CSM: The last couple of years were labeled as a rollercoaster ride with full of twists and probably surprises. How did you show your resiliency?

CRISSY: Yes, there are many ups and downs owning a gym during a pandemic. We quickly switched to virtual trainings classes and programs to keep our members engaged and active. We lent out weights and any equipment we could to our members to help keep them healthy and strong. We still offer virtual options as well as in-person options.

CSM: What’s the best course of action to take in the face of uncertainty?

CRISSY: Don’t fall into fear; I truly believe everything will line up the way it is meant to be. But if we

let fear hold us back from moving forward, we will never experience our full potential. When pushed to an uncomfortable place, we grow. We learn, we adapt and we change.

CSM: Professionally speaking, how can you exude being decisive?

CRISSY: I set boundaries and stay firm when it comes to holding them. This keeps me in a space where I can be confident with my decisions. This keeps me focused and in line with my current goals, needs, wants. Therefore, I don’t get caught off guard or easily thrown off. I feel like the lack of distraction and chaos allows me to make the best decisions for myself and my business.

CSM: What comeback goals do you want to achieve in 2022?

CRISSY: To regrow my business. We were able to maintain, and stay open these last couple years… but we have always wanted to grow. I would love to have more space for my current members and hopefully have more to offer to attract new members.

CSM: Define confidence and being sexy.

CRISSY: These are two of my favorite qualities. I definitely think feeling confident and sexy come from the inside, out. I don’t think it’s about one certain look or one attribute. I think we build these qualities from the inside out- by stepping out of comfort zones, by overcoming challenges, from our success as well as our failures.

CSM: How do you standout in a fast-paced and competitive industry?

CRISSY: Passion. Really loving what you do and not being afraid to show that side of you. My love for helping others find their “healthy lifestyle” is why I do what I do. People can sense real and authentic. I find people are attracted to that.

CSM: Career-wise, how can someone be a good influence to others?

CRISSY: Leading by example is always the best form of inspiration. By staying true to who you are and why you chose the career path you are on. Revisit your why, often, because sometimes our lives and goals change…we can fall out of love with what we were once passionate about, which is totally normal. But if we can get too complicit, we can just be going through the motions and eventually things start to slip. Continuously setting goals will also keep you inspired, on track, and motivated.

CSM: What vital lessons can you share to young people?

CRISSY: Go for it. Believe in yourself and dream big. Our lives are what we make of it. We have so much power and control, we tend to underestimate ourselves and put too much power in other people’s words and actions (or lack thereof). Take all feedback, positive and negative, with a grain of salt. At the end of the day, our own personal thoughts, of ourselves and our lives, are what really matter.

CSM: What do you think is the role of food or nutrition in healthy living?

CRISSY: What we eat and put in or bodies plays a huge role in living healthy. I believe when we feed our bodies with vitamins and nutrients, it heals itself. We need to give our body the tools to function properly and to take care of itself.

CSM: How can you maintain your consistency of weight or shape?

CRISSY: It’s a lifestyle for me. Staying active, eating well, keeping my sleep schedule and managing my stress level. I have built habits over the years that now require minimal “effort” because it’s how I live.

CSM: What fitness goals do you want to attain?

CRISSY: I want to always be as active as I am now; I hope to stay flexible, full of energy, and mobile. A body in motion stays in motion. This will be my mantra for the rest of my life.

CSM: What exercises do you consider fundamental?

CRISSY: I believe in a well-rounded fitness routine. Do cardio to keep our heart healthy, strength training to keep our muscles and joints strong, and flexibility movements to stay loose and at peace.

CSM: What gym etiquette that people must follow?

CRISSY: We ask that you be respectful to our space, our equipment, and other members.

So under this could be: Wiping down equipment after use, not slamming equipment or weights, limiting cellphone use, as it typically is a distraction and you spend more time on a machine that someone might be waiting on. Share equipment and space.

CSM: When you’re stressed, how do you manage it?

CRISSY: I am a huge believer of making gratitude lists. If I am ever feeling overwhelmed or stressed, I make a list of all the things in my life that I am grateful for, big or small.

CSM: Expound why mental matters in the digital age.

