WRITING WORKSHOP

2 Writing a description Horowitz describes the dragon in the story like this:

The dragon was far smaller than Saint George had expected – not a lot larger than his horse. It was a bright green colour with a peculiar, misshapen body. Its wings, for example, were far too small to enable it to fly. On one wing there was a pink ring and on the other a red one. It had two rather squat legs and claws and a long, serpent-like neck. But the only really menacing thing about it was its teeth, which were white and very sharp. Draw your own dragon. Then write a description of it. How big is it? What colour is it? What does its body look like? Does it have wings? What about its head and mouth? Anything else?

Britain ruled Ireland on and off for hundreds of years. They brought the English language and culture with them. The Republic of Ireland gained its freedom from Britain in 1922. The six counties of Northern Ireland are still part of the UK.
