Outreach Raymond Reed Classic The Raymond Reed Classic, sponsored by Grace Health, was held on March 6th , 2021 at South Laurel High School. This tournament included four competitive games between eight different local teams. Bell Co., Whitley Co., Russell Co., Jackson Co., South Laurel, Knox Central, Harlan Co., and Montgomery Co. all participated in the event. Grace Health's outreach team used the games to connect with the public, hoping to make high quality health care access available for everyone. As part of this effort, the outreach team gave out free items at the booth for the fans. More importantly, the outreach team was able to give out information to individuals about who Grace Health is and share the values and mission of Grace Health. Mike Wynn, one of our Community Outreach & Enrollment Specialists, hopped on air with WYMT’s Eugene Farmer to talk about the Grace Health Raymond Reed Classic and our expanding role in Laurel County. Mike was able to highlight the Mountain View Clinic / Pharmacy and the opening of the NEW Levi Center Clinic!
In the first game matchup between Bell Co. and Whitley Co., Bell Co. came out on top by defeating the Colonels 60-41. Russell County defeated Jackson County 73-48 in the 2nd game of the evening while South Laurel beat Knox County 67-58 in the following game. To end the night, a very exciting game between Harlan County and Montgomery Co went into overtime with Harlan County coming out with the win 69-68. This event was in honor of both Raymond Reed and his son Darin Reed. Raymond Reed, who passed away in April 2016, helped lead the Laurel County High School boys' basketball teams to numerous 12th Region titles and Sweet Sixteen appearances. His son Darin, who passed away in August of 2019, was an assistant coach on both the girls and boys basketball teams at South Laurel High School. We’re proud to be the sponsor of this amazing event and great day of area basketball games!
