GEHL NEW AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT MANURE SPREADER WARRANTY GEHL AGRICULTURE DIVISION of the GEHL COMPANY, hereinafter referred to as Gehl, warrants new Gehl Manure Spreaders and attachments, to the original retail purchaser to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of twelve (12) months {ninety (90) days for commercial/custom use} from the warranty start date, except as set forth below: The sides against perforation (rust through), and floor against delamination, are warranted for a period of twelve (12) years from the warranty start date for replacement only, labor and freight excluded, unless defect occurs during initial twelve (12) month warranty period.

GEHL AGRICULTURE WARRANTY INCLUDES: Genuine Gehl parts and labor costs required to repair or replace equipment at the selling dealer’s business location.

GEHL MAKES NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED (INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR PARTICULAR PURPOSE), EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY STATED IN THIS WARRANTY STATEMENT.

GEHL WARRANTY DOES NOT INCLUDE: 1.

Transportation to selling dealer’s business location or, at the option of the original retail purchaser, the cost of a service call.

Used equipment.

3.

Components covered by their own non-Gehl warranties, such as tires, trade accessories and engines.

4.

Normal maintenance service and expendable, high wear items.

5.

Repairs or adjustments caused by: improper use; non-intended use; failure to follow recommended maintenance procedures; use of unauthorized attachments; accident or other casualty.

6.

Liability for incidental or consequential damages of any type, including, but not limited to lost profits or expenses of acquiring replacement equipment.

No agent, employee or representative of Gehl has any authority to bind Gehl to any warranty except as specifically set forth herein. Any of these limitations excluded by local law shall be deemed deleted from this warranty; all other terms will continue to apply.

The Manure Spreader model and serial numbers for this unit are on a decal located on the main frame at the front right corner of the box. “Right” and “left” are determined from a position standing behind the Spreader facing the direction of travel. From this position, the transmission and drive line are on the “left” side.

Standard hardware torques appear in a chart at the end of the manual.

Gehl Company reserves the right to make changes or improvements in the design or construction of any part without incurring the obligation to install such changes on any unit previously delivered.

More importantly, this manual provides an operating plan for safe and proper use of your machine. Major points of safe operation are detailed in the SAFETY chapter of this manual. Refer to the Table of Contents for an outline (by chapters) of this manual. Use the Index, located at the back of this manual, for specific chapter and topic/page number references.

A plastic pouch is provided on the unit for storing the operator’s manual. The pouch is located under the drive belt shield on the 1177, 1217 and 1287 models, and under the apron drive shield on the model 1410. After using the manual, please return it to the pouch and keep it with the unit at all times! Furthermore, if this machine is resold, Gehl Company recommends that this manual be given to the new owner.

If this machine was purchased “used,” or if the owner’s address has changed, please provide your Gehl dealer or Gehl Company with the owner’s name and current address, along with the machine model and serial number. MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE BEFORE unclogging, cleaning, lubricating or servicing the unit:

BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO OPERATE THIS EQUIPMENT, READ AND STUDY THE FOLLOWING SAFETY INFORMATION. IN ADDITION, MAKE SURE THAT EVERY INDIVIDUAL WHO OPERATES OR WORKS WITH THIS EQUIPMENT, WHETHER FAMILY MEMBER OR EMPLOYEE, IS FAMILIAR WITH THESE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS. Our Company ALWAYS takes the operator and his/her safety into consideration when designing its machinery and guards exposed moving parts for his/her protection.

However, some areas cannot be guarded or shielded in order to assure proper operation. In addition, this Operator’s Manual, and decals on the machine, warn of additional hazards and should be read and observed closely.

Disengage the tractor PTO and the remote hydraulic supply.

2.

Shut off the tractor engine, remove the ignition key and take it with you.

3.

Wait for all movement to stop.

4.

Remove the telescoping drive and ALL power connections from the tractor.

ONLY when you have taken these precautions can you be sure it is safe to proceed. Failure to follow the above procedure could lead to death or serious bodily injury.

ALWAYS wear safety glasses with side shields when striking metal against metal. In addition, it is recommended that a softer (chip-resistant) material be used to cushion the blow. Failure to heed could result in serious injury to the eyes or other parts of the body.

