A multi-generational family! By Ian Robertson Alumni Manager
Betty Crozier (Lawrence, Class of 1938) started at Korowa as a five-year-old in 1926 and left after completing Leaving Honours (Year 12) in 1938. Betty was a Prefect in her final year. She is our oldest Korovian having turned 99 in September 2020. Betty’s memories of Korowa include girls riding their horses to school and the excitement of the flooding of Gardiners Creek! Little did Betty know entering Korowa in Kindergarten in 1926 that this would start a remarkable multi-generational connection with the School.
Betty and Rex sent their four daughters to Korowa – Elizabeth Kirkby (Crozier, Class of 1968), Pamela Rowler (Crozier, Class of 1970), Jennifer Stubbs (Crozier, Class of 1972, House Captain of Wilkinson) and Robyn Crozier (Class of 1975, House Captain of Wilkinson). All of them completed their entire schooling at Korowa. Elizabeth subsequently sent her daughter, Katherine Jackson (Kirkby, Class of 1994) to Korowa who also did her entire schooling at Korowa. There are a large number of current students in the School who, like the Croziers, are multi-generational and these family connections are both a point of continuity and a source of great pride. With thanks to Robyn Crozier for providing the family tree!
Betty’s future husband, Rex Crozier lived in Dorrington Avenue, Glen Iris and attended Malvern Grammar (now Caulfield Grammar) and his sisters attended Korowa – Dorothy Crozier (Class of 1935), Hazel Bottomley (Crozier, Class of 1937, House Captain of Clarke) and Felice Blake (Crozier, Class of 1939). Rex’s cousins Phyllis Bowering (Crozier, Class of 1933) and Heather Tayler (Crozier, Class of 1938) also attended Korowa. Both Dorothy Crozier and Phyllis Bowering (Crozier) were each Dux of the School and Phyllis was also Head Prefect and House Captain of Clarke. Heather Tayler’s two daughters also attended Korowa, Louise Browne (Tayler, Class of 1967) and Rosalind Langley (Tayler, Class of 1969). Betty Crozier with her children.