CRISSY: I do feel like our mental health needs to be strong this day in age. With the internet - we can, at the click of a button, receive instant praise, or negativity, instant likes, or lack thereof. We can’t put too much value in this. We have people making assumptions, without knowing us. So not taking these things to heart can be difficult. We need to keep in mind who we are, stay grounded, and not get caught up in the digital aspect. It can be taken away at any moment. The app could crash, people could stop following, and stop liking. Who are we then? Hopefully we are truly connected to ourselves and who we are.

CSM: Simplify if mental and physical health are connected or not.

CRISSY: I do find be strong mentally and physically are connected. I believe sometimes we start working on one or the other; for whatever reason; we end up eventually start working on both. And once we have realized how much they really are connected and we have invested time in being healthier on both sides, it’s a game changer.

CSM: In achieving fitness goals, what do people should remember?

CRISSY: Keep in mind-patience is a virtue. Sometimes our results come fast and sometimes they don’t come as fast. The strength to trust the process, and stay consistent through those “lulls” is imperative to long term success. I promise.

CSM: What stereotypes should people break when it comes to physical and mental health?

CRISSY: That we can’t have moments of weakness, doubt, or hesitation…that every day in the gym is going to be perfect, that we are always going to be “on our game”. Life is full of ups and downs. Enjoy the ups, embrace the downs.

CSM: Explain what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to you and why they’re important.

CRISSY: I embrace diversity, and we believe in equality and inclusion. This is important to us as well as our members. These things are important to us because we value what others bring to our space and to our lives. No matter where or what they are coming from. There is always something new learned.

CSM: What is the most challenging aspect of working in a diverse environment?

CRISSY: I think it would be, that sometimes, others may not be as open minded or accepting as you. Lead by example, embrace the diversity and hopefully others will do the same.

CSM: What is your approach to understanding the perspectives of colleagues from different backgrounds?

CRISSY: I just welcome all ideas and opinions. I feel like others, especially from different backgrounds, will bring a whole new perspective to any situation.

CSM: How would you handle a situation where a client or a talent was being culturally insensitive, sexist, racist, or homophobic?

CRISSY: I would state the boundaries that I have in place to remind them that this is unacceptable. If the behavior continues, I would have no issue removing them (or myself) from the situation.

CSM: How would you advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion with brands or companies that don’t understand its importance?

CRISSY: I am so thankful that I, personally, have not witnessed a brand or company that didn’t feel the same as I do when it comes to embracing diversity. But if I had to speak up for someone in this matter, I most definitely would.

CSM: Discuss a time when you advocated for diversity and inclusion.

CRISSY: At this point in my life, I have only had to do this with my children. I try to remind them daily that we have the choice to be kind and accepting. If we witness others not making the same choices we do, it reminds us to speak up and advocate for others.

CSM: Describe an ideal brand that has a sense of inclusion, belonging, and equity on a daily basis?

CRISSY: I can only speak for brands that I have experienced or worked with. I love working with Casey Withers Photography and Magnum Nutraceuticals. I have seen them in action, worked with them, and am impressed every time. I love seeing others practicing what they are preaching.

CSM: As a model and an entrepreneur, how do you handle feedback or criticism?

CRISSY: Again, with a grain of salt. I listen and I process accordingly. Sometimes it is valuable feedback that is something I can implement for a positive change, and sometimes it’s just someone’s “off day”. The fine line is being able to distinguish between the two, which can be challenging. But I think in time, you learn.

CSM: What are your goals as a business owner? How do you see yourself progress in this field?

CRISSY: My goals have always been to continue to grow, to persevere through the downs and enjoy the ups. These last few years have held me to that. While it could have seemed easier to close the doors and purse other things, we chose to reinvent our current plan and grow from there.

CSM: In modeling, how do you prepare for a new photo shoot?

CRISSY: I definitely make sure my nutrition and workouts are on point, I want to feel my best when I shoot. I also get as much details on the location as I can. This helps me plan my outfits, accessories, and poses. I like to show up prepared, not only physically, but mentally. I like to have a plan.

CSM: What steps will you take to eliminate bias from other brands or companies?

CRISSY: Having your boundaries and processes in place can help eliminate bias. I do believe in encouraging contribution, embracing diversity and listening to others opinions. Be open to what they are offering, again, keeping your boundaries firm as to what behaviors you are accepting.

CSM: What made you decide to be a gym (business) owner and a model?

CRISSY: I have always been in a gym of some sort, for as long as I can remember, whether working out, training, or teaching classes. It has always been a goal of mine. About 10 years ago, we decided it was time to venture out on our own.

