Marianela PÉREZ
Marianela Pérez utilizes painting and photography to express her interpretations of the surrounding environment and her own subjectivity. Many of her works derive from photos she captures of the urban landscape and her everyday life. Her practice explores the fragmentation of forms in space and the use of color to convey emotions linked to her vital experiences as a woman and a migrant. Although she predominantly paints, she also uses different techniques such as collage, paper sculpture, and digital media. In her work, Marianela Pérez breaks down the images she captures and subtracts them into their core components―—lines, angles, and fragments of solid color. Through the process of fracturing, Pérez transforms her compositions into a harmony of lines and chromatic explosions.
Marianela Pérez utiliza la pintura y la fotografía para expresar sus interpretaciones del entorno que la rodea y de su propia subjetividad. Muchas de sus obras se derivan de fotografías que captura en el paisaje urbano y en su vida cotidiana. Su práctica explora la fragmentación de las formas en el espacio y el uso del color para transmitir emociones vinculadas a su experiencia vital como mujer y como migrante. Aunque predominantemente pinta, Marianela Pérez también utiliza diferentes técnicas como el collage, la escultura en papel y los medios digitales. En su trabajo, la artista descompone las imágenes que captura y las substrae a sus principales componentes: líneas, ángulos y fragmentos de color sólido. Si bien cada campo cromático es ejecutado casi intuitivamente, Pérez logra que las piezas encajen como en un audaz rompecabezas. En la obra titulada Mar Mediterráneo, por ejemplo, la artista usa varios tonos de azul, verde azulado y amarillo para formar una imagen cohesiva. Los colores empujan y halan el espacio del lienzo, creando un dinamismo que quizás alude a las olas o a la sensación embriagante de estar junto al océano. A través del proceso de fractura, Pérez transforma sus composiciones en una armonía de líneas y explosiones cromáticas.
