The community of Sziget was founded 26 years ago based on the idea of creating a temporary “dream nation”, celebrating and sharing the best from cultures and people from Europe. We believe that everyone’s individual freedom should be respected and everyone should have the right to the freedom of thought and lifestyle, sexual orientation, religion, speech, and the right to equal knowledge and learning as well as the freedom of assembly.

Although Sziget itself is a “big Love Revolution”, various program venues address different aspects of the message. One of the most spectacular programs this year will be from the Wired Aerial Theatre, a company from the UK, which will bring this year’s Giant Street Theatre show. Their show is a real “action movie” in the air, highlighting the importance of environmental awareness. The programs of Tent Without Borders, Magic Mirror or the brand new venue called Caravan Tent will focus on tolerance, inclusion and diversity.

You can make tools out of recycled materials at the Art Zone, so you know how to aim for an environmentally friendly lifestyle and the reduction of your ecological footprint. The renewed NGO Island will host causes that we believe make our planet a better place.

For the very first time, this year we introduce the system of re-usable cups, with which all of you can support Superar’s Music 4 All program, where we support the integration of underprivileged and refugee children with the help of music and singing together.

Sziget Festival, one of Europe’s largest music and cultural events, will be organized at Óbuda Island for the 26th time. Budapest is thrilling at any time of the year, but it is the most vibrant during summer. Sziget Festival attracts tourists to the Hungarian capital from all around the world, who come in droves and make this colourful metropolis even more bustling.

There are few things more refreshing in the intense heat than swimming a little and cooling off in the shade, and the Hungarian capital offers the perfect spots for this! Budapest is the capital of baths – it is deservedly famous for its swimming pools, lidos and spas, where everyone can find what they are looking for.

If you are in the mood for a huge theme park, you can visit the water kingdom of Aquaworld, where the adrenalin-pumping giant slides, a surf pool and a wave pool will certainly keep you entertained. If you would rather travel back to the old days, you should buy a ticket to St. Lukács Thermal Bath and Swimming Pool. If you prefer other forms of relaxation, you can choose from countless authentic baths and exciting lidos.

If you wish to recharge your batteries with a little sightseeing, but your feet are tired from all the partying, just hop on the Castle bus, which will take you to the hidden nooks and crannies of the romantic streets of Buda. If you feel like, you can interrupt your trip at the top of the city at the Fishermen’s Bastion and enjoy the view! You can hop on and off again twice after your first trip! Tuk-tuks, which offer several different routes, are also perfect for a comfortable sightseeing tour.

I would like to warmly welcome you to Sziget Festival, one of the most popular events in Óbuda. Most people from Budapest know this place very well, mostly as a district full of life before and after the festival, a great place for dog walkers, runners and families. But many don’t know that the exact island, where all of you enjoy the music now, was the home of Roman citizens and soldiers in the ancient times. Under your feet there are the stones of the Palace of Hadrian, built in the 2nd century by the governor of Aquincum.

I hope you will have time to leave the island for one or two hours and discover Fő tér (Main square), and check out the museums and cafés of the district. If you decide to enjoy a great local meal in one of the restaurants of inner Óbuda, you will definitely understand why we spend most of our time here, why we love Buda and why we hold to the 3rd district.

In the name of the people living here, I would like to wish you a great time, unforgettable moments and fantastic parties! We believe that our famous writer from Óbuda, Gyula Krúdy, was right when he said: “When guests start to come once, they will come afterwards as well.”

Street or the centrally located Erzsébet Square. Akvárium Klub, one of the most significant multi-art centres in Budapest can be found here, among others. As soon as good weather arrives, the square that surrounds the club is overrun by young people sitting in the grass, drinking spritzer or playing the guitar.

Lately, the Hungarian capital has been dominantly putting itself on the European gastronomy map. In addition to the wide variety of street-food, hungry wanderers can also buy high-quality dishes of Hungarian cuisine at very attractive prices. DAVE THOMPSON (UK) Hosting Sziget Comedy for the third year, Dave is a reincarnation of Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Yakbim Sekhaenre’s court jester Djedptahaufankh. He entertained the Pharaoh for 24 years. In 1779 BC, he misjudged a joke about the Pharaoh’s daughter, and was ritually disemboweled. Since then Dave has been reincarnated as Napoleon Bonaparte, a squirrel, and the Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

After his first English performance video went viral, he was featured in the ‘Laughs in Translation’ documentary about Comedy, as the German representative. He’s known for his dry observational humor, and surprising improvisational skills.

ALAN FRANCIS (UK) Alan is a regular on the UK and International Comedy Circuit, and has performed his stand-up acts on TV many times. Alan also has a successful theatrical career, working in London’s West End at The Royal Court, The National Theatre, and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

He had his own comedy series on BBC Radio 4.

13 AUGUST, MONDAY ADAM BLOOM (UK) He’s one of Britain’s most exciting stand-up comedians. He has performed seven sold-out solo runs at The Edinburgh Festival.

Adam wrote and performed three series of ‘The Problem with Adam Bloom’ for BBC Radio 4, and has written material for over 40 other comedians, making him one of Britain’s most prolific comedy writers.

PAUL FOOT (UK) He was born at an early age. Initially, he was unable to fend for himself. Luckily, a kind lady and gentleman took him home from the hospital. His mother taught him to speak nicely about the weather. His dad baked pie. Paul became a teenager, and decided to have a go at stand-up comedy in a little bar. Amazingly, it went well.

Candy Chang (TWN), well-known designer and artist, is working with her colleague to inspire the city and its surroundings to dream and to express more emotions, to wake the society to think more and to give more opportunity to people to share their desires, hopes, fears and stories. This interactive open artistic project awaits Szitizens, who are welcome to share their thoughts and inspired to seek new ones.

The organizers are preparing an exciting video project as well, in which Szitizens can participate by leaving a 10 seconds video message about their dreams and plans.

These messages will be screened after the venue is closed, so the written and told confessions will address the world together.

Are you ready to do some sports? Come and try out the artificial turf football field, two beach volleyball courts, streetball, frisbee, petanque, badminton and table tennis! We also organize street workouts twice a day!

These street workout tools are available any time of the day.

If you would rather do some sports with a beer in your hand, then look for the table football or darts! Sport equipment can be hired at the venue throughout the day for free, but make sure to bring an ID.
