A LETTER FROM THE CEO
Dear Grace Health Team and Community,
As we conclude the second quarter, I would like to express my gratitude to each of you for the exceptional work you do every day
This spring, we celebrated our newest Grace University graduates during the April Pinning Ceremony an inspiring reminder of how investing in our people strengthens our mission. We also welcomed two new providers to our team: Dr. Eman Hawass, a dentist, and Amanda Gaudet, APRN, with Medical Campus Pediatrics, along with 19 new support staff members.
In June, our Manchester Clinic hosted its inaugural dental treatment event for justice-involved individuals, made possible by a new grant from the HRSA This is a big step forward in expanding access to care for vulnerable populations
The highlight of the quarter was our Operational Site Visit, where we received a strong report Thank you to all who helped showcase the excellence of Grace Health.
We also saw the strength of our team in the aftermath of the May tornado in Laurel County. One story stands out: Maranda Portwood, a peer support specialist within our Substance Abuse Recovery program, supported a patient who lost everything, helping ensure continued care and support after the storm Her compassion reflects the heart of Grace Health
Thank you for being part of this mission. Your dedication makes all the difference.

HEALTHY PEOPLE, HEALTHY COMMUNITIES

This quarter, Grace Health made meaningful strides in advancing our vision of Healthy People, Healthy Communities We celebrated the achievements of our newest Grace University graduates, welcomed skilled new providers and staff to our team, and earned a strong report during our Operational Site Visit all reflecting our deep commitment to quality, growth, and excellence
Through a new HRSA grant, we expanded access to dental care for justice-involved individuals, holding our first treatment event in June at the Manchester Clinic And when a devastating tornado struck Laurel County in May, Grace Health teams across the region mobilized quickly to provide care, support, and hope demonstrating the heart of our mission in action
Inside this issue, you'll find stories that show how every role, every program, and every act of service brings us one step closer to a healthier future for the people and communities we serve
Thank you for joining us for this edition of the Grace Health newsletter As we reflect on the second quarter of 2025, I’m reminded of how much can happen in just a few short months and how much heart our team brings to every challenge and celebration.
This issue highlights some incredible moments: our Grace University pinning ceremony, the addition of two outstanding new providers and 19 support staff, a new HRSA grant to expand care for justice-involved individuals, and a strong outcome from our recent Operational Site Visit. These are major milestones, and each one reflects the dedication, teamwork, and compassion that define what we are
But perhaps the most powerful reminder of our mission came in the aftermath of the tornado that struck Laurel County in May. Stories like that of peer support specialist Maranda Portwood who stepped in to support a patient who lost everything are what truly set Grace Health apart We don’t just provide care we show up, stand beside, and serve with purpose.
I hope this issue leaves you feeling proud to be part of something meaningful Every story here is a reflection of the impact we make together
“I look forward to continuing to support o mission from a different perspective. I’m excit about this next chapter and the opportunity continue contributing to both the Dent Department and Grace Health in new ways

OSV SITE VISIT
GraceHealthShinesinRecentHRSA OperationalSiteVisit

We’re excited to share some great news Grace Health recently completed our Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Operational Site Visit (OSV) in April 2024 and received outstanding results!
As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we undergo this vital review every three years It’s designed to ensure that we are meeting the rules and guidelines of the Health Center Program, which helps us continue to provide high-quality care to the people we serve
The visit is based on the HRSA Compliance Manual, which includes 93 areas across 20 chapters. These areas cover everything from patient services and financial systems to board governance and staffing. The site visit team uses a special checklist called the Site Visit Protocol (SVP) to ensure everything is reviewed fairly and clearly.
We proudly report that Grace Health had minimal findings and recommendations. This incredible outcome shows the extraordinary work being done daily across our entire organization.
During the visit, the HRSA team may also share helpful suggestions or tips on ways to improve, even if those suggestions aren’t part of the official review These ideas help us grow and continue doing even better in the future
This was a big project, and we are especially thankful to our OSV preparation team, who worked hard to gather all the needed information and documents to show what makes Grace Health so strong.
Thank you to Amanda Polly, our Project Manager, for leading the effort. Her organization, dedication, and leadership made a big difference; we are so thankful for all she did.
A special thank you goes to Amanda Polly, our Project Manager, whose leadership and attention to detail played a pivotal role in this success. Her coordination efforts ensured we stayed on track and represented Grace Health’s impact accurately and effectively.
Grace Health Leadership Team

