CROSS TRAIL BEZEICHNET DIE SCHNELLE BEWEGUNG AM BERG – meist als Mischung aus temporeichem Wandern und Laufen. Die Touren finden in technisch anspruchsvollem und oft steinigem Gelände statt. Bestens dafür geeignet sind Wanderwege, bei denen einige Höhenmeter zu überwinden sind. Da beim Cross Trail das Bergaufgehen im Vordergrund steht, sind Touren in Seilbahn-Nähe bestens für diese Sportart geeignet. So kann der Abstieg bequem und gelenkschonend mit der Bahn erfolgen.

Ausgangspunkte der Routen sind sowohl die Talstationen der Bergbahnen als auch Bushaltestellen. Somit können alle Cross Trail Strecken im Paznaun umweltfreundlich erreicht werden.

CROSS TRAIL IS THE FAST MOVEMENT ON THE MOUNTAIN – usually a mixture of fast-paced hiking and running. The tours take place in technically demanding and often stony terrain. Hiking trails with a few metres of altitude to climb are ideally suited for this. Since the focus of Cross Trails is on going uphill, tours near cable cars are ideally suited for this sport. This means that the descent can be made comfortably by cable car, which is easy on the joints.

The starting points of the routes are both the valley stations of the cable cars and bus stops. This means that all Cross Trail routes in Paznaun can be reached in an environmentally friendly way.

DIE GEOLOGISCHE ENTSTEHUNG DES PAZNAUNS Das Paznaun liegt in den Zentralen Ostalpen und gehört zur geologischen Einheit der Silvretta-Decke. Diese Decke besteht aus Gesteinen, die vor Millionen von Jahren durch die Kollision der afrikanischen und europäischen Kontinentalplatten entstanden sind. Während dieser Kollision wurden die Gesteine gefaltet und verformt, was zu den charakteristischen Gebirgsformationen im Paznaun führte.

Die dominierenden Gesteine im Paznaun sind Schiefer, Quarzite und Kalksteine. Schiefergesteine, die aus Ton- und Schluffsedimenten entstanden sind, sind weit verbreitet und prägen die Hänge und Berge der Region. Quarzite, die aus metamorphisiertem Sandstein hervorgegangen sind, bilden robuste und widerstandsfähige Felsformationen.

Kalksteine finden sich vor allem in den höheren Lagen und zeugen von den Ablagerungen in einem ehemaligen Meer.

THE GEOLOGICAL FORMATION OF PAZNAUN The Paznaun Valley is located in the Central Eastern Alps and belongs to the geological unit of the Silvretta cover. This cover consists of rocks that were formed millions of years ago by the collision of the African and European continental plates. During this collision, the rocks were folded and deformed, resulting in the characteristic mountain formations in Paznaun.

The dominant rocks in Paznaun are slates, quartzites and limestones.

Slate rocks, formed from clay and silt sediments, are widespread and characterise the slopes and mountains of the region. Quartzites, formed from metamorphosed sandstone, form robust and resistant rock formations.

Limestones are found mainly at higher altitudes and bear witness to the deposits in a former sea.

GEOLOGISCHE VIELFALT Im Laufe der Zeit entstanden eine große Vielfalt an Gesteinsformationen im Paznaun. So findet man beispielsweise im Verwallgebirge, das das östliche Tal begrenzt, eindrucksvolle Gletscherschliffe, die auf die vergangene Vergletscherung hinweisen. Beeindruckende Karstlandschaften sind Zeugen von der chemischen Verwitterung der Kalksteine.

Eine geologische Besonderheit in der Region Paznaun sind die Minerallagerstätten. In der Umgebung von Galtür wurden zum Beispiel Zinnerze abgebaut. Diese Lagerstätten zeugen von den geologischen Prozessen, die die Entstehung von Mineralien und Erzen ermöglichen.

1| ZEINISSEE-KOPSSTAUSEE TRAIL Von der Talstation der Alpkogelbahn geht es zunächst Richtung Zeinisbach, anschließend über einen Fahrweg hinauf zum Zeinisjoch (1.820 m, Grenze zwischen Tirol und Vorarlberg).

