Working with terrazzo

Cobar Shire Library

Adult Craft participants

Jenny Ilett (Library staff member Bek Donaldson), Jill Weaving, Joan Maiden and Julianne Foster drying off their terrazzo trays on Saturday at the Library. Participants were shown how to make a terazzo tray using a moulding process where they made their own terazzo colour chips and then set them in a jesmonite mould. When dry, the crafters were then going to sand their trays back to reveal their unique, beautiful patterns.

Cobar Girl Guides are back at work sorting and packing bottles and cans for the Rotary Club of Cobar’s recycling program. Ryan Jiang gave his sister Queena and fellow Girl Guides Taylah and Hayley Wyllie a hand on Saturday with the group sorting 3,190 containers for Return and Earn. Rotary uses the profits from Return and Earn to help support local community groups, including the Girl Guides. ▪ Photo contributed

• Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Lindsay Shanahan who passed away recently.

• There was a good turn out at the Youthie on Monday afternoon for a free first aid session for kids. Workplace training company, SiteTrain, who are regular visitors to Cobar, facilitated the training. They did a session for the Girl Guides last year and the guides decided they would open up this year’s session to other kids as well.

• We were chatting with a local bloke the other day who impressed us with his recollection of the wedding anniversary of a couple of his friends. When queried how he easily recalled the month and year they were married, he confessed it was the same week he got his dog!

• We hear the Cobar Public School Year 1 and Year 2 students recently flew to their Country of Study, Denmark! The school took care of organising their passports and boarding passes and even some of the teachers doubled up as flight crew on their virtual trip. Adding to the whole experience was that the kids could really feel like they were landing at Copenhagen airport as they watched footage from a camera mounted on a real plane making a landing. It was a shame to hear that Mrs Lennon missed the return flight and is still looking for her luggage! What a great virtual experience for the kids. Well done CPS staff!
