Dear Szitizen Friends!

Sziget was born 30 years ago. It was a place that heralded the joy of being together, where we were able to live without obligations, in freedom, happily and in cultural diversity. We believed that peace and freedom, love and friendship, equality and acceptance of each other are fundamental values that become a reality the moment we cross the bridge that leads onto Sziget. We believed these values should be intrinsic in every part of the world, and that creating Sziget was already a great step in the right direction.

However, we quickly came to the realization that it is not enough to hope that values are upheld and to believe that these are understood all over the world, but to speak out in their defence.

The Island of Freedom is now created by Szitizens arriving from almost every country in the world. This is a strong community that is united by shared values and made vibrant by all its diversity. It is a “dream state” of Szitizens who speak a language that is without exclusion, hate, discrimination and unacceptable ideas. A place that not only puts faith in its values through its mere existence, but also through the fact that, together with you – and speaking the same language – we proclaim them to every corner of the globe.

We are thrilled to be together once again. Be happy, love each other and enjoy the freedom of being here!

Dear Visitors!

Budapest is a colourful, open-minded and inclusive city. We preserve our traditions and are also curious about new things. Sziget Festival is the embodiment of diversity and tradition that presents something new, fresh and exciting every year.

The festival itself is a symbol. This is an island of peace, love and friendship with great music and amazing parties, where our visitors from countless countries and Hungarian festival-goers can share in the party at this culturally unique phenomenon.

I am sure everyone will go home with unforgettable experiences! Enjoy yourselves in Budapest, love and take care of our wonderful city!

Dear Visitors!

The festival on Óbuda Island has been with us for thirty years. During this time, Sziget Festival has grown from the Student Island into one of the most recognized musical and cultural events in Europe, and in fact, in the world.

One thing has not changed over the years: our love of freedom, the fact that we can be happy for each other, that we intrigue one another. This was with us thirty years ago, it is with us now, and it will remain with us for the years to come.

That is why we, the third district, are proud to host this three-decade-old festival.

If you have time between the concerts and the varied assortment of programs, take a look around in Óbuda-Békásmegyer, we look forward to seeing you!

BUDAPEST IS 150.

AND SHE’S ALL ABOUT CONNECTIONS.

Welcome to Budapest!

Did you know it hasn’t always been Budapest?

150 years ago three cities stood here.

Then we understood how important connections are. So we built a bridge, the Chain Bridge.

Instantly, people from Pest started connecting with people from Buda. And we saw that this was going to work. In 1873, we connected Pest, Buda and Óbuda to have a proper capital. This was the birth of a metropolis. But we didn’t stop there. Since then we’ve shared traditions, ideas, news, trends, and of course: food.

Just like we do at Sziget festival. Enjoy the festival, then go and explore the 150-year-old Budapest!

What is taming? It is actually the establishment of a link, and this is something that is often forgotten. They meet, they observe each other, they are afraid, they get closer

A castell is a human tower traditionally built at festivals in Catalonia, Spain, that has its origins back in the 19th century. These amazing constructions are about values like cooperation, convergence and care. In Catalonia, there are many groups who are actively part of this tradition, which was awarded the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity designation by UNESCO in 2010.