ALWAYS follow state and local regulations regarding use of a safety chain and transport lighting when towing farm equipment on public highways. Restrict highway towing speeds to 20 mph (32 km/h) maximum. BE SURE to check with local law enforcement agencies for your own particular regulations.

BE SURE rotating shields on telescoping PTO driveline turn freely BEFORE starting tractor engine.

NEVER use your hands to search for hydraulic fluid leaks. Use a piece of paper or cardboard. Escaping fluid under pressure can be invisible and penetrate the skin, causing a serious injury. If any fluid is injected into your skin, see a doctor at once. Injected fluid MUST be surgically removed by a doctor familiar with this type of injury or gangrene may result.

To ensure continued safe operation, replace damaged or worn-out parts with genuine GEHL service parts, BEFORE attempting to operate this equipment.

Our Company does not sell replacement tires. In addition, tire mounting, service or inflation can be dangerous. Whenever possible, trained personnel should be called to service and/or mount tires, following the tire manufacturer’s instruction. If you do not have such instructions, contact your tire dealer or our Company. In any event, to avoid possible fatal or serious injury, follow the specific directive given in the Service chapter of this manual.

BE SURE the hitchjack locking pin is completely engaged and that the machine is properly blocked and prevented from rolling BEFORE disconnecting the unit from the tractor.

Block the Spreader so it will not roll after it is disconnected from the tractor.

To avoid injury, stay out of the Manure Spreader box. If entrance into the box is required, BE SURE to exercise the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE BEFORE going in.

MANURE GAS IS A DEADLY KILLER! Good safety practices dictate that you NEVER enter a manure pit alone. BE SURE someone else is around to help you out in an emergency. Also, BE SURE to wear a selfcontained breathing apparatus, if you must enter a liquid manure pit.

REMEMBER, it is the owner’s responsibility for communicating information on the safe use and proper maintenance of this machine.

CHAPTER 5 CONTROLS & SAFETY EQUIPMENT NOTE:

This machine is provided with features for operator safety and convenience.

Manual apron control box Spreaders can be provided with a slow speed sprocket on the apron transmission drive shaft, which will reduce slow apron speed for spreading slurry grade manures. The sprocket is available from your dealer.

WARNING

NOTE:

BEFORE loading or after unloading and cleaning out the Spreader box, reset the indicator to the “neutral” position.

Become familiar with and know how to use ALL safety devices and controls on this machine BEFORE attempting to operate the unit. Know how to STOP machine operation BEFORE starting it.

Hydraulic Apron Control Units (Fig. 2) Hydraulic apron drive-equipped Spreaders feature a hydraulic motor-driven transmission. Oil flow to the drive motor is controlled by the amount of oil flow from the tractor remote outlet and the adjusted position of the 9 position control valve quadrant on the Spreader.

Slow-Fast adjustment of the regulator is controlled by a control rope on the front of the Spreader. Position of the regulator is visually displayed the control valve lever.

BEATER & APRON CONTROLS Manual Apron Control Units (Fig. 1) Manual apron control Gehl box Spreaders feature a beater and apron speed control that allows the conveyor apron to be operated at two speeds for unloading and to stop the beater(s) for box cleanout. The control mechanism is linked to the tractor by a control rope. A decal on the control quadrant shows the operator what control position has been selected.

WARNING BEFORE performing any work on the unit and BEFORE removing or opening any guards or covers, BE SURE to follow the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8).

Replace ALL guards and covers BEFORE resuming operation.

JACK (Fig. 1) A jack is furnished with the Spreader to support the machine when the tractor is disconnected, as well as to facilitate aligning the hitch clevis with the tractor drawbar for hookup.

When the jack is not being used to support the Spreader, it can be pivoted up to the “storage” position.

HYDRAULIC ENDGATE (OPTIONAL) (Fig. 4)

WARNING

The Manure Spreader can be equipped with an optional hydraulic endgate which uses tractor-operated hydraulic cylinder(s) to raise and lower the endgate. The endgate should be ordered and installed on any unit that is frequently used to haul manure over a public highway.

