FUEL PASSION WITH CREATIVITY.

Our feelings or passions are stemmed from inspiration and fuelled creativity. There is no single reaction or feeling exclusively favorable for innovation. The real secret is in how we utilize the good and bad events towards creativity.

Your passion is the fuel of life. It should be propelled with consistency and persistence. Sometimes, people put their passions on hold or leave it behind. You do not have to neglect it; you just have to refuel it. Passionate people tend to use their momentum to be motivated regardless if they will be happy or won’t be satis ed. This desire and commitment will allow individuals to maintain long-term goals. They are no strangers to setbacks or frustrations because levels of stress are part of creative work. Passion is complex and it is anchored with intensity which goes beyond feelings, work ful llment and engagement.

Rediscover that desire and fuel it by nding out what made you passionate about your passion. Go back to the

beginning and remember why it all started. Discover your why to help you nd what motivated you which will get you back in the game. Next, master and manage your emotions. Being responsible for your emotional state plays a vital role to refuel your passion.

Then, feed your soul and mind. To keep your creative juices owing, read books, watch movies, and get inspiration from other people, things or other places. Be consistent and patient. You have to commit and have patience. This will keep you driven and help you in the long run. Do what you love instead of forcing yourself to do something you do not like. Embrace the journey to keep your spirits high. To fuel your passion: Play your strengths, improve weaknesses, use your gi s and talents, and above all, celebrate your successes – both big and small.

Look good, feel great!

In-depth features approaching the scope of life decisions, importance of wellness, diversity and career perspectives. Exclusive interviews with the best in the business –from world-class public figures to influential faces.

CSM: The last couple of years were labeled as a rollercoaster ride with full of twists and probably surprises. How did you show your resiliency?

JB: I mean we all know what we sign up for when go head first into this industry, right? I think the hardest, and at the same time coolest, thing is that we have to be comfortable living in the unknown. And part of that is what you do during the inevitable ebb of your career, hell during the ebb of life in general. How do we handle ourselves during the harder parts? For me, it was having a good support system around, and saying yes to fun projects regardless of

their “prestige”. I like focusing on work that I love doing.

CSM: What’s the best course of action to take in the face of uncertainty?

JB: This kinda ties into the last question, but when things do start to ramp up, it’s important to stay present and enjoy a thing while it lasts. Take care of your mental health, whether it’s staying off social media, just connecting with people or nature, or going to therapy.

CSM: Professionally speaking, how can you exude being decisive?

JB: This probably happens as you become more comfortable with yourself and knowing what you really want. And I think this only happens over time and self-work.

CSM: What comeback goals do you want to achieve in 2022?

JB: Whether it’s just letting go of control or all the work catching up to me, the one year I set zero goals, I have the most successful ever in my career. Don’t get me wrong, goals are great and can be motivating, but there’s no set rules in this game, trust your gut.

CSM: Define confidence and being sexy.

JB: I’m self-deprecating to a fault, so I’m probably not a trustworthy source here. I think people who are happy with who they are, don’t give a shit what other people think, and are kind and purely altruistic are sexy.

CSM: How do you standout in a fast-paced and competitive industry?

JB: Do you. Be yourself. Do the work.

CSM: Career-wise, how can someone be a good influence to others?

JB: Honestly, I don’t think you focus on trying to be good influence to others. You do your job, you treat others with respect and kindness, and that goes a long way. If you’re in a position to give opportunities to people who don’t usually get offers, then you’re a king in my book.

CSM: What vital lessons can you share to young people?

JB: Oh man, that’s tough. There are so many young people in so many different situations. But this is universal. You have no idea what other people are going through, so if you’re kind, you truly could be saving someone’s life without even knowing it.

Fuel your passion and jumpstart your mindset with this guide to working smart to own the year 2022: all the street-smart competence and practical knowledge you need to take your life and career to rev up your creative thinking.