Danach führt der Weg vorbei am kristallklaren Zeinissee zum Alpengasthaus Zeinisjoch (Einkehrmöglichkeit). Von da aus gelangt man über die Kopserstraße bis auf den Wanderweg rund um den Kopsstausee. Nach fast vollständiger Umrundung folgt man der Beschilderung zur Bergstation der Alpkogelbahn.

Optional: Einkehr auf der Faulbrunn Alm. Mit der Alpkogelbahn geht es danach gemütlich und gelenkschonend hinab ins Tal.

From the valley station of the Alpkogelbahn cable car, first head towards the Zeinisbach stream, then take the road up to the Zeinisjoch (1,842 m, border between Tyrol and Vorarlberg). The trail then leads past the crystal-clear Zeinissee lake to the Alpine Inn Zeinisjoch (possible stop for refreshments). From there, you reach the hiking trail around the Kops Reservoir via the Kopserstraße. After almost completely circling the lake, follow the signs to the Alpkogelbahn mountain station. Optional: stop for a break at the Faulbrunn Alm lodge. Afterwards, the Alpkogelbahn cable car takes you down to the valley in a comfortable way that is easy on the joints.

2| BERGLISEE TRAIL Die Tour startet beim Infobüro in Galtür. Von dort geht es über den Jambach auf den Wanderweg Richtung Stafali Weiher.

In gemäßigter Steigung führt der Weg durch den Tschafeiner Wald bis zur Larein Alpe auf 1.860 m (Möglichkeit zur Einkehr).

Es folgt der Anstieg zum Berglisee auf 2.115 m. Der azurblaue See eröffnet einen wunderschönen Blick auf das umliegende Bergpanorama. Vom See führt entweder eine Forststraße, oder ein steiler, mit Zirben und Lärchen gesäumter Weg hinunter Richtung Mathon. Über die Trisanna gelangt man ins Dorfzentrum und zur Bushaltestelle. Retour zum Startpunkt geht es mit dem Bus.

The tour starts at the Tourist Office in Galtür. From there, cross the Jambach and take the hiking trail in the direction of Stafali Weiher pond. The trail leads on a moderate incline through the Tschafein forest to the Larein Alpe lodge at 1,850 m (possible stop for refreshments). The ascent to the Berglisee lake at 2,115 m follows.

The azure lake opens up a wonderful view of the surrounding mountain panorama. From the lake, either a forest road or a steep path lined with stone pines and larches leads down towards Mathon. Cross the Trisanna to reach the village centre and the bus stop. Return to the starting point by bus.

3| 1000 HÖHENMETER TRAIL Ausgangspunkt für diese Route ist die Bushaltestelle „Galtür Tschafein“. Hier startet der 1.000 Höhenmeterweg Richtung Sonnenkogel und Friedrichshafener Hütte. Nach rund 200 Höhenmetern erreicht man eine Weggabelung. Es folgt der weitere Anstieg durch steileres Gelände mit einigen Aussichtspunkten bis zur Anhöhe. Oben angekommen, gibt es für den Weg retour zwei Möglichkeiten: entweder über den Fahrweg Richtung Friedrichshafener Hütte (2.138 m, Möglichkeit zur Einkehr) oder wieder über die Aufstiegsroute zurück.

The starting point for this route is the bus stop „Galtür Tschafein“.

The „1,000 vertical metre trail“ starts here in the direction of Sonnenkogel and Friedrichshafener Hütte lodge. After about 200 metres in altitude you reach a fork in the trail. This is followed by a further ascent through steeper terrain up to the top of the hill with several lookout points. Once at the top, there are two options for the way back: either via the road towards the Friedrichshafener Hütte (2,151 m, possible stop for refreshments) or back via the ascent route.