MAKE SURE the locking pin is properly seated into the holes through the jack tube frame and the plate on the Spreader A-frame, BEFORE the tractor is disconnected.

HYDRAULIC FEED CONTROL (OPTIONAL)(Fig. 3) This option is for the operator who wants to control the apron speed quadrant from the tractor cab.

With this kit, the feed control quadrant is stroked by the cylinder. With each stroke, the quadrant is advanced. An indicator decal indicates which feed notch is engaged.

After advancing the quadrant, the cylinder should be returned to the starting position. This allows the quadrant to rotate backward slightly against the stop.

If the Spreader is equipped with other hydraulic options, the tractor used must have enough hydraulic outlets to operate all options.

ONLY a safety chain (NOT an elastic or nylon/plastic tow strap) should be used to retain the connection between the towing and towed machines, in the event of separation of the primary attaching system.

BE SURE to check with local law enforcement agencies for your particular regulations.

As needed, the Spreader should be equipped with a safety chain for transporting the unit on a public highway. The chain should be routed as shown in Figure 5. Refer to the Transporting chapter of this manual for additional information.

TELESCOPING PTO DRIVE (See Fig. 1)

SMV EMBLEM, REFLECTORS & TRANSPORT LIGHTING (Figs. 3 & 6)

The telescoping PTO drive is provided with a springloaded locking device on each end to positively lock the drive connection onto the tractor PTO shaft and the Spreader drive input shaft. Depress the locking device against the spring tension, and slide the yoke onto its respective drive shaft. Release the locking device and move the yoke ahead or back until the lock engages into the groove of its respective shaft.

The telescoping PTO drive is designed to rotate freely inside the drive shield tubes.

Gehl Box Type Manure Spreaders are equipped with a Slow-Moving Vehicle (SMV) emblem mounting bracket on the left rear corner of the unit. The SMV emblem MUST be purchased separately. Red and amber reflec-

CHAPTER 6 OPERATION Cor-Ten steel box sides, a high density polyethylene tongue and groove plank floor, a beater drive transmission, a two-speed apron drive transmission and shear bolt overload protection on the apron transmission.

GENERAL INFORMATION

WARNING

Nutrient Value for Crop Production Different types of manure vary in nutrient content depending upon the animal type and livestock management system. Nutrients contained in manures are not immediately available to crops but are gradually released over time. Therefore, the amount of nutrients that should be credited from manure increases if applications are made to the same field for consecutive years. The N (Nitrogen) credit increases each successive year of application (up to three consecutive years) by approximately 30%. For example, N credits with consecutive applications of surface-applied dairy manure are 3, 4 and 5 lbs./ton N in the first, second, and third or more years of application, respectively (Table 1). Credits for P (Phosphate) and K (Potassium) increase somewhat less.

Read and observe ALL safety decals on the unit BEFORE operating it. Do NOT attempt to operate this equipment until ALL factoryinstalled guards and shields are properly secured in place. BEFORE starting the tractor engine and running the Spreader, review and comply with ALL applicable recommendations set forth in the SAFETY chapter of this manual.

Nutrient losses from manure can be minimized by incorporating surface applied manure within 72 hours.

If manure remains on the soil surface, losses of nutrients may occur to the atmosphere or in runoff.

To determine nutrient credits for manure that has not been analyzed, establish the field manure history and use the table values (Tables 1 & 3). Multiply the manure application rate by the appropriate nutrient content (lbs. per ton or lbs. per 1000 gal.). In situations where the

nutrient content of manure has been analyzed, multiply the total nutrient content by the appropriate percent available nutrient value (Table 2) by the application rate.

In summary, using the table information/data in conjunction with soil testing, an application rate can be determined that will fit your nutrient management plan.

The amount of material being applied can be measured by constructing an inside-measured 56″ x 56″ (1422 mm x 1422 mm) collection frame out of 2 x 4’s and plastic sheeting. The amount of material collected on the frame can be removed and weighed to determine how many tons or gallons per acre are being applied.

GENERAL INFORMATION Check for proper assembly and adjustment and make sure all bolts are tightened securely. Torque the wheel bolts to 120 ft. lbs. (163 N·m).