JB TADENA

ON THE REAL IMPORTANCE OF WELLNESS AND WHY REPRESENTATION TRULY MATTERS

CSM: When you’re stressed, how do you manage it?

JB: It’s amazing what some deep breathing can do to alleviate stress. Overall, I think it’s different for everyone. But you know, getting outside and touchin’ some grass, a good heavy workout is great too. I know its cliché, but meditation can be very helpful. Your meditation can be approached in different ways, whether it is traditional or something else like surfing.

CSM: Expound why mental health matters in the digital age.

JB: To me, this reads social media. Whether its doom scrolling or connecting with others, it can be a fun way to make new friends. What can affect us are the comparisons to others, the trolls, and the constant array of heavy news stories. That can be extremely overwhelming.

CSM: In achieving fitness goals, what do people should remember?

JB: That a lot of the shredded bodies we see on the internet are because of an impossible industry standard. It takes a lot of time, money, and effort for a lot of people to reach that kind of level and most of us don’t have all of those. Practice, makes progress and give yourself credit. My friend and trainer Amy Kiser always says, “Be where you are today”.

CSM: Explain what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to you and why they’re important.

JB: Obviously diversity, equity, and inclusion are very important to me. And the fact that this question is still asked is why it’s still an important subject to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and the differing religions. Until there is parity in opportunity and seeing all walks of life consistently portrayed in media, it will continue to be important to us.

CSM: What is the most challenging aspect of working in a diverse environment?

JB: The more diverse the environment the less challenging the workplace has been. More opinions are considered, more opportunities given, and people are treated with respect more often than not.

CSM: How would you handle a situation where a client or a talent was being culturally insensitive, sexist, racist, or homophobic?

JB: I think the only way for change to come into effect for someone with those ideas, is immersion in cultures that are not of their own and to leave their echo chamber of vitriol.

Until there is parity in opportunity and seeing all walks of life consistently portrayed in media, it will continue to be important to us.”

JB TADENA

Talks about his role in The CW’s Kung Fu, and experiences in film and acting

CSM: You’re an actor both in television and movies and a producer too. Where did all that creativity and tenacity come from?

JB: My mom. She was a creative before she became a nurse and I think that artistry carried over. I loved all sorts of media growing up, TV, film, video games, books, comics, you name it. I love good stories and great characters. The tenacity I think just comes from gigantic chip on my shoulder of being told I can’t do things.

CSM: If you had to choose between being an actor or a producer, what would you pick and why?

JB: I only produce to create things me and my friends can act in so that’s an easy question. I love acting. Exploring humanity and finding beauty in unexpected places, it’s a trip.

CSM: Kung Fu of The CW premiered in April 2021 and it was a great hit especially with the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities across the country and the drama-martial arts realm. Career-wise, how was the journey and what are the things that you learned about this great project?

JB: Leading up to the show, I was released from three other productions that seemed like a good fit. This happened all within a week. The cherry on top was when my PlayStation 5 bricked that very same week. So, when I got the audition for Kung Fu, and the breakdown said, “sexy, fun, chef”, I was like “well I don’t fit this at all”. Happily, Christina and Bob, the creators, thought otherwise. Kung Fu has been an absolute dream. The cast, the crew, the bosses, have all been incredible and I honestly can’t say enough good things.

CSM: Let’s talk about your latest project that you’re currently involved with. You’re one of the up-and-coming actors now and this is one of your biggest roles to date. How was the creative process like?

JB: I’ve never been a part of such a collaborative process and having your input has weight means a great deal. They let me incorporate the Philippine Sun and Stars into my character’s tattoo and he cooks Adobo. It’s no small thing that they’re putting this much attention to detail for me. It really has been a hell of an experience to create and find Sebastian as we move along when surprises develop. I’m excited to see where else he goes.

CSM: What preparations and training did you undergo to prepare you for the role of Sebastian in the new season of The CW’s Kung Fu?

