Battle of the birds ends in 30-all draw

A 30 all draw with the Baradine Magpies at Baradine on Saturday has caused the Cobar Roosters First Graders to drop a spot on the Christie & Hood Castlereagh compe-

After their big Round 10 win last week over Coonamble, the Roosters were sitting pretty in second spot on the table behind Gulgong.

Shock loss for the Roosterettes

The Roosterettes scored a shock loss at Baradine on Saturday going down to their 16 in their Christie & Hood Castlereagh Round 11 League Tag game.

The Roosterettes were hard pressed to tag the young, fast home side with two of their players, Savannah Carey and Anna Arndell, scoring

Brianna Watson, Zoë Egan and Neve Carter scored a try each for Cobar.

Carter was best on field for the Roosterettes recording multiple line breaks which helped her Player title.

The Roosterettes did go close to scoring two other tries with Hannah Carroll taking off for the line after an intercept but her pass off went to ground and Molly Carter, who scored her first try of the season last week, went close to scoring her second on Saturday but was tagged before she could get the ball down.

The loss to Baradine hasn’t however hurt the Roosterettes’ standings on the competition ladder as they still hold on to third place with Baradine behind in 4th spot.

However their drawn result on Saturday (combined with Dunedoo’s Round 11 win over Coonabarabran) sees Cobar drop to third spot behind Dunedoo.

Captain/coach Thomas Plater led the scoring for the Roosters in Saturday’s Round 11 game at Baradine crossing twice.

Ben Griffiths, Gerald Mackay, Tim Hillam, and Zane Taylor also scored tries for Cobar with Griffiths kicking three goals.

The Roosters have a chance to improve their standing on the ladder this week when they take on Dunedoo Swans in the match of the round at Dunedoo’s Robertson Oval.

The Round 12 game is expected to be an epic battle and the Roosters will be looking to take back second spot with a win over the Swans.