Check the tires and inflate them to the recommended pressure. See the Service chapter for details.

Adjust the tractor hitch and attach the Spreader to the tractor as described in this chapter.

Attach the feed control rope to a convenient point on the tractor, or connect the remote control hoses to the tractor hydraulic outlets.

Lubricate the Spreader completely and check the oil level of the gearboxes.

Operate the Spreader slowly for a period of time to run the chains in and determine that all parts work freely.

WARNING

A tractor of sufficient weight must be used for adequate traction, braking, and steering on hills.

Use a locking hitchpin (a pin with a positive retaining device) to connect the Spreader to the tractor drawbar.

TRACTOR HOOK-UP (Fig. 8) NOTE:

By design, the model 1177, 1217, and 1287 Spreaders can only be properly hooked up to a tractor that has PTO and hitch dimensions conforming to ASAE Standard S203. Horsepower required may vary according to the consistency of manure, ground speed and terrain.

Proper operation of a loaded Spreader requires a tractor with sufficient horsepower to run the PTO, and suffcient size to counterbalance the weight of a loaded Spreader.

Refer to the Specifications chapter for additional information.

NOTE:

By design, when the 540 RPM option is installed on the model 1410, the 1000 RPM dimension (16″) must be retained.

These Spreaders could possibly be operated with a smaller tractor, but smaller tractors do not have the traction to handle the bigger loads at normal road speed.

Remove the weight from the jack. Swing the jack to its horizontal storage position and lock it to provide maximum ground clearance.

Pull back on the collar and slide the PTO driveline onto the tractor shaft until the balls engage in the groove in the tractor shaft. Release the collar.

MAKE SURE that the PTO is locked on the shaft.

To remove the PTO, pull back on the collar to unlock the balls and slide the PTO driveline off the tractor shaft.

NOTE:

ATTACHING TO THE TRACTOR

The balls and yoke hub where the collar slides must be free of paint and rust and must be kept lubricated with oil for proper operation.

NOTE:

If this unit is connected to a tractor equipped with a clevis style drawbar, the clevis parts shown in dashed lines MUST be removed to prevent damage to the unit driveline. See Fig. 9 for details.

Using a tractor of the proper horsepower range and weight, fasten the Spreader hitch to the drawbar with a 1″ (25 mm) diameter locking hitch pin on 1177, 1217 and 1287 models, and with a 1-1/8″ (29 mm) diameter locking hitch pin on model 1410 so that the pin cannot bounce out.

Attach the hydraulic hoses to the tractor hydraulic outlets. Keep the hydraulics clean. Always clean the hydraulic hose fittings before connecting them to the tractor hydraulic couplings.

NOTE:

On machines with the hydraulic apron drive, refer to Figure 11 and be sure that the hose connected to the bottom of the control valve is pressurized. The hose connected to the tee is the return hose. A check valve at the orbit motor prevents pressurizing the return hose, which would run the apron in reverse.

WARNING Damage to the Spreader or another vehicle, and injury to the operator, may occur if an incorrect pin is used. A safety chain should also be used when traveling on public roadways.

To operate the Spreader with a tractor with closed-center hydraulics, remove tee, Figure 11, from the valve. Plug the valve port from which the tee was removed with a 1/2 ″ (12.7 mm) NPT pipe plug. Install a 1/2 ″ (12.7 mm) NPT pipe cap on the end of the tee. Carefully reposition tube, so a hose clamp can be installed to support the tube.

spread than other loads, especially in long straw manure. Avoid excessively large scoops of straw manure when using a mechanical loader.

The safety chain shown in Figure 10 is intended to keep the Spreader under control in the event of loss or failure of the hitch pin or bolt. This option is available from your dealer. The chain should be supported with a clevis as shown.

Never haul loads exceeding the maximum net weight, as called out in the Specifications chapter of this manual.

Before unhooking the Spreader, make sure the PTO driveline, control ropes, and hydraulic hoses are disconnected.

For best spreading, level the load about 12″-14″ (305 mm-356 mm) above the top of the beater. Never dump material onto the beater. Excessively high, heavy loads of mechanically loaded pen manure will decrease Spreader life. If higher loads are desired, install the optional upper beater.

