SOTO Wuilfredo

Wuilfredo Soto is a Venezuelan self-taught artist whose practice is defined by the geometric languages of kinetic art and Op-art. In his artwork, Soto challenges viewers’ perceptions through the repetition of lines and geometric forms and the incorporation of light and transparencies. The artist develops his initials sketches in digital form. Using technology to dissect shapes and volumes and create multiple layers permits him to compose and test his geometric structures, a continual process that allows him the freedom to generate new variables, combinations, and juxtapositions. Color is also a key component in all of Wuilfredo Soto’s artworks, enhancing his work’s visual effects through strong contrasts of vivid colors, black and white. The use of industrial materials such as aluminum bars, sheets of plexiglass, PVC, and acrylic paint combined with techniques such as laser cuts or high-definition printing guarantees the artist accuracy of the shapes and the spot colors―—all necessary aspects for the grammar of his work. Wuilfredo Soto believes that light, shape, and the observer can greatly affect the outcome. Operating together, these elements create captivating optical illusions that mimic movement and motion.

Wuilfredo Soto es un artista venezolano autodidacta cuya práctica está definida por los lenguajes geométricos del arte cinético y el arte óptico. En su obra, Soto desafía la percepción del espectador mediante la repetición de líneas y formas geométricas, y la incorporación de luces y transparencias. El artista desarrolla sus bocetos iniciales en formato digital. El uso de la tecnología para diseccionar formas y volúmenes y crear múltiples capas le permite componer y comprobar sus estructuras geométricas, en un proceso continuo que le da la libertad de generar nuevas variables, combinaciones y yuxtaposiciones. El color también es un componente clave en la obra de Wuilfredo Soto, con el que realza los efectos visuales de su trabajo a través de fuertes contrastes de tonos vivos, blanco y negro. El uso de materiales industriales ―—barras de aluminio, láminas de plexiglás, PVC y pintura acrílica—― combinado con técnicas como el corte con láser o la impresión de alta definición, garantizan al artista la precisión de las formas y los colores directos, aspectos necesarios para la gramática de su trabajo. Para Soto, la obra final resulta de la interacción de la luz, la forma y la visión del espectador que, al operar conjuntamente, crean cautivadoras ilusiones ópticas que simulan acción y movimiento.
