I
s it possible to protect the world’s most popular food crops (wheat and corn above all) from stress by applying a circular economy model? The project SUSinCER coordinated by CREA aims at exploiting the agroindustrial waste with a residual added value in order to manage cereal production with a lower environmental impact while adopting a more sustainable plant health defence in order to also limit the contamination by mycotoxins. In this regard, potato peels and residues from rocket de-oiling (root and stem) represent valuable sources of bioactive compounds and this project aims at reintroducing them in the agro-industrial chain. The main recipients of this project are farmers who do not have valid biofungicides with low environmental impact.