WARNING

Slurry manure can be loaded to within 4″-5″ (102 mm-127 mm) of the top of the slurry sides. Loading to higher levels (depending on liquid content) will defeat the designed purpose of the slurry sides.

Park on level ground and block the wheels to prevent the Spreader from rolling.

LOADING

FEED CONTROL POSITIONS

Before loading the Spreader, be sure the apron feed control is in the neutral position. On mechanical drive machines, the control indicator points to “N” as shown in Figure 12. On hydraulic drive machines, the control lever is down as far as possible and the tractor hydraulic control lever is in neutral. In freezing weather, make certain the apron chain is not frozen to the Spreader floor or apron return guides. Make sure there are no lumps of manure frozen to the floor.

Mechanical Drive The four feed control quadrant positions are shown in Figure 12.

N -- Neutral: Only the beater is operating (loading position).

-- Slow: The apron is moving slowly for normal application of manure.

-- Fast: The apron moves at a higher speed for heavy application of manure.

C -- Clean-out: The beater is stopped. The apron continues to operate at the fast speed to clean the floor of manure.

The apron control is shown in the neutral position in Figure 12.

The apron speed control lever is activated by pulling the control rope.

NOTE:

The Spreader controls can be shifted by pulling the control rope from neutral, to slow speed, to fast speed, and to clean-out with the PTO operating.

Begin loading the Spreader at the front end and work toward the rear until loading is completed. Loading this way permits the material to be spread uniformly and reduces the draft load.

NOTE:

In freezing weather, lubricating all sliding and pivoting points helps keep them free and working properly.

The PTO MUST be stopped when shifting from clean - out (C) to neutral (N).

If the optional hydraulic apron control is being used, always retract the cylinder after shifting the rotary control. This allows the rotary quadrant to rotate back against the holding pawl for better control linkage adjustment.

Loading from front to rear is particularly important when the Spreader is loaded by a mechanical loader, because this type of load requires more power to 907540/DP0704

Hydraulic Drive

ground speed at no more than 5 mph (8 km/h). Do not operate the Spreader with a PTO speed greater than the standard rating of 540 RPM or 1000 RPM.

The hydraulic drive apron will operate only when the tractor hydraulic lever is activated.

IMPORTANT: When the Spreader is loaded, do not operate the tractor control if the beater is not operating or damage to the beater and/or drive may occur.

The flow control valve quadrant shown in Figure 11 has nine positions. When the lever is down, the valve is closed (neutral). Each stop on the quadrant opens the valve further to increase the flow and apron speed.

Depending on the tractor hydraulic system, the apron may not start to move until the quadrant is advanced several stops and/or the speed may not increase in the top several positions. The apron speed at any position is determined by the flow rate provided by the tractor.

Pulling the control rope advances the quadrant pawl.

When the rope is pulled to advance the pawl to the top of the quadrant, the pawl will be forced to the rear and away from the stop notches. This will allow the pawl to return to the down (neutral) position.

NOTE: The rope should be tied to the lever using a large knot. The knot acts as a stop to prevent the pawl from disengaging. When the rope is pulled, the tip of the pawl should not go past the travel limit as shown in Figure 11.

IMPORTANT:

Operating at over the rated speed will shorten the life of the Spreader.

NOTE:

If a lighter application of manure is desired with a mechanical drive machine, an optional slower Apron Speed Kit is available from your Gehl dealer.

The rate of application can be further controlled by selecting the appropriate gear of the tractor to regulate ground speed. Note that an almost unlimited choice of spreading rates is possible by various combinations of ground speed and apron speed. See the charts on page 20 for spreading rates.

Unplugging NOTE:

It is advisable to load the Spreader only with material and weight that it is designed to spread. Overloading the Spreader or foreign objects in the manure may jam or plug the Spreader.

Should this occur, take the following steps to clean the Spreader, OBSERVING THE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS IN THIS MANUAL.

SPREADING

WARNING

When ready to unload the Spreader, make sure the feed control lever is in the neutral (N) position. Then start the beater by engaging the tractor PTO at approximately 1/2 throttle.