JB: There’s lots of perks that some actors are afforded, that, to be frank, Asian-Americans are not. We’re constantly expected to know other languages and martial arts simply because. But I’m super grateful that “Kung Fu” has invested the time to help me develop better knife skills and the on-set Chef, Gary, has been really helpful in giving me tips to command the kitchen. Watching all that Food Network has finally come in handy.

CSM: The pandemic really changed the game and impacted the entertainment or film industry. As an actor, what are your thoughts on hybrid release of films from studios? Do you think movies should be only released theatrically or simultaneously with on-demand streaming services?

JB: This is a tough question. I think everyone should have access to films and I also think there are some movies that are just immensely better in a theater setting. The hybrid release also seems to do away with the mid budget films, which is a damn shame. As an actor, I’m just happy to do good work in good projects regardless of how they’re released.

CSM: Entertainment and film industry have already started to adapt to new normal work settings in terms of production and shoots due to the onslaught of pandemic. What are your thoughts on mandated vaccination before working and penalizing cast members or film crew members who breach health protocols?

JB: If you’re asking whether I think cast and crew that are working on gigantic sets should be vaccinated and masked, the answer is yes. The science is readily available. Keep your sets as safe as possible.

JB Tadena is a Filipino-American actor who stars in hit TV series

The CW’s Kung-Fu as Sebastian in season 2. It will premiere its new episodes on March 9 every Wednesday at 9|8 central.

CSM: How would you describe your character, Sebastian in Kung Fu and how is this different from your previous roles such as SEAL Team’s (2019) Johnny Bayani, and Hawaii Five-O’s (2016) Edward Torres?

JB: For starters, Sebastian is one of the first larger characters I’ve played that is Filipino-American as opposed to Filipino. But I’ve been lucky enough to be able to portray a very diverse set of personalities in my career. Sebastian is rougher around the edges. He’s a bit mysterious and a little unpredictable. The arc and the array of sides of him we get to see through the season are something I’m proud of.

CSM: This is the second season of the rebooted classic series, what can the audience expect from this anticipated action-drama show and how is it different from the previous season?

JB: There’s so many great character moments this season and new and fun relationships develop. There’s no shortage of sick fight sequences and really cool twists. Season 2 raises the stakes and I think the fans are gonna have a blast.

CSM: Filming this new season of Kung Fu may have underwent some challenges due to the pandemic and strict restrictions on-set, how did you manage to cope with this situation and what was your experience like?

JB: Kung Fu has been really on it with the COVID-19 protocols and making everyone feel safe. It’s definitely stressful, with the lingering feeling of if you get it you potentially get a lot of people sick and could shut down a major production. But I feel that things have been running smoothly and safely here.

CSM: What upcoming or ongoing projects are you currently working on?

JB: I’m currently voicing Lolo Ben, the grandfather of a Filipino-American kid on the Disney Jr Animated show, “Firebuds,” coming out this year to Disney Jr. and Disney Plus. I also voice Daniel Take Yatsu in the recent release, Call of Duty Vanguard.

CSM: If the universe is listening, what film or TV projects do you want to get involved with?

JB: Sci-Fi is one genre that I love that’s been eluding me. The Mass Effect series that’s beginning production is one that’s caught my eye and as always anything Marvel related.

CSM: What major recommendations or key advice would you give to Filipinos and the Asian community who want to venture acting or maybe enter the world of entertainment and showbiz?

JB: If your intentions and passion for it are pure, then really it’s just a matter of time. Do the work. Root for your friend’s success. Say yes to projects that excite you. Take care of your mental health. Yes, it gets hard as all hell at times. But when it’s good, it’s damn good.

If your intentions and passion for it are pure, then really it’s just a matter of time. Do the work. Root for your friend’s success. Say yes to projects that excite you. Take care of your mental health... ”

IN-DEPTH CONNECTION AND PERSONALITY

CSM: The last couple of years were labeled as a rollercoaster ride with full of twists and probably surprises. How did you show your resiliency?

