Saint George is the patron saint of England. His cross is England’s flag. Saint George lived in the Middle East around AD 300. He was tortured and killed because he was a Christian. There are many stories about Saint George’s strength and courage. The most famous is the story of Saint George and the The story took place in a small town called Silne. Today Silne has become known as the city of Beirut. And this is where the story begins.

The people of Silne had lived in fear of the dragon for many years. It lived in a cave on the edge of a stagnant lagoon a few miles from the town. Now the vapours from this lagoon would often be carried by the wind into town and the people came to believe that the dragon was responsible for the rotten smell that seeped through the streets. So they began to feed the dragon two sheep every day in the hope that it would go away. The story continues on the audio.
