Kotor a hegyek és a tenger közé „horgonyzott” le, s a magas, vad sáncok fátyla mögé bújva hódította meg az emberek kegyeit. Az örökké fejlődő sziklaszirtek, s az öreg erdő, amelyek „letekintenek” az öbölre, bástyát jelentenek Kotornak. Kotor öreg belvárosa. Ez a Kotori-öböl leghíresebb része, ahol tetten érhető a város jól megőrzött történelme, kultúrája, s tradíciói. Egymást érik itt a középkori épületek, a katedrálisok, templomok, paloták, múzeumok. Keskeny kis utcák, hangulatos terek, s a piac is fantasztikus hangulatot árasztanak. Lehet fotózni a régi gazdag családok szépen kivitelezett házait, kapuit, a lépcsősorokat… A mediterrán világ leginkább és legjobban megóvott városa ez. A leglátványosabb talán a város déli bástyája, amely 5 km hosszú, 20 méter magas és 10 méter széles. Kotor has dropped an anchor between the gray mountains and the sea, and veiled its life behind the high and wide ramparts.