NOTE: ALWAYS start the beater with the quadrant in the neutral (N) position. Then the apron can be engaged by pulling the control rope to select the desired rate of manure application.

NOTE: If using a hydraulic endgate while hauling dry or pen packed manure, raise the endgate completely before starting the apron.

If hauling slurry manure (which flows readily), start the beater, then raise the hydraulic endgate slowly to regulate the flow of manure. Slurry manure is animal waste with little or no bedding or water-absorbing materials added. It will usually seek its own level within any given confinement. Once the slurry manure has reached its level, depending on flowability, the endgate can be raised completely.

For best results, the operator should run the tractor at the rated PTO speed of 540 RPM or 1000 RPM and regulate

When any part of the Spreader becomes plugged, stop the unit IMMEDIATELY by disengaging the tractor PTO and remote hydraulic outlet. Then, follow the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8) BEFORE leaving the tractor seat to remedy the plugging problem.

If the Spreader becomes plugged, the area ahead of the beater(s) will probably have to be unloaded so that the beater(s) are free to rotate. After unplugging, replace any bolts that may have sheared and BE SURE that the control indicator is in the “Neutral” position BEFORE restarting the tractor and engaging the PTO. Only one person should attempt to unplug a machine.

Hydraulic Drive Machines

NOTE:

ALWAYS start the beater before engaging the apron drive.

The apron is started by pulling the rope or actuating the tractor hydraulics (when equipped with optional hydraulic feed control), to rotate the quadrant to the “S” position, or slow speed. In the slow position, a light application of manure is applied. A heavy application can be obtained by rotating the quadrant to the “F” position, or fast apron speed.

When ready to spread, start the beater by engaging the tractor PTO at half throttle or less.

Move the tractor hydraulic control lever to the operating position. Pull the rope attached to the quadrant control lever to select an apron speed for the desired rate of manure application. The apron can also be started by first selecting a slow speed position of the quadrant control lever and then engaging the tractor hydraulics.

The apron speed control lever can be moved from slow ( ) to fast ( ) while unloading. Occasionally, a momentary declutching of the tractor PTO is required to complete the apron speed change from slow to fast when the apron is operating under load.

NOTE:

When the Spreader is almost empty, the bed can be cleaned thoroughly by pulling the control rope and rotating the quadrant to the clean-out (C) position. With the quadrant in this position, the beaters will stop and the apron will continue to operate, saving unnecessary driving.

NOTE:

If the beater slows down, reduce the apron speed by pulling the control rope to advance the pawl to the top of the quadrant so it will engage the track to return to neutral when tension on the rope is released. Advance the control to the new position.

NOTE:

It is recommended that the quadrant setting be 5 or under when spreading pen manure to avoid slippage and beater overload.

Do not start the apron with the control lever more than four notches from the bottom.

If a fine manure pan is being used, pull the pan release rope and allow the pan to swing open before shifting the apron speed control into clean-out (C).

To clean the bed of the Spreader, advance the apron speed control to maximum and disengage the beater by stopping the tractor PTO.

When the bed is empty, stop the PTO and move the control lever to the neutral (N) position.

IMPORTANT:

Always stop the PTO before moving the feed control lever from the clean-out (C) position to avoid undue stress on the Spreader.

NOTE:

NOTE:

If a fine manure pan is being used, pull the pan release rope and allow the pan to swing open before stopping the beater. When the bed is empty, disengage the tractor hydraulic control and return the feed control lever to neutral (bottom of quadrant).

If the Spreader is equipped with a hydraulic endgate or fine manure pan, lower the hydraulic endgate and be sure the pan is closed to prevent damage while traveling at fast ground speeds.

CHAPTER 7 ADJUSTMENTS DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT (Fig. 13)

WARNING

Open or remove the main shield as required.

BEFORE performing any adjustments on this unit, follow the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8).

Loosen the two jam nuts on the belt idler J-bolt.

3.

Remove the old belts. ALWAYS replace belts in pairs.

DRIVE BELT (Fig. 13)

4.

Install the new belts by working them around the end of the drive shaft. Install both belts on the drive sheave BEFORE installing either on the driven sheave.

5.

Place the lower strand of both belts on the idler.

