La Habana por su parte, festeja su aniversario en noviembre y este año, el 503 de su citadina historia, no toca menos. Alegría, regocijo, diversión y ancestrales tradiciones convergerán en el simbólico espacio donde los primeros habaneros participaron, el 16 de noviembre de 1519, de la fundación de esta ciudad de buenos augurios. Y continuamos paso por la capital cubana, para visitar el Museo de Artes Decorativas donde poesía y vocación convergen para mostrar el alma exquisita de la más grande escritora cubana del siglo XX. La exposición: Dulce María Loynaz y el arte de coleccionar muestra el mundo interior y el entorno en que vivió la admirable poetisa, sin dudas, una sugerente invitación a tomar en cuenta.

Meanwhile, Havana celebrates its anniversary in November and this year, the 503rd anniversary of the city history, is no less important. Joy, amusement, fun and ancestral traditions will converge in the symbolic space where the first Havana inhabitants participated, on November 16, 1519, in the founding of this city of good omens. CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL DE COCTELERÍA 2022 World Cocktail Championship

Los mejores cantineros a nivel internacional, se darán cita durante el 69 Campeonato Mundial de Coctelería 2022 con sede en Cuba.

El famoso balneario Varadero acogerá, del 4 al 9 de noviembre, la multiplicidad de tendencias, técnicas, mezclas y sabores que proponen talentosos representantes de más de 60 países.

Auspiciado por la Asociación Internacional de Bartenders (IBA, por sus siglas en inglés), tendrá lugar en el majestuoso y sofisticado Hotel Meliá Internacional Varadero. Será este espacio ideal para congregar competidores, presidentes de las asociaciones miembros de la IBA, expositores representando a empresas de bebidas y productos cubanos, organizaciones relacionadas con el sector y amantes de la coctelería.

The best international bartenders will meet during the 69th World Cocktail Championship 2022, to be held in Cuba. The famous Varadero beach resort will host, from November 4 to 9, the diversity of trends, techniques, mixes and flavors proposed by talented representatives from more than 60 countries. Sponsored by the International Bartenders Association (IBA), the event will take place at the majestic and sophisticated Meliá Internacional Varadero Hotel. This will be the ideal space to gather competitors, presidents of IBA member associations, exhibitors representing Cuban beverage and product companies, organizations related to the field and cocktail lovers.

La Isla, fascinante destino seguro y hospitalario, y la histórica Asociación de Cantineros de Cuba reciben el honor de ser anfitriones del icónico evento. Selección que supone un reconocimiento a la cantina nacional, distinguida por su historia, tradición y trascendencia en el mundo, así como por la profesionalidad de sus exponentes.

Estilo clásico y libre (flair) serán las modalidades que conforman el concurso.

Para esta edición, el certamen presenta un cambio en su esquema tradicional, al incluir pruebas sensoriales, de velocidad y conocimientos, mediante una estructura de tres rondas a partir de las cuales se irán eliminando participantes. En la gala de clausura, las propuestas de los finalistas deben ser cócteles de su creación con base de ron Havana Club, legendaria marca símbolo de cubanía y cuya empresa será patrocinadora del Campeonato.

Cuba, a fascinating, safe and friendly destination, and the longstanding Asociación de Cantineros de Cuba are honored to host the legendary event. Selecting the country as the venue is a recognition to the national bartending, distinguished by its history, tradition and transcendence in the world, as well as by the expertise of its representatives. Classic and free style (flair) will be the categories that make up the competition. For this year’s event, the traditional structure of the championship has been changed to include sensory, speed and skill tests, with a three-round structure from which participants will be removed from the competition. At the closing ceremony, the finalists' proposals must be cocktails created by them with Havana Club rum, a legendary brand that symbolizes the Cuban spirit and the company of which will sponsor the Championship.

Representando al país antillano concursará, en estilo clásico, Vladimir Márquez, ganador del Campeonato Nacional Fabio Delgado in Memoriam del 2020. Mientras que en el nivel flair estará Yasmani Portales, quien destaca en esta categoría con su estilo, acrobacias y espectaculares combinaciones que resultan en un maravilloso espectáculo.

La entrega ostenta un atractivo programa que incluye distintas actividades como el desfile de banderas, el relanzamiento del libro «Un brindis por mi Habana», el encuentro de Maestros del Ron cubano, fascinantes maridajes con chocolate, ron, café y tabaco, así como la elaboración del cóctel del campeón mundial del gremio Sergio Serrano Rivero titulado «Adán y Eva», y en esta ocasión se pretende realizar el más grande del mundo.