I think that knowing yourself and who you are within is what gives you the courage to face adversity and show true resilience. Becoming a self-reliant person is important so that when times are challenging and you fall, you aren’t dependent on someone else to pick you back up.

CSM: What’s the best course of action to take in the face of uncertainty?

I think the best thing to do when facing uncertainty is to lean into your faith. Believe that things will turn out positively and do it scared.

CSM: Professionally speaking, how can you exude being decisive?

Being decisive takes confidence. When you have put in the work in whatever profession you are in, there should be a level of comfort in that field. Be confident in what you are an expert in and in that, you will find the ability to be decisive.

CSM: What comeback goals do you want to achieve in 2022?

I have so many comeback goals planned for this year. I have both personal and professional goals. I would love to broaden my real estate brokerage and photography business. Coming back from a few rough years in hospitality by showing up stronger is first on my professional goal list. Personally, I would love to incorporate more strength training into my fitness schedule.

CSM: Define confidence and being sexy. These two go hand-in-hand in my book. Regardless of whether you see yourself as sexy, other people will if you are confident. Loving yourself in your own skin creates such a vibe of self-love that other people pick up on that!

CSM: How do you standout in a fastpaced and competitive industry?

I stand out by not trying to compete with the others --- I compete with myself. I don’t try to be the biggest fish in the pond. I want to standout for being genuine and humble in a world that sometimes are not those things.

CSM: Career-wise, how can someone be a good influence to others?

I think about those that have influence in my life and they all share some qualities in common. They are all humble, honest, loyal and trustworthy. They are there to help others and never criticize anyone for trying to better themselves.

CSM: What vital lessons can you share to young people? The things that truly matter in life are not going to be found on social media or by having the nicest material things. The things in life that make you happy in life all come from your faith, being loved and caring for others.

ON FITNESS TRAINING AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE:

CSM: What do you think is role of food or nutrition in healthy living?

The things that truly matter in life are not going to be found on social media or by having the nicest material things. The things in life that make you happy in life all come from your faith, being loved and caring for others.

CSM: How can you maintain your consistency of weight or shape?

Staying active throughout the day whether it is parking further away from a store to get in steps or by going to a fitness class.

CSM: What exercises do you consider fundamental?

All the basics... those are the lifelong exercises that create a workout plan that can be used forever. Squats, planks, push-ups, crunches, etc.

CSM: What gym etiquette that people must follow?

Don’t slam the weights and put up your equipment!

CSM: When you’re stressed, how do you manage it?

Take it back to the simple exercises. Don’t overcomplicate things until your mind is clearer for creativity.

CSM: Expound why mental health m atters in the digital age.

We live in an age where we are on display for the opinions of others. Strangers behind a keyboard feel that it is acceptable to make negative comments on people that they have never met. This can really wear on someone’s vision of themself. If you have mental health issues, this can open you up to unnecessary scrutiny that can harm you in the long run. We need to focus on being mentally healthy so that the opinions of others are irrelevant to our self-worth.

CSM: Simplify if mental and physical health are connected or not.

Yes, absolutely. If you aren’t in a great head space, you can’t possibly put out your best effort when it comes to physical health.

CSM: In achieving fitness goals, what do people should remember?

It doesn’t matter if other people get it or are supportive of your goals. You have to do it for you!

ASHLEY KOHLS

ON DIVERSITY, INCLUSIVITY & EQUITY

CSM: Explain what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to you and why they’re important. Being diverse is what makes this world interesting. Millions of the same people would make life boring.

CSM: How would you advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion with brands or companies that don’t understand its importance? Give examples of how being more diverse or inclusive would benefit them and their consumers.

CSM: What is the most challenging aspect of working in a diverse environment? We haven’t walked in everyone’s shoes so working in an environment where you have little experience of what shaped those around you can be difficult. That is where being open-minded and accepting come into play.

