Horrible Bowls Etiquette

H

ere are some more ways you can deliberately upset your opposition with a bit of gamesmanship which is the art of winning without actually cheating. If it's applied against you it’s dirty play; the other way round, it’s clever psychology. Here are some suggestions: Obscure the peg Stand in front of the peg. A number of bowlers use the peg to get their line. A variation on this is to surreptitiously move the peg or the marker being used by your opponent. Foot faults As your opponent is about to bowl remind him of the foot fault rules to make him aware that you’re watching his feet and put him off. Talk to the opposition’s bowls Shout or laugh at your opponent’s bowls. Comments such as “miss everything” or “no wicks", are particularly useful. If you get a lucky wick claim that it was deliberate. If your opponent gets a wick describe it as lucky. Argue and kick Argue vehemently about the number of bowls removed from the head during measuring. Kick counted bowls away so that there’s additional confusion. Deride the opposition if they put down a duster for placing counted bowls.
