Photo by Sharla Ross The Lady Bulldogs (8-1-1) slammed the door on renewed rival Van Alstyne by a score of 11-3 to take home the GCEC tournament championship. The only bump in the road was a 2-2 tie with Whitewright, who knocked out Howe last year in state semifinal round. Howe started the tournament with an easy 11-0 win over Ector. Payton Streetman pitched three shutout innings although walking three. Erin Blackburn had a double, triple and four RBIs to lead the girls. Howe then tied Whitewright, 2-2. The Lady Tigers scored early and led 1-0, but it didn't take long for the Lady Bulldogs to answer as they scored two runs of their own in the first. allowed three runs over three innings. She struck out five, walked one and surrendered one hit. Anderson went 3 for 3 as she continued to swing the hot bat. Hargrove then faced Bells and went five strong innings allowing two earned runs. Again, Anderson went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs. The Lady Bulldogs won 7-3. The win over Bells thrusted Howe into the championship game with the home tournament team Van Alstyne. Eleven runs in the first three innings allowed the Lady Bulldogs to put the game away early and eventually win, 11-3. A two-run double by Torrey Stubblefield, an RBI single by Emily Sanders, and a steal of home by Kayla Anderson during the first inning set the tone for the Lady Bulldogs. Madisyn Hargrove chalked a threerun homer in the third inning.
