Astolfo FUNES
Venezuelan artist Astolfo Funes paints vibrant works that explore themes of femininity and “the woman.” His pieces, often painted on large canvases, feature faces or groups of women boldly confronting the viewer. They assert an air of self-confidence—―frequently lounging in various bar environments with one or many wine glasses in the background. Funes combines contrasting figurative and abstract expressionist styles to create dynamic compositions full of movement. His application of strokes, stains, drips, and even text overlap with intention and ferocity. However, the artist makes extensive use of drawing, outlining the contours of his figures or applying thick and continuous black lines which, in turn, create a striking and almost graffiti-like quality to his paintings. El artista venezolano Astolfo Funes realiza excitantes obras que exploran temas sobre la feminidad y la mujer. Sus piezas, a menudo pintadas en grandes lienzos, representan rostros o grupos de mujeres que se enfrentan con audacia al espectador. Poseen un aire de confianza en sí mismas, y con frecuencia yacen en ambientes de bares con una o varias copas de vino al fondo. Funes combina estilos figurativos y expresionistas abstractos que contrastan entre sí para crear composiciones dinámicas y llenas de movimiento. Trazos, manchas, goteos e incluso textos se superponen en estas piezas con determinación y ferocidad.
