Welcome to our first HR quarterly newsletter! Once again, I want to thank all of you for an amazing 2022 and getting off to a fast start in 2023. Hard to believe it is already March! Looking back, 2022 was a year of tremendous change but we achieved significant accomplishments through your resiliency, dedication, and collaboration across the dept. As a result, we are positioned to support the organization and continued growth at an even higher level this year. I continue to be blown away by the talent on this team and the ALL-IN attitude from each of you. If we execute on our core priorities and focus on culture (on our team and for the entire company), our best years are ahead of us.
I look forward to seeing you all in person later this year at our department meeting in STL. Until then, make time to build relationships with new members of team and take care of yourselves. Thank you for all you do each day to model our culture, perform at a high level, and listen to the needs of our partners and business leaders. I truly appreciate you!
Jeremy Melvin Executive VP Human Resources
The winter months can cause sleepiness that can be hard to shake during cold and dark days. According to the Sleep Foundation, sleepiness affects 10-20% of Americans. Its impacts include inability to stay alert, focus, or concentrate; increased risk-taking behaviors; slowed reaction times; difficulty making decisions; irritability; memory problems; and trouble remembering new concepts. Here are a few tips to care for your personal health and fight winter fatigue:
• Eat Right. Stick to nutritious foods and drinks instead of sugary items that only give a temporary jolt of energy.
• Get Sleep. The Sleep Foundation reports that average adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
• Exercise. Experts recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate activity per week.
• Reduce Stress. Consider meditation, yoga or other stress reducing activities.
• Feel the Sunshine. Thanks to winter's shorter and darker days, your body releases an increase of melatonin causing an imbalance in your body's circadian rhythm, or natural 24-hour body clock. Brighten or dim lights accordingly to help you stay awake during the day and sleep at night.

Genuine Partner Moments are changing! We are going to be making Genuine Partner Moments available throughout the year and using our HR Newsletter and Calls to highlight some of the big and small moments.
Going forward, you will use Praise via the Microsoft Teams Page to send genuine appreciation to our HR partners across the country. Please see the guide on this page on how to use Genuine Partner Moments via Teams:

Step 1: Make sure you have access to Genuine Partner Moments under the Human Resources Teams Page:
Step 2: Click start New Conversation. If the ribbon circled below doesn’t show up, click the 3 little dots to get it to show. If you have somebody you want to give a shout out to, click the ribbon below and it will bring up the Send Praise box.

Step 5: KEEP THE GENUINE PARTNER MOMENTS
GOING ALL YEAR LONG!
Organizational Development kicked off 2023 by wrapping up our twelve EMC Year in Review Webinars that brought in over 1,100 participants! Reminder to enter your goals and priorities for 2023 in SuccessFactors if not yet complete.
As we continue to look ahead, we’re already off to a great start with the completion of 30 engagements which includes one NEO session with 84 attendees. We have 8 more NEO sessions slated for the year over the course of four weeks held between both St. Louis and Dallas. The next two sessions will be held the week of March 27 in St. Louis.
As we look back at National L&D in 2022, a major highlight was our successful partnership with the regions to launch the redesign of Management 101. The results have been very impressive, and the regions have done an outstanding job developing Managers with this program. In addition to Management 101, new solutions are rolling out to support our ever expanding need to increase MEP capabilities with three different solutions, MEP Estimator Training, MEP Coordinator Training, & Advanced MEP Pilot – Commissioning.
A huge lift for L&D was the “Mitigating Legal Risk” series of online courses. Working with Legal, this series of nine online courses addresses the highest frequency of legal risk, as identified by a Legal Task Force Team.
Another impactful initiative began in January 2022 with the National L&D team partnering with Kelly Keegan, Matt McMullan, and Southwest Sr. L&D Manager, Jamie Clapp to create a RE Talent Development Training Program. The multi-part and multilevel program was launched in July 2022 and multiple sessions have been conducted with the most recent session in January 2023. This program positively impacted the RE Team and we are currently in the process of collecting additional metrics to measure outcomes.
Looking ahead, we’re very excited to launch our Emerging Leadership Program. This program has been designed over the last year and each cohort of 25 will meet over the course of seven months. This program fills a gap between FOL (Foundations of Leadership) and ALP (Advanced Leadership Program) for leaders that are not quite at the Director level yet. Invitations went out on February 9, 2023, to participants and will launch with a program kick-off call on March 1.
The PE & PM Skills Development Program will rollout by the end of Q1. These solutions provide training and development in the core areas shown on the PE and PM job descriptions. Managers will work with the learners to identify a few areas to become proficient and will leverage the learning available here.
A big Congratulations to PJ, Richard, & Andrea who were all certified in MBTI and DDI in 2022 & early 2023.
A few members of the L&D Team attended the Training 2023 Conference & Expo and Training APEX Awards gala in Orlando. McCarthy has attended the conference and Awards Gala for many years as McCarthy is a member of the Training Top 10 Hall of Fame. As a Hall of Fame company, we score the award applications and Robin Renschen announced several winners at the gala. During the concurrent conference, the team learned about new and innovative trends and technologies and even had dinner with the keynote speaker Temple Grandin.

Launched a leaders acceleration event and mentor program – this is a HiPo (high potential) program and currently has about 18 mentees.
McCarthy’s Renewable Energy teams’ commitment to recruiting top talent has resulted in a partnership with Hire Our Heroes (HOH), a platform providing bestin-class workforce development programs that place highly skilled and educated transitioning service members, veterans, military spouses, and military caregivers with employers committed to hiring them. The HOH program is a twelve-week internship that allows Fellows the opportunity to experience firsthand what working in the civilian workforce will take. The program hosts three Cohorts annually, graduating approximately 2500 members per year. Most members have extensive leadership and team-building experience, are flexible and willing to learn, and hold at least a 4-yr degree, resulting in greater than 80% of graduates receiving job placement offers. This is a DoD-sponsored 12-week program at no cost to McCarthy, as the military continues to pay the servicemember throughout the internship.
In October 2022, a small team consisting of Steve Manning, Aspen Doran, Anthony Pickens, and Maddison Crowley began the interview process with a goal of hosting up to five fellows for the first Cohort of 2023. After a thorough screening and interview process, offers were submitted to candidates across the nation, resulting in the placement of three service members into McCarthy’s inaugural fellowship program. Jeffery Yin, Kevin Jordan, and Eric Rodsa are currently completing their fellowships with the Operations/Maintenance and Design teams and will graduate the program March 30th. We would like to send a special thank you to Mark Skidmore, Lisa Stein, and Zach Nichols for their involvement in hosting our fellows! If you would like to host a fellow for the next Cohort beginning in May, or would like additional information, please contact one of our partners listed above.
Eric Rodsa testimonial: “McCarthy is one of 100 different partners that is a part of the Hiring Our Heroes initiative. I connected with 22 companies and had 43 interviews in a 7-week period before deciding to accept an internship with McCarthy Building Company. Steve Manning and Aspen Doran were absolute rockstars during the interview process and portrayed McCarthy in a great light. I sensed the McCarthy culture and renewables initiative resonated perfectly with my goals and ambitions as I transitioned out of the military. The past month has been a great experience and I am incredibly thankful to Zachary Nichols for giving me a chance to intern with his renewables team!”
