Golfers came out of the woodwork to play in the annual Bannister Day competition and support the Bannister family on Saturday.

There was a good roll-up of 28 men golfers on Saturday, making it one of the best represented tournaments of the year.

There was some talk last week when Greg Clark won last Saturday’s Stableford with 40 points with many saying it was just a one-off.

The scoffers were made to eat their words this Saturday as Clarkie showed he is back – in triumph, just like in the days of yore.

His score of 39 points gave him the win again this week and he beat Joe Palma, a player more in tune with ‘skins’ golf, by one shot.

Third was Brad Bannister (at least one member of the Bannister family won something) with 37 points, followed by Steve Manns 35 and Bian Smith on 34.

Nearest the Pin prizes were won by Paul Kershaw on the 3rd hole, Geoff Rorke 8th and Alec Fraser on the 15th.

Sunday’s four-ball-aggregate was also well represented with 13 players turning up.

The teaming of Peter ‘Ding’ Lawrence and Alec Fraser won by a staggering seven shots ahead of Mark Fraser and Stewart Fraser in second place.

Ding and Alec also had the two best individual scores with Ding on 38 and Alec on 34

Third place went to the two ‘lefties’, Peter ‘China’ Brien and Bill Fugar.

Scott Mayne and Paul Kershaw came 4th. Nearest the Pin prizes were won by Geoff Rorke on the 3rd hole and Joe Palma on the 8th. (The rest were not won.)

Mark ‘George’ Fraser beat Peter ‘China’ Brien in their game last week in the Bill Bartlett Match Play competition.

The Frasers are just back from following in the steps of Burke and Wills, and loaded up with fish and tall stories and it’s possibly all those fishing stories got too much for China and upset his concentration.

In the next round of the Match Play competition, George will now play Scott Mayne and Bian Smith will play Brien Obray. The winner of those two contests will play out the final.

This Saturday is the Inter Mine Golf Challenge, a three person Ambrose.

Tee-off times are between 8am and 10am. Sunday’s game is an individual Stableford. Out of Bounds