Thank you to each one of our employees. Whether you were directly involved in the OSV or supported our patients and teams in other ways, this success belongs to all of us.
We will continue using the Compliance Manual and Site Visit Protocol to stay on track and improve where possible. Your hard work and dedication make Grace Health a trusted, caring place for our communities, and that’s something to be proud of

VISIBLE FROM SPACE

On May 16, 2025, an EF-4 tornado tore through southeastern Kentucky, leaving a massive scar between Somerset and London that is visible from space, as shown in a striking image captured by NASA, to the left. The storm carved a path of destruction nearly
half a mile wide in places, uprooting trees, flattening homes, and scarring the land.
This storm devastated parts of Laurel County, serving as a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of our communities, as well as the importance of compassionate care during times of crisis.
KPCA: A BEACON OF SUPPORT IN OUR TIME OF NEED
In the wake of the devastating EF4 tornado that struck our region in May, many Grace Health employees were left facing unexpected losses and hardships. During this time of uncertainty, the Kentucky Primary Care Association (KPCA) stepped in with compassion, offering swift and meaningful support to those affected.
Thanks to KPCA’s generosity, employees like Hannah Johnson, LPCC-S, and her family found hope amid devastation. “In a grievous time, KPCA was a glimmer of hope and restoration to my family,” Hannah shared “We will forever remember the impact of the storm, and we will forever remember your kindness and generosity ”
We are deeply grateful for KPCA’s ongoing partnership and the tangible support they provided to our team during such a challenging time Their support reminded us all that we are stronger together
MARANDA PORTWOOD: A LIFELINE IN THE STORM
Casey Humes, PharmD, MBA Medical Campus Pharmacist
After the fatal tornado tore through Laurel County, I witnessed a powerful example of the compassion and commitment that define Grace Health Maranda Portwood, a peer support specialist within our Substance Abuse Recovery program, consistently goes above and beyond to support those in her care One recent moment truly stood out
One of Maranda’s patients, a single mother of an 18-year-old daughter, lost everything when the tornado completely leveled their apartment in London Her daughter survived only by taking shelter in a closet with their pets moments before the storm hit
In the aftermath, this mother turned to the one person she knew she could count on Maranda She reached out just hours after the disaster, and true to her word, Maranda responded immediately. The patient shared with me that Maranda had constantly reminded her she could call any time, for any reason and in one of her darkest hours, that promise meant everything
The patient’s gratitude was deep and genuine She said she never doubted Maranda would be there for her, and she was right

This story is a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we build trust, offer compassion, and meet people where they are. Maranda’s unwavering support and dedication exemplify what it means to deliver whole-person care, and she deserves our heartfelt thanks and recognition for being a lifeline when it mattered most.

SPOTLIGHT ON WELLNESS SPOTLIGHT ON WELLNESS
August is Immunization Awareness Month, a perfect time to ensure your family is up to date on all recommended vaccinations. With recent health alerts, understanding the power of vaccines is more crucial than ever. Here's a quick FAQ to help you stay informed and protected.
Q: Why is immunization so important right now, especially in Kentucky?
A: Immunization is always vital, but it's especially critical right now. Recently, Kentucky health officials reported new measles cases, bringing the state's total for the year to six. None of these recent cases were vaccinated against measles. This situation highlights how quickly preventable diseases can spread, underscoring the importance of protecting everyone.

Q: Why should I make sure my family is up-to-date on all vaccines?

A: Vaccines are one of the safest and most effective ways to prevent serious illnesses By getting vaccinated, you're not just protecting yourself; you're also helping to create community immunity, which shields those who can't be vaccinated, such as infants or individuals with certain medical conditions Staying current on your immunizations helps keep our entire community healthier and safer
Q: Where can I find reliable information on recommended immunization schedules?
A: For comprehensive and up-to-date information on recommended childhood immunization schedules, visit HealthyChildren.org, a website from the American Academy of Pediatrics for parents. Regardless of your age, Grace Health providers across all eight locations are an excellent resource for personalized advice Call 888-883-9005 today to schedule an appointment