4| MADLEINSEE TRAIL Diese Route startet in Ischgl bei der Haltestelle „Ischgl Tunnel Prenner“. Die Wanderung beginnt zunächst auf einem Fahrweg Richtung Therme Ischgl. Danach führt ein Wanderweg ins malerische Madleintal. Die Strecke verläuft durch den Wald entlang des Madleinbachs über die Madleinalpe und endet am wunderschönen Madleinsee. Der See ist umgeben von vielen Dreitausendern – einer davon ist die Kuchenspitze (3.148 m).

Die Tour führt durch atemberaubendes alpines Gelände und ist durch die markierten Wanderwege leicht zugänglich. Über die Aufstiegsroute gelangt man zurück ins Tal.

This route starts in Ischgl at the „Ischgl Tunnel Prenner“ bus stop.

The hike first begins on a driveway in the direction of the Therme Ischgl. Then a hiking trail leads into the picturesque Madlein valley. The route runs through the forest along the Madleinbach stream over the Madleinalpe and ends at the beautiful Madleinsee lake. The lake is surrounded by many three-thousand-metre peaks – one of which is the Kuchenspitze (3,151 m). The tour leads through breathtaking alpine terrain and is easily accessible thanks to the marked hiking trails. You return to the valley via the ascent route.

5| BERGLI TRAIL Die Tour startet bei der Bushaltestelle „Mathon West“. Von dort aus geht es über die Trisanna in Richtung Berglisee. Der Weg führt durch waldiges Gebiet ca. 600 Höhenmeter hinauf bis zum Innerbergli. Ab hier weiter auf einem Teil des Paznauner Höhenwegs Richtung Osten. Oberhalb der Waldgrenze führt der Bergweg über das Außerbergli hinauf auf den Rauher Kopf (2.478 m). Der Abstieg erfolgt über den Tschamatschkopf (2.145 m) in Richtung Ischgl. Durch das Fimbatal erreicht man schließlich den Endpunkt der Route, die Talstation der Silvrettabahn.

The tour starts at the „Mathon West“ bus stop. From there it crosses the Trisanna in the direction of Berglisee. The trail leads through wooded terrain up about 600 metres in altitude to Innerbergli. From here continue eastwards on part of the Paznaun Höhenweg. Above the forest line, the mountain trail leads over the Außerbergli up to the Rauher Kopf (2,478 m). The descent is via the Tschamatschkopf (2,145 m) in the direction of Ischgl. Through the Fimbatal valley you finally reach the end point of the route, the valley station of the Silvrettabahn cable car.

6| NIEDERELBEHÜTTE TRAIL Die Tour beginnt in Kappl bei der Bushaltestelle „Ulmich Brücke“. Zunächst geht es über die Straße zum Weiler Ulmich, von wo aus der Wanderweg startet. Die wunderschöne Strecke führt zuerst durch waldiges Gebiet, später entlang des Alschnerbachs bis weit über die Baumgrenze. Hinter dem Seßgrat erreicht man die Niederelbehütte (2.310 m, Möglichkeit zur Einkehr). Weiter geht es auf dem panoramareichen Höhenweg bis zur Bergstation der Diasbahn (1.830 m). Hier gibt es verschiedene Einkehrmöglichkeiten. Mit der Gondel gelangt man wieder zurück ins Tal.

The beautiful route first leads through wooded areas, later along the Alschnerbach stream to well above the tree line. Der Weg führt entlang des Grübelebachs bis hinauf zum kristallklaren Grübelesee (2.108 m). 8| STIELALPE TRAIL Der Bergweg führt zunächst in Richtung des Weilers Habigen und verläuft dann entlang des Flathbachs hinein ins wunderschöne Flathbachtal. Auf einem ruhigen Waldweg gelangt man immer weiter ins Tal bis der Weg in Richtung Stielalpe abzweigt. Hier oben genießt man einen schönen Panoramablick und erreicht schließlich das Istalanztal. Es folgt der Abstieg entlang des Istalanzbachs bis zur Bergstation Medrigjochbahn.

The mountain trail first leads towards the hamlet of Habigen and then runs along the Flathbach stream into the beautiful Flathbach valley. On a quiet forest path you get further and further into the valley until the trail branches off in the direction of the Stielalpe.