La inspiración que despierta cual fuera el más emblemático hotel durante la década del 50, revive hoy en una llamativa propuesta a cargo de la prestigiosa cadena Meliá: Hotel Meliá Internacional, uno de los más antiguos atractivos, en los 22 km que abarca el mítico paraíso Varadero.

El 24 de diciembre de 1950 el hotel de mayor lujo en la playa azul, abría sus puertas a la alta burguesía criolla y extranjera, que poco podía resistir las tentaciones que le ofrecía la isla; sin embargo, la majestuosidad que se aprecia hoy en esa área, responde a una nueva construcción realizada una vez que, debido a su eminente deterioro, fue demolido el histórico Varadero Internacional dando lugar a una contemporánea idea inaugurada en el 2019. En su modalidad de todo incluido, el actual Internacional, se ubica a unos metros de los límites que ocupaba su predecesor. Manteniendo su cercanía al mar, ofrece fabulosas panorámicas del entorno marítimo y se levanta ante la primera línea de playa, lo que permite el disfrute de los servicios del hotel sin estar dentro de este.

Su tecnología SUMA reporta un impacto incalculable en la determinación temprana de graves enfermedades; está presente en 2 094 servicios nacionales y 378 laboratorios foráneos; con su auxilio se han realizado más de 157,6 millones de pruebas, de estas, una cifra superior a 11,8 millones para la prevención de la transmisión de infecciones de la madre al feto.

Treinta y tres proyectos para el desarrollo de la biología molecular con nueve diagnosticadores, también son producto de la labor del CIE, reconocido a nivel internacional, orgullo de la industria biofarmacéutica cubana.

A research between the Roswell Park Institute, in the United States, and the Centro de Inmunología Molecular, CIM, (Center for Molecular Immunology), in Havana, showed a new strategy to correct immune dysfunction in cancer patients.

The research was published in the Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer by Roswell Park and it praised the finding of a new immune modulator known as VSSP that

can significantly reduce myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) among people with advanced kidney cancer.

At the same time, CIM researchers completed an early-phase clinical trial of VSSP in 15 patients with metastatic kidney cancer; after treatment, the number of MDSCs was significantly reduced, and increased levels of monocytes and dendritic cells were found.

Recientemente fue presentada en Cuba a las máximas autoridades la estrategia para la creación de una vacuna contra el dengue, enfermedad que actualmente presenta una situación compleja en el país.

Científicos y expertos presentaron al presidente Miguel Díaz-Canel, y al primer ministro Manuel Marrero, los diferentes pasos de dicha estrategia que nació en 1992, y desarrollan en alianza el Instituto de Medicina Tropical Pedro Kourí (IPK) y el CIGB.

Los ponentes advirtieron que es un estudio que requiere tiempo, pero que en su avance se aprecia que es posible de alcanzar por la experiencia de los investigadores cubanos y los tantos conocimientos adquiridos en este universo.

El Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de Medicamentos (CIDEM) descubrió que la molécula JM-20 puede servir para el tratamiento del Alzheimer y el Parkinson.

Esta institución se dedica al estudio de productos innovadores entre ellos, los empleados en el tratamiento de enfermedades neurodegenerativas; la molécula JM-20, arrojó buenos resultados en el tratamiento de la isquemia cerebral, primera enfermedad neurológica en que se evaluó; durante este proceso los científicos hicieron el descubrimiento.

Este proyecto, colaboración entre la Facultad de Química de la Universidad de La Habana y entidades del Grupo Empresarial BioCubaFarma, se inició hace ya diez años y los investigadores prevén comenzar la primera fase de ensayos clínicos en 2023.

Strategy for the creation of a Cuban vaccine against dengue fever

The strategy for the creation of a vaccine against dengue, a disease that currently presents a complex situation in the country, was recently presented to the highest authorities in Cuba.

Scientists and specialists presented to President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero the different steps of this strategy, which was born in 1992 and is being developed jointly by the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) and the CIGB.

The speakers warned this research takes time, but that its progress shows that it is possible to achieve due to the experience of Cuban researchers and the expertise gained in this field.

CIDEM discovers molecule for the treatment of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease

Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de Medicamentos, CIDEM, (Center for Research and Development of Medicines) discovered that the JM-20 molecule can be used for the treatment of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.

This institution is dedicated to the research of innovative products, among them, those used in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases; the JM-20 molecule showed good results in the treatment of brain ischemia, the first neurological disease in which it was tested; during this process, the scientists made the discovery.

This project, a cooperation between the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Havana and institutions of the Grupo Empresarial BioCubaFarma (BioCubaFarma Business Group), began ten years ago and the researchers plan to start the first stage of clinical trials in 2023.

