TVIBIT - A CULTURAL CENTRE FOR YOUTH

The youth centre Tvibit opened on June 8, 2000. The house is mainly a cultural centre for youth between the ages of 15 and 25. Tvibit also has an information centre for youth. Tvibit works with youth from a cultural perspective. We see youth as a resource with a lot to contribute to others and to the city in which they live. We are also convinced that the effect the young people themselves get from working on interesting projects and culture is positive. The Tvibit philosophy is based on participation and project oriented work. The youth are part of the decision-making process, and they carry out much of what goes on in the house themselves. They are encouraged to realize their own ideas and bring them to life. Adults are not allowed to control the house without input from the youth, nor are they to help them excessively. They are active and learn to be independent human beings.

THE FILM HOUSE TVIBIT

January 2003, the film house Tvibit opened in brand new offices. It is a place for production of youth’s own movies. Here you can come with your cool and crazy ideas, book cameras and get information about how to get started. During the year, people pop in with their school projects, their documentaries, fiction films or TV-series. We also provide a cultural offer to schools. The film house Tvibit will participate in the creation of Tromsø Film City, by helping the young, aspiring filmmakers and by being a place of production where one can make one’s movie from the idea stage to the finished product. During Tromsø International Film Festival 2004, Tvibit will present its new project; Filmfangst. Thursday January 15th a screenwriting-workshop will be held with the screenwriter and director Michael W. Horsten from Denmark.

Dokumentar, 18 min. Regi: Magne Pettersen.

FILMFANGST

Tvibit is going to make the first talent/youth film from Northern Norway. We’ve seen an explosion within the film media over the last years, as new technology has made film/video more accessible. With this project we want to be a part of the first feature film made by youth with a focus on Northern Norway and the new stories from the region. Through this project we want be a part of the making of a new Northern-Norway and further develop a film environment in Tromsø and Northern Norway. The project is regional and includes the whole of Northern Norway. We live in a time when focus on regions has grown stronger: Tvibit already has an international network (through NYFF and TIFF). We therefore wish to contribute even more by cooperating with and developing the whole of the region. We’re doing this because we believe we are living in a fantastic part of the country, full of resources and possibilities, where we can produce our own stories. At the same time we know that culture and film have huge impact on our possibilities, choices, plans in life and conceptions. Of course we care about the past, but we wish to focus on the future we are creating now! The focus of this project is more on the process than the result. The project is going to be educational. Young people are going to learn and be inspired. Through workshops and help from professional advisors, the participating writers are going to learn how to write and develop a script. The process is aimed to result in a real shoot with a finished film as the result. Through the continuing dialogue between youth and professionals there will develop a “learning by doing”-mentality. At least three workshops in the scriptwriting-phase secure a practical reflection.

NYFF

NYFF is a festival for young filmmakers in the Nordic countries. From the 13 to the 17 of september 2004, youth from the all of the Nordic countries with an interest in film will be gathering in Tromsø for five days of watching film, seminars and workshops led by Nordic film professionals. The festival is planned and driven through by youth, and cooperates with The International Film Festival of Tromsø and TVIBIT, a local cultural house for youth about commodities and the arranging of the festival.