CSM: Was there a motivation or perhaps an inspiration when you started owning a business?

CRISSY: Working for gyms was also my “side” job. I would have normal 9-5, then train or teach classes after work. Then after having our twins, I did not want to go back to a 9-5 desk job…I wanted to be involved in health and fitness as much as possible.

CSM: Do you have any limitations? Would you model any kind of clothing at all?

CRISSY: No, I don’t. I feel like anything can be done tastefully.

CSM: What do you think about the competition in the business and fitness industry?

CRISSY: I am in a small down, so I don’t think I am as aware of the competition. My town is full of small business owners, so I really feel we are surrounded by support.

CSM: What do you consider the toughest aspect of this job?

CRISSY: Health looks different to everyone, being fit looks different to everyone. A lot of times we hear how ready one is to jump in and make those positive changes…but in reality they really aren’t quite ready. But, you know they are worthy, you know they will feel better; you know they deserve to be healthy…but you can’t do it for them. You can just be there when they truly are ready.

CSM: Where do you see yourself in ten years from now?

CRISSY: I see myself doing what I’m doing now…just with growth. I really can’t see myself passionately doing anything else.

CSM: To those who wanted to venture this career, discuss the essential skills that they should possess and what advice would you give?

CRISSY: A love for health and fitness is crucial. A business mind, a strong work ethic, critical thinking and problem solving skills, professionalism as well as communication and leadership skills. Always be willing to change if something isn’t working.

CSM: The last couple of years were labeled as a rollercoaster ride with full of twists and probably surprises. How did you show your resiliency?

The past few years I showed resiliency by entirely changing my career path to follow my passion of helping and coaching people in their health or fitness journey full-time. I realized that life is too short to be doing something that does not make you happy.

CSM: What’s the best course of action to take in the face of uncertainty?

When there is uncertainty, you sometimes have to take the risk. At the end of the day, you never know unless you try something. You cannot become successful without failure so face your uncertainty head on.

CSM: Professionally speaking, how can you exude being decisive?

I can exude being decisive by taking risks.

CSM: What comeback goals do you want to achieve in 2022?

My comeback goals in 2022 are to expand my business as a health coach. I want to be able to help as many people as possible in their fitness journeys. I want to personally step on a national bikini competition stage with a competitive package.

CSM: Define confidence and being sexy. Confidence is being sexy. Confidence is not caring what other people say. When you are confident, you are sexy.

CSM: How do you standout in a fastpaced and competitive industry?

I stand out by being realistic and transparent about my journey as well as with all of my clients.

CSM: Career-wise, how can someone be a good influence to others?

Someone can be a good influence to others by wanting good for other people. If you are constantly doing something for selfish reasons, then you can end up not being a good influence on other people.

CSM: What vital lessons can you share to young people? I mentioned it before, but take the risk! Life is too short to spend your days doing something that does not make you happy.

ON FITNESS TRAINING AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE:

CSM: What do you think is role of food or nutrition in healthy living?

Food is vital in healthy living. The wrong foods can be detrimental to your long-term health.

CSM: How can you maintain your consistency of weight or shape?

Do it by gradually incorporating healthy habits into your everyday routine.

CSM: What exercises do you consider fundamental?

All the basics... those are the lifelong exercises that create a workout plan that can be used forever. Squats, planks, push-ups, crunches, etc.

CSM: What fitness goals do you want to attain?

I would like to live a long, healthy, and happy life overall. Short term I would like to turn pro in bodybuilding.

CSM: What gym etiquette that people must follow?

Do not laugh at others or judge other people in the gym. Everyone is in there to better themselves.

CSM: What exercises do you consider fundamental?

Functional movements and compound exercises.

CSM: When you’re stressed, how do you manage it?

I write, read, do yoga, talk to a therapist, or go to the gym. Sometimes, even just moving like a walk with my dog can serve to help manage my stress.

CSM: Expound why mental health m atters in the digital age.

Mental health is huge in the digital age. You should not feel afraid to bring up mental health or spend time on bettering yourself in these areas.

CSM: Simplify if mental and physical health are connected or not. If you are not mentally healthy, then your physical health will ultimately decline.

CSM: In achieving fitness goals, what do people should remember? There is no quick fix. With time, work, and consistency you will reach your goals!