This November 16, as every year, Havana will be celebrating, this time, its 503 years of foundation and also the 40th anniversary of its Historic Center and its System of Fortifications, declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. For this reason, visiting the city is a sort of enchantment, a prodigious discovery, a fulfillment of longings.

Una de sus tradiciones más antiguas son las vueltas a un árbol milagroso, que se realiza el propio día, a las 12 de la noche. Cuenta una vieja leyenda que, a la sombra de una gran ceiba, se ofició la primera misa y el primer cabildo de la villa de San Cristóbal de La Habana. Así, en cada aniversario, la mítica Plaza de Armas se repleta de personas ávidas por ser parte del ritual que traerá a sus vidas todo cuanto en secreto pidan a la Ceiba. La tradición revela que es necesario darle tres vueltas, tocando su tronco, para beneficiarse de la concesión de los deseos: salud, amor, sueños… Cada aniversario es un acontecimiento social y cultural al que se suman conciertos, desfiles, y exposiciones, se recrean pasajes coloniales y se evoca la génesis de la ciudad.

One of its oldest traditions is going around a magical tree, performed on the same day, at 12 o'clock at night. An old tale tells that, under the shade of a large ceiba tree, the first mass and the first town council of the town of San Cristóbal de La Habana were held. Discovering prominent Cuban writer Dulce Maria Loynaz from her side as a passionate collector is the proposal of the beautiful exhibition hosted by the magnificent Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas in El Vedado, Havana.

Entitled “Dulce María Loynaz y el arte de coleccionar” (Dulce María Loynaz and the Art of Collecting), the exhibition invites visitors to a fascinating journey through the life of the renowned poet, her inner world, everyday life, environment and the objects that furnished her home. The pieces make up three main collections that Duce María Loynaz treasured throughout her life, showing her eagerness to collect, because more than just acquiring them, her interest in preserving, classifying and studying them in detail can be appreciated.

En la exhibición resalta el conjunto de «algo tan mío y tan amado por mí como mis abanicos», según expresara Dulce María durante su primera exposición en enero de 1958 realizada en el capitalino Museo de Bellas Artes. Exotismo, elegancia y belleza se mezclan en la gran diversidad de estilos, formas, colores, tamaños, tipologías y materiales de estos abanicos provenientes de distintos países. Apreciarlos supone acercarse a la variedad de historias, épocas y vivencias reflejadas desde la hermosura y refinamiento que distingue su más importante colección. A nivel mundial, constituye una de las más abarcadoras de este tipo, atesoradas por personas naturales. Resulta además, una de las más completas y que de acuerdo a la escritora, está superada solo por la de los Duques de Alba en España.

The exhibition highlights the collection of “something as personal and beloved to me as my fans”, as Dulce María said during her first exhibition in January 1958, held at the Museo de Bellas Artes in Havana. Exoticism, elegance and beauty are mixed in the great diversity of styles, shapes, colors, sizes, types and materials of these fans from different countries. Enjoying them is to approach the range of history, times and experiences expressed in the beauty and elegance that distinguish her most important collection.

It is one of the most comprehensive collections of its kind in the world, owned by individuals. It is also one of the most complete and, according to Dulce María, it is only topped by that of the Duke and Duchess of Alba in Spain.

La muestra cuenta con un grupo de tazas de distintas manufacturas y períodos, dispuestas de forma un tanto informal, evocando la manera en que Loynaz las preservaba. De esta forma, desde los más hermosos diseños y tonalidades, transportan a diferentes culturas y países como Japón, China, Francia, Alemania, Inglaterra y España. Se suman pintorescas muñecas que representan memorias de sus numerosos viajes por el mundo y que conservaba agrupadas. Curiosas y coloridas, estas figuras constituyen auténticas cómplices de sus innumerables aventuras y experiencias.

Asimismo, desde hermosos muebles pertenecientes al museo, la exposición busca recrear espacios del que fuera el último hogar de Dulce María. Se sirve entonces de fotografías, objetos personales, el detallista inventario manuscrito de sus abanicos e incluso el Premio de Literatura en Lengua Castellana «Miguel de Cervantes» con el que fue galardonada.

It includes photographs, personal objects, the detailed handwritten inventory of her fans and even the “Miguel de Cervantes” Prize for Literature in the Spanish Language with which she was awarded.

Con sede principal en el Gran Teatro de La Habana “Alicia Alonso” y en las salas Covarrubias y Avellaneda del Teatro Nacional de Cuba, en La Habana, esta alada cita tiene, además, como subsedes, los teatros: Sauto en Matanzas; el Tomás Terry, de Cienfuegos y el Milanés de Pinar del Río.

