Global Culture Fair The Global Culture fair celebrates the many cultures we have present at Birkerød Gymnasium, allowing the STX, HF, staff and other IB students to appreciate the vast diversity we are so proud of.

O
n Tuesday, November 5th, pre-IB and the 2u class prepared and organised this year’s global culture fair, portraying every nationality we have here at the school. With over 50 countries and over 200 students organising, the school was thriving with life, energy, colours, and the aroma of many cultural foods. To begin the day, the morning meeting was concluded with a Culture Fashion show, where we had 32 nations showing off their beautiful traditional gowns, suits, and headwear. For example, Pakistan’s models wore gorgeous Pakistani dresses called shalwar kameez; vibrant, eye-catching and glittering in the light. Pakistan – like every other country who walked on the runway – received a joyous round of applause. We have students from 50 countries around the globe! After the catwalk, all first-year students from STX went to Samlingssalen to enjoy the sound of Spanish, Mexican, Egyptian and Brazilian music, the fragrance of Asian spices, Middle Eastern herbs and European desserts, as well

as the many different languages being taught to curious students, emerged in the cultures that they knew little about. Marie and Cecilie from 1g said, “At every stand, I learnt something new” and “The food is fantastic! I didn’t taste anything I disliked.” Every year, after hours of tedious preparation and planning, each nation creates an in-depth and exciting image of what their home nation is like, along with a new country that has never been found among the BG students. This year, countries like Bermuda and Palestine made an appearance among the stands, drawing in students who were thirsty for knowledge, and desperate to engage in the vastness of culture which the students embrace. Again this year the Global Culture Fair was a huge success; it was one of the events that truly bring the STX, HF and IB students together, and both leave the fair feeling as if the world is far bigger, and far more interesting, than before.
