Carpark clearing completed
Work began last week on clearing the proposed car parking area on the eastern entrance to town adjacent to the Cobar Miners Memorial park. Cobar Shire Council’s cadet engineer Reba Nicholson is in charge of the project and reports a boundary survey has been carried out to delineate land lots and an arborist, along with a local contractor, carried out the vegetation removal last week. “The works have been a point of discussion at council for quiet some time to accommodate for the need of travellers coming through town and look at alternative areas,” Reba said. The project was not allocated for in council’s budget and council is currently looking for grant funding to complete the project. The car park won’t be ready for next month’s expected influx of caravanners.

Two reservoirs are nearing completion
Bogan Shire Council has this week announced the NSW Government has completed the works to lay a geo synthetic lining in two water reservoirs being constructed in Nyngan which will store around 1,300 megalitres of water for Nyngan and Cobar. “The first reservoir is now full of water and contractors are finishing construction on the second dam,” Bogan Shire has reported on social media. “The storages form part of the NSW Government’s Nyngan Cobar Water Security Project which aims to drought proof water supplies for the two communities. “Nyngan and Cobar’s town water supply comes from a weir in the Bogan River which is topped up from the Macquarie River via the Albert Priest Channel when flows are low. “The dams will provide an important backup water supply for the towns which are some of the driest locations in the state.” Water Infrastructure NSW has developed a final business case for a proposed pipeline and pump stations between Nyngan and Cobar. The project aims to upgrade the existing pipeline and pumping infrastructure to provide long-term water supply reliability for the region. The business case involves a range of technical, environmental, cultural heritage and economic studies as well as comprehensive engagement with stakeholders and community members.
