VIEW Club gets first look at war memorial plans Cobar VIEW Club members welcomed John de Bruin as a guest speaker to the club’s July meeting at the Empire Hotel last week. John gave a very comprehensive report on the war memorial for Drummond Park, a project which has been in the pipeline for some time. He informed the group that a permanent record of those who lost their lives in service to their country, was coming to fruition after much consultation with defence forces regarding correct protocol and the stonemason regarding design and construction. Many hoops had to be jumped and scenarios covered to ensure that the final product was aesthetic in design, complementing the existing memorial, easily accessible and acceptable to everyone. John has been overwhelmed with the untiring research of Kay Stingemore, support of the Running on Empty community, Cobar Shire Council, local business people and the Cobar community, which has enabled this project to become a reality, with the vision of completion being Anzac Day 2024. VIEW Club president Enid English praised John for his talk and for allowing VIEW ladies the first look at the drawings and plans for the memorial.—contributed