This meeting of high-flying artists, one of the most important in the world, the oldest in the world, founded by three essential figures of Cuban dance: Alicia, Fernando and Alberto Alonso, continues to bring ovations and to nourish spirits. As in each of its previous events, throughout these sixty-two years, the Havana International Ballet Festival has favored a nourishing exchange among dancers, producers and specialized people. Cuban and foreign audiences have been able to enjoy fantastic performances, with a superior level both in the majesty of the staging and in the flawless technique. Después de cuatro años sin efectuarse, este encuentro está siendo una oportunidad exclusiva para el público, de deleitarse con las actuaciones y la obra creadora de figuras estrellas de la danza mundial y de la isla. Una de las sorpresas disfrutadas en esta cita es el regreso de Viengsay Valdés a escena, dando vida a la icónica Giselle, en ocasión del aniversario 77 del debut de la prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, junto al American Ballet Theatre. Desde que surgió en 1960, el festival ha sido un reto perpetuo de prodigar propuestas artísticas extraordinarias, que satisfacen a un público conocedor, que disfruta con pleno conocimiento, de ese vuelo de ángeles. Esta cita, que nuevamente ha hecho coincidir en escenarios comunes, lo más encumbrado del ballet del orbe, muestra una variada programación, en la que se insertan y confluyen tendencias modernas y diferentes estilos, tanto del Ballet Nacional de Cuba, como de otras compañías internacionales.

After four years without taking place, this meeting is being an exclusive opportunity for the public to enjoy the performances and the creative work of stars of world and Cuban dance. One of the surprises to be enjoyed at this event is the return of Viengsay Valdés to the stage, giving life to the legendary Giselle, on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the debut of prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, together with the American Ballet Theatre. “Giselle”, “La Cenicienta”, “El lago de los cisnes”, “Verbum”, “Tierra y luna”, “Truenos y relámpagos”, “Un concierto en blanco y negro”, son algunos de los repertorios llevados a escena en este magnífico festival que no termina en su encantamiento pródigo. Y a todo esto se le suman exposiciones relacionadas con el bello arte de los pirouette, arabesque, grand jeté, una de ellas se exhibe en la sala Covarrubias del Teatro Nacional: “Miradas en Pas de deux”, de los fotógrafos Ariel Cecilio Lemus y Maykel Espinosa, con imágenes del festival anterior (2018) y

de las más recientes funciones del Ballet Nacional de Cuba, institución Patrimonio de la Cultura Cubana. Continúe pues, haciéndose la luz y el vuelo junto a las más emotivas sinfonías para que se desborde ese espíritu alado de quienes se regocijan entregando pasión y técnica, serenidad e ímpetu. Todavía queda tiempo para disfrutar de esas alas de luz que coinciden y se muestran cercanas. Hasta el 13 de noviembre que culmina el festival, La Habana, cual anfitriona espléndida, abre sus telones para mostrar al mundo esta cita irrepetible.

“Giselle”, “Cinderella”, “Swan Lake”, “Verbum”, “Earth and Moon”, “Thunder and Lightning”, “A Concert in Black and White”, are some of the repertoires staged in this magnificent festival that does not end in its splendid fascination. In addition to all this, there are exhibitions related to ballet dance, one of them is on display in the Covarrubias hall of the National Theater: “Miradas en Pas de deux”, by photographers Ariel Cecilio Lemus and Maykel Espinosa, with images of the previous festival (2018) and of the most recent performances of the National Ballet of Cuba, a Cuban Cultural Heritage institution.

Therefore, the light and the flight continue to be performed together with the most emotional symphonies so that the winged spirit of those who enjoy delivering passion and technique, serenity and momentum overflows. There is still time to enjoy those wings of light that coincide and come close. A ritmo de tambores, La Habana da la bienvenida a uno de los acontecimientos más esperados por bailadores del mundo: Baila en Cuba 2022, un acontecimiento a toda música. Los amantes de la salsa y el casino; academias internacionales de baile y aquellos que gustan saborear una nación desde su esencia, se reunirán una vez más, en medio del jolgorio que significan cinco noches de conciertos, más una de gala inaugural, con las mejores agrupaciones bailables de Cuba. Esta edición, la número 16 del esperado evento, estará dedicada a la Rumba, un ritmo típico cubano, compuesto por toques, cantos, bailes y pantomima. Una de las manifestaciones musicales de mayor prestigio folclórico y popular de la isla que fuera reconocida, desde el 2016, como Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad. Unido a la Rumba, la celebración de los 70 años de la prestigiosa agrupación cubana: Los muñequitos de Matanzas.