CSM: What is your approach to understanding the perspectives of colleagues from different backgrounds? Just like I mentioned above, being open-minded, accepting and sensitive to others’ backgrounds as they may be different from your own.

CSM: Describe an ideal brand that has a sense of inclusion, belonging, and equity on a daily basis?

Lululemon. From their culture to their ad campaigns

... being open-minded, accepting and sensitive to others’ backgrounds as they may be different from your own.”

IN-DEPTH CONNECTION AND PERSONALITY

CSM: The last couple of years were labeled as a rollercoaster ride with full of twists and probably surprises. How did you show your resiliency?

The past few years I showed resiliency by entirely changing my career path to follow my passion of helping and coaching people in their health or fitness journey full-time. I realized that life is too short to be doing something that does not make you happy.

CSM: What’s the best course of action to take in the face of uncertainty?

When there is uncertainty, you sometimes have to take the risk. At the end of the day, you never know unless you try something. You cannot become successful without failure so face your uncertainty head on.

CSM: Professionally speaking, how can you exude being decisive?

I can exude being decisive by taking risks.

CSM: What comeback goals do you want to achieve in 2022?

My comeback goals in 2022 are to expand my business as a health coach. I want to be able to help as many people as possible in their fitness journeys. I want to personally step on a national bikini competition stage with a competitive package.

CSM: Define confidence and being sexy.

Confidence is being sexy. Confidence is not caring what other people say. When you are confident, you are sexy.

CSM: How do you standout in a fast-paced and competitive industry?

I stand out by being realistic and transparent about my journey as well as with all of my clients.

CSM: Career-wise, how can someone be a good influence to others?

Someone can be a good influence to others by wanting good for other people. If you are constantly doing something for selfish reasons, then you can end up not being a good influence on other people.

CSM: What vital lessons can you share to young people? I mentioned it before, but take the risk! Life is too short to spend your days doing something that does not make you happy.

ON FITNESS TRAINING AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE:

CSM: What do you think is the role of food or nutrition in healthy living?

Food is vital in healthy living. The wrong foods can be detrimental to your long-term health.

CSM: How can you maintain your consistency of weight or shape?

Do it by gradually incorporating healthy habits into your everyday routine.

CSM: What fitness goals do you want to attain?

I would like to live a long, healthy, and happy life overall. Short term I would like to turn pro in bodybuilding.

CSM: What exercises do you consider fundamental?

Functional movements and compound exercises.

CSM: What gym etiquette that people must follow?

Do not laugh at others or judge other people in the gym. Everyone is in there to better themselves.

CSM: When you’re stressed, how do you manage it?

I write, read, do yoga, talk to a therapist, or go to the gym. Sometimes, even just moving like a walk with my dog can serve to help manage my stress.

CSM: Expound why mental health matters in the digital age. Mental health is huge in the digital age. You should not feel afraid to bring up mental health or spend time on bettering yourself in these areas.

CSM: Simplify if mental and physical health are connected or not.

If you are not mentally healthy, then your physical health will ultimately decline.

CSM: In achieving fitness goals, what do people should remember? There is no quick fix. With time, work, and consistency you will reach your goals!

Everyone feeling a sense of belonging and value without judgement. Without this, then there is no future.

CSM: What is the most challenging aspect of working in a diverse environment?

I don’t think it should be or is challenging to work in a diverse environment.

CSM: What is your approach to understanding the perspectives of colleagues from different backgrounds? Get to know everyone with out judgement.

CSM: How would you handle a situation where a client or a talent was being culturally insensitive, sexist, racist, or homophobic?

I do not tolerate that. They would no longer be a client of mine.

CSM: Describe an ideal brand that has a sense of inclusion, belonging, and equity on a daily basis?

Buffbunny Collection is a clothing brand in the fitness community that I think has a great sense of inclusion, belonging, and equity on a daily basis.
