Rider Profile: Rob Warner
ď Ž By Bob Twigg
I've been riding trials in the SM centre for a good while now, the Three Rivers Club was the cornerstone of my young trials days up at Rickmansworth on the TY80's and Whitehawk's, what a work of art they were. I didn't do that well in my schoolboy years really, possibly a bit throttle happy, but when I left school all I wanted to do was to ride Trials. I got kicked out of College and fired from the Rover car plant, which dad wasn't so happy about but I was thrilled, because I could give all my attention to my obsession and Fantic 307. I had a few good results, only ever in the mud though.I won the Knut National a couple of times, the Southern Experts Trial twice and a tenth at the Hoad British Championship. What a trial that was, all time. I got into the mountain biking in my late teens and made a living out of it for a good while, all because of the skills I had from the trials. . Despite getting paid to race bicycles it never really sat well with me, the lack of an engine was disappointing, no noise, and you had to be fit to pedal, which was something else I couldn't really get my head round. I did do well here and there if the tracks were steep enough but I always really resented mountain biking for taking me away from motorbikes. It did pay well though and I spent almost all the money I earned on woman and motorbikes. The rest I sadly wasted. Soon as I could afford a MX bike I bought one although its fair to say the motocross career didn't go well, I busted 19 bones and had about 12 surgeries fixing me to date. That said I'll still do all the British Championship Enduro's I can get to, all day on the bike like that is hard to beat.
Centre Championships

Though at present it seems any centre trials championships in 2020 will be either very short or lost completely, it is important to centre riders in all classes to keep interested please. A few years ago when I became the trials recorder for the South Midland centre I wrote to all the leading expert "contenders" asking 20
The one constant through all the two wheeled sports I've been lucky enough to do though is the Observed Motorcycle Trials. I always go back to it because nothing compares to it for a day out on the bike. I got really interested again in 2005 when I got my first 4 Stroke Honda, to learn to ride it was challenging, the Dyson's got more power than those early ones. But they're so nice to ride, and they sound absolutely incredible. Probably the most important bit. I'm not sure that any other motorcycle sport gives you that connection to the bike, I think that's probably what I love about it. And on a thoroughly wet day I'd have to travel a long way to find anything that beats a good old fashioned South Midland Centre round, lean back and open up.
how they thought the trials championships could be improved, I only received one reply unfortunately. Do riders really want to take part in any championship ? In the South Midland centre there are championships for experts, intermediates and novices. Mick Clarkson ran a British bike championship for a few years but gave it up as it seemed few