Heredera de una larga y armoniosa tradición, con destacados creadores e intérpretes, la música popular cubana, en especial la bailable, es identitaria de la isla caribeña. Havana welcomes, to the rhythm of drums, one of the most awaited events by dancers from all over the world: Baila en Cuba 2022, an event full of music. Salsa and casino lovers, international dance academies and those who like to taste a nation from its essence will gather once again, amidst the excitement of five nights of concerts, as well as an opening ceremony, with Cuba's best dance groups. This 16th event will be dedicated to the Rumba, a traditional Cuban rhythm made up of music, songs, dances and pantomime. One of the most prestigious folkloric and popular musical expressions of Cuba that was acknowledged, since 2016, as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In addition to Rumba, the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the prestigious Cuban group: Los muñequitos de Matanzas. Cuban popular music, particularly dance music, has inherited a long and harmonious tradition, with outstanding creators and performers, and it is the identity of the country. Es por todo ello, que del 13 al 18 de noviembre La Habana será orgullosa anfitriona de Baila en Cuba. Esta urbe espectacular rendirá así, honores a su condición de Ciudad Creativa de la Unesco en el apartado de música, categoría que según Katherine MüllerMarín: … es también una celebración al ritmo y la energía inconfundibles que acompañan la banda sonora de esta ciudad .

El Salón Rosado de la Tropical -popularmente conocido como el palacio del bailador- es centro del evento cultural y plaza abierta para todo el que goce con la música cubana. Allí, los participantes disfrutarán las interpretaciones de las orquestas invitadas y se divertirán hasta el agotamiento. Durante la tercera noche de conciertos, se rendirá meritorio homenaje a Adalberto Álvarez, el Caballero del Son, figura ilustre de la música y la cultura cubanas.

Aprendizaje y disfrute irán de la mano a la cintura, de la cabeza a los pies, con música a la carta. Clases, conferencias magistrales y talleres teórico-prácticos, impartidos por prestigiosos profesores del Instituto Superior de Arte, ocuparán las mañanas de los participantes. En las noches será la explosión festiva, donde pondrán en práctica todo lo aprendido, llevando a la pista de baile una experiencia musical que, sin dudas, marcará el ritmo de una feliz estancia en Cuba.

Salón Rosado de la Tropical -popularly known as the dancer's palace- is the venue for the cultural event and an open square for anyone who enjoys Cuban music. En las instalaciones turísticas cubanas y otras unidades de servicio, los precios están fijados en pesos cubanos (CUP). Se aceptan las tarjetas de crédito siempre que NO sean emitidas por bancos estadounidenses ni sus sucursales en otros países.

El visitante a nuestro país debe poseer un pasaporte vigente y la correspondiente visa o Tarjeta de Turista. Se exceptúan los países con los que Cuba mantiene convenios de libre visado. Las Tarjetas de Turista pueden solicitarse antes las representaciones consulares cubanas. También en las agencias de viajes y líneas aéreas.

Al llegar a la aduana, se entiende por turista aquella persona no residente permanentemente en el país, independientemente de su nacionalidad, que entre al mismo por razones de placer, negocio, salud, deporte, por un período mayor de 24 horas y menor de 6 meses.

Los turistas podrán importar sus efectos personales, los que entran al país como una admisión temporal; libres del pago de derecho de aduanas y deben ser reexportados a su salida.

EL TURISTA PUEDE EXPORTAR:

Hasta veinte (20) unidades de tabaco torcido sueltos, sin necesidad de presentar ningún documento. Hasta cincuenta ( 50) unidades de tabaco torcido, con la condición que estén contenidos en el envases originales, cerrado, sellado y con el holograma oficial establecido, exigencias sin las cuales no se autoriza la exportación.

Cantidad en exceso de cincuenta (50) unidades de tabaco torcido, las cuales no pueden exceder el valor de los 5,000.00 CUC, deben presentar la factura de venta oficial expedida por la red de tiendas autorizadas a comercializar tabacos torcidos cubanos, correspondiente a todo el tabaco torcido que intenten extraer y que necesariamente tiene que estar contenidos en envases originales, cerrados y sellados y con el holograma oficial establecido.

Las cantidades de tabaco torcido en exceso de las cincuentas (50) unidades que no sea declarado por el viajero y cualquier cantidad que exceda lo declarado, o que habiéndose declarado no se acredite su adquisición lícita mediante la factura de venta oficial o los envases no posean los atributos y demás exigencias que lo identifican como tabaco torcido cubano, dará lugar al decomiso.

De igual forma podrá llevar hasta 3 botellas de licor y 200 cigarrillos, souvenirs o recuerdos de su estancia en el país.
