Regents Board of Directors

Dear Regents Community,

I hope you had a wonderful summer filled with lots of good memories, laughter and time to recharge for the year ahead. This year, I am honored to serve our community as the Chair of the Regents Board of Directors. My husband Dan and I joined the Regents community in the Fall of 2010 when our daughter Katherine Grace entered kindergarten. Fast forward to last Spring when she presented her thesis and graduated with the Class of 2023. She will attend the University of Oklahoma in the fall on a D1 rowing scholarship. Our daughter Lauren will be a senior this year, and we are fortunate to get to experience all of the joys of senior year once again. I have had the privilege of serving in many roles at Regents including RPC Chair (2015-2016) and was appointed to the Board in 2018.

Below you will find the 2023-24 Regents Board of Directors, explain some of our processes, and invite you to attend our monthly board meetings.

Board Responsibilities and Structure

The board is charged with preserving, upholding, and promoting the philosophy, goals, and mission of Regents. The board hires the Head of School, sets policies, and ensures that the school is operated and maintained in a financially responsible and healthy manner through budgeting and the strategic planning process.

There are five board-elected members and three community-elected members. The community-elected members serve staggered, three-year terms. The board-elected members serve renewable five-year terms. One of the five board-elected directors is on sabbatical in any given year. In addition to the eight voting members, the board annually selects several non-voting board members as part of our board development, onboarding, and training program. Non-voting members participate in all board training and meetings and are privy to all board communications. They serve renewable one-year terms.

Conflict Resolution

The Board is always available to discuss matters with members of the community. However, we ask each member to abide by the following process prior to bringing matters of concern to the Board, which is based on Matthew 18:1516. If you have concerns about any aspect of the school, we encourage you to first reach out to the appropriate Faculty Member, Associate Head, or Division Head, and then to the Head of School prior to contacting the Board. This will en- sure that your concerns are heard while giving them the opportunity to respond or resolve the matter, which promotes unity in the Spirit (Ephesians 4:1-6). For our comprehensive Grievance Policy, please see section 3.5 in The Standard. You can reach the board by email at board@regentsaustin. org or click the “Board of Directors” document in the Regents app to access board members’ contact information.

Board Meetings

Board meetings are open to the public and are generally held on the first Thursday of every month. Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 10, at 5:00 p.m. in the Grammar Hall Conference Room. Board meeting dates, agendas, and minutes are available on the K-12 Parent Connection Resource Board when you log in to the Regents website.

Huddle with the Head

Dr. Peterson and I will be hosting two Huddle with the Head meetings this year. We would love for you to attend to get to know us better and have a place to ask questions. These huddles will be on Tuesday, October 17, and Tuesday, February 6, in the Oak Room from 8-9:30 a.m.

You can always contact the board by emailing us at board@ regentsaustin.org or reaching out through our information in the Regents directory.

Grace and peace to you and your families as we commence another year in the life of Regents.

On behalf of the Regents Board of Directors,

Kelly Benzon Chair
