Fra statuttene / From the statutes: Den Norske Fredsfilmprisen/Norwegian Peace Film Award (NoFPA) skal gis til en film som setter søkelys på direkte, strukturell eller kulturell vold, og på en kreativ og kunstnerisk måte bidrar til forebygging eller reduksjon av vold/krig. The Norwegian Peace Film Award (NoFPA) is given to a film spotlighting direct, structural or cultural violence, and which in a creative, artistic way contributes to the prevention or reduction of violence/war. Film har en enorm kraft. Som oftest diskuteres dette som et samfunnsproblem. Vi ønsker å fokusere på filmens positive kraft. Vårt engasjement for filmen og fortellingen er genuint konstruktivt og positivt. Vi tror på fortellingens styrke. Vi tror at filmene vi viser spiller en rolle, at de påvirker, at de formidler kunnskap, positive holdninger til fremmede kulturer og fremmede retninger innenfor vår egen kultur. Vi tror på filmer som har ambisjoner om å formidle tanker om en bedre verden, filmer som tør reise seg opp og rope ut sin urett, filmer som konfronterer maktstrukturer og undertrykkingsmekanismer i verdenssamfunnet. Derfor har vi sammen med Centre for Peace Studies (CPS) ved Universitetet i Tromsø og Studentnettverk for Fred (SNF), opprettet Fredsfilmprisfondet og innstiftet ”Den Norske Fredsfilmprisen”. Fordi vi tror på det! Film has enormous power. Most often this is regarded as a problem for society. We want to focus on the positive power of storytelling in films. Our involvment in film and storytelling is genuinely constructive and positive. We believe in the power of a story. We think that the films we screen at the festival do matter, that they have an influence, that they impart knowledge, positive attitudes towards foreign cultures and lesser-known aspects of our own culture. We believe in films that have ambitions to contribute to the expression of thoughts of a better world, films that dare stand up and cry out about abuse, films that confront power structures and oppression mechanisms in the global society. This is the reason why we, together with Centre for Peace Studies (CPS) at the University of Tromsø and Student Network for Peace (SNP), have established the Peace Film Award Fund and ”The Norwegian Peace Film Award”.
