Regents future has taken me from wide eyed first-year parents to seasoned families who have been around for 20+ years. Having the unusual opportunity to sit with tons of families out of my own grade-level orbit, I have seen a great deal from our people. I have seen families wrestle with faith and honor. Often I have been asked about the tension between pledging an amount that can be confidently honored and pledging an amount that requires trusting God. This is a beautiful tension that cannot be answered for the family. These are my favorite conversations as they are resolved only by prayer. I have met with families whose perspective on God given resources (finances, time, and abilities) are so soaked with scripture and conviction, that I have left longing to know God more deeply. I have been brought near to families who built our traditions and practices and others who have been drawn to Regents because of them. They are different generations sharing a common faith. Even as I recall these conversations, I see their faces. While I have been encouraged by our generosity, I have been amazed by our people.

OUR DEVELOPMENT PHILOSOPHY Regents School of Austin is an independent school, meaning that the school selects or designs all of its curricula and programs, operates independent of financial support from the federal, state, or local government, and is governed by its own Board of Trustees. Unlike public schools which are funded by tax dollars, independent schools rely solely upon tuition fees, endowment income, year-round needbased giving, and proceeds from fundraising to meet the operating expenses. Regents has a responsibility to its community to advance the mission of the school. The development office helps to facilitate this process by serving as good stewards of the gifts entrusted to us given throughout the year as well as gifts given through fundraising events. All records of gifts are kept highly confidential. While the board and founders recognize the tremendous sacrifice of each and every gift, public recognition of gifts is not made in order to protect and preserve the mission and purpose of the school.

“For all things come f rom you, and of your own have we given you.” 1 Chronicles 29:14

2022-2023 DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES

Friends of Regents 2022 PURPOSE:

Friends of Regents serves a unique purpose in allowing families to donate to one place and bless all of the faculty and staff at Christmas time in an equitable way. The offering collected from our community is equally shared among all employees. In 2022, an unprecedented amount was raised, so two gifts were given to bless our faculty and staff. GROSS REVENUE:

$100,624.94

Regents Cup 2023 PURPOSE:

$119,780.90
