Centre Championships

By Bob Twigg

Though at present it seems any centre trials championships in 2020 will be either very short or lost completely, it is important to centre riders in all classes to keep interested please.

A few years ago when I became the trials recorder for the South Midland centre I wrote to all the leading expert "contenders" asking how they thought the trials championships could be improved, I only received one reply unfortunately. Do riders really want to take part in any championship ?

In the South Midland centre there are championships for experts, intermediates and novices.

Mick Clarkson ran a British bike championship for a few years but gave it up as it seemed few riders were interested in it, a great shame!

The last remaining South Midland group, the Meteor Group, run series for experts, Inters' novices, British bikes (both easy and hard) and there are some nice trophies for all the classes plus a most improved Inter' cup and in 2019 a twinshock class was introduced . There are also three youth championships for A,B and C. Another nice "thing", club and club team championships.

When the sport resumes it is hoped that riders will once again be "bursting with enthusiasm" to compete in any championship, either centre or group series. If you have any preferences, and I aim this at the South Eastern and Southern centre riders as well, get in touch with your centre trials recorder and show them you are interested. Tell them what you would like to see in a trial, also what you don't like! Tell them how many rounds you think should make up a championship series. Have a "moan" if you must, but please do not mention any particular club please!

I can assure you that any trials committee will be very pleased to read your comments and I hope they will contact you about any trials matters, get keen again lads!