Everyone feeling a sense of belonging and value without judgement. Without this, then there is no future.

CSM: How would you advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion with brands or companies that don’t understand its importance? Simply bringing this up to them and making them aware of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

CSM: What is the most challenging aspect of working in a diverse environment?

I don’t think it should be or is challenging to work in a diverse environment.

CSM: What is your approach to understanding the perspectives of colleagues from different backgrounds? Get to know everyone with out judgement.

CSM: How would you handle a situation where a client or a talent was being culturally insensitive, sexist, racist, or homophobic?

I do not tolerate that. They would no longer be a client of mine.

CSM: What steps will you take to eliminate bias from other brands or companies? Not working with brands or purchasing from brands that do not align with my morals, ideas, beliefs etc.

Everyone feeling a sense of belonging and value without judgement. Without this, then there is no future.”

IN-DEPTH CONNECTION AND PERSONALITY

CSM: The last couple of years were labeled as a rollercoaster ride with full of twists and probably surprises. How did you show your resiliency?

I showed my resiliency by sticking by the goals I had set for myself and finding new avenues to complete them despite all the setbacks.

CSM: What’s the best course of action to take in the face of uncertainty?

Gather as much info as you can, stay calm and make informed decisions from there.

CSM: Professionally speaking, how can you exude being decisive?

Compare the positives and negatives of decisions and deciding this is the right one.

CSM: What comeback goals do you want to achieve in 2022?

I really would like to expand my network in terms of modelling and push the boundaries with it.

CSM: Define confidence and being sexy.

I think confidence comes from self-awareness and being sexy comes from being passionate about who you are.

CSM: How do you standout in a fast-paced and competitive industry?

I think I have quite a unique look and can approach multiple styles enthusiastically.

CSM: Career-wise, how can someone be a good influence to others?

Helping them push their creative boundaries.

CSM: What vital lessons can you share to young people?

Everything is earned nothing is given. If you want something you’ll have to work for it.

ON FITNESS TRAINING AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE:

CSM: What do you think is the role of food or nutrition in healthy living?

The same as brick and mortar for a house.

CSM: How can you maintain your consistency of weight or shape?

The same as brick and mortar for a house.

CSM: What fitness goals do you want to attain? I would like to get a little bigger and lean down more.

CSM: What exercises do you consider fundamental? All compounds, bench; deadlifts and squats.

CSM: What gym etiquette that people must follow? Be respectful of others and kill your own ego.

CSM: When you’re stressed, how do you manage it?

Usually by going to the gym or meditating. Sometimes, even just moving like a walk with my dog can serve to help manage my stress.

CSM: Expound why mental health matters in the digital age. With everything being so fast paced, our minds struggle to comprehend what’s always going on which is why mental health is crucial to look after.

CSM: Simplify if mental and physical health are connected or not.

Definitely they are. Look good feel great. People don’t realise but endorphins are realised when the body exercises which impacts your mood and mental health.

CSM: In achieving fitness goals, what do people should remember?

The reason why they started.

CSM: What stereotypes should people break when it comes to physical and mental health?

It’s okay to ask for help but you should definitely take responsibility for your own mental health.

CSM: Explain what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to you and why they’re important.

For me, I think it means everyone deserves to have a fair go no matter what. If someone has the desire to do something, they should be at least given a chance to showcase their talents in that respective field.

CSM: How would you advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion with brands or companies that don’t understand its importance?

I would give them a different perspective in which would align with their values.

CSM: Discuss a time when you

CSM: What is the most challenging aspect of working in a diverse environment?

Catering to everyone’s different beliefs. Sometimes certain beliefs aren’t congruent with others but you have to remember it’s not about being right in your own mind but trying to understand someone else’s opinions.

CSM: What is your approach to understanding the perspectives of colleagues from different backgrounds?

Have an open mind and have a genuine curiosity about why they think what they think.

CSM: How would you handle a situation where a client or a talent was being culturally insensitive, sexist, racist, or homophobic?

Ask them to be respectful and help them realise they don’t deserve it.

When a friend of mine was being ridiculed for his background and culture I helped people understand why he was different in a way that made sense to them.

CSM: Describe an ideal brand that has a sense of inclusion, belonging, and equity on a daily basis?

Gymshark I believe is very good at this.

I would like to help advocate the power of being different and the creative opportunities it brings to brands and companies.