6.

To tension the belts, tighten the two jam nuts on the J-bolt, until the spring is compressed to the length of the spring gauge, 2- 1/2″ (64 mm).

7.

Close or replace the main shield.

IMPORTANT:

The belt tension should be checked and adjusted after the first 10 to 15 loads, due to the effect of initial belt stretch and wearing of paint from the sheave grooves. Thereafter, it should be checked every 300 loads.

Adjust the belt tension by tightening the nuts on the Jbolt, Figure 13, until the compression spring is the length of the gauge, 2-1/2″ (64 mm).

Sudden shock loads can occur and can cause belt slippage. When this happens, determine the cause and clear the obstruction before attempting to restart the machine.

IMPORTANT:

Check and adjust the new belts after 10-15 loads to compensate for initial stretch.

APRON CHAIN(S) (Figs. 14 - 18)

IMPORTANT:

The belt should never be adjusted tighter than recommended as a means of starting a plugged Spreader. Also, tightening the belt excessively may result in damage to the Spreader.

Periodically inspect the apron for bent or damaged slats.

Always straighten or replace any bent or damaged slats immediately.

NOTE:

Tighten the adjusting bolts equally on each side so the apron slats run parallel with the ends of the bed. The apron can be damaged if the machine is operated with one end of the apron slats running ahead of the opposite end. Do not tighten the apron chains excessively.

Single Chain Aprons Adjust the apron by loosening the idler mounting bolts in Figure 14 or Figure 15, on both sides. Tighten the adjusting bolts on both sides until the chain slat clears the underside of the axle 1/2″ to 1-1/2″ (12.7 mm to 38 mm) on models 1177, 1217 and 1287. On model 1410, the apron chain should be adjusted to maintain a distance of 1/8″ to 3/8″ (3.2 mm to 9.5 mm) between the apron chain and support tube at the rear of the Spreader.

Tighten the mounting bolts.

Chapter 7 - Adjustments

The pintle chain can easily be shortened by removing two links on each side. Locate the chain coupler links with cotter pins, and remove. See Figure 16. A full range of adjustments is available for the apron chain.

The T-rod apron chain must be kept within the adjustment range of 1/2″ to 1-1/2″ (12.7 mm to 38 mm) below the axle at all times. A loose T-rod apron chain may disconnect if not properly tensioned.

The T-rod chain can be shortened when necessary by removing the chain tension, turning the chain at an angle, and removing the link. BE SURE to remove a link from both sides of the to keep the apron slats running parallel.

Double Chain Aprons (1410 ONLY) The apron chains should be adjusted to maintain a distance of 1/8″ to 3/8″ (3.2 mm to 9.5 mm) between the apron chain and support tube at the rear of the Spreader.

On the double chain apron machines, adjust the center strands of the apron chains with the bolts shown in Figure 17. The top bolt adjusts the right chain, and the bottom bolt adjusts the left chain. Adjust the outer chains with nut, Figure 18, on each side of the Spreader.

Adjust the outer chains after the center chains. Adjust so the front idler shafts are straight.

GEARBOX DRIVE CHAINS (Fig. 19) Adjust the gearbox drive chains to deflect 1/4″ to 3/8″ (6.4 mm to 9.5 mm) with 5 lbs. (22 N) force at the mid-span of the chain. Adjust the chains by moving the idler blocks. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE CHAINS. Before tightening the worm gearbox drive chain, do the following: 1 1 - Outer chain adjustment nut

Place the rotary quadrant in slow position.

2.

Rotate the Spreader drive shaft in the direction of operation at least five revolutions.

3.

Tension the worm gearbox drive chains.

The apron drive is protected by a shear bolt. Refer to the individual model parts book for the proper shear bolt used in each model Spreader. Shearing of the bolt is usually due to the apron being frozen to the floor, or the slats catching on manure frozen to the floor.

Check the feed control system at the beginning of each season and adjust, if necessary, to compensate for wear.

Be sure the control linkage always works freely.

Adjust the unloading speed linkage using the following steps:

An extra shear bolt is carried in the support as shown.

In some cases, the bolts will shear due to the Spreader being overloaded. If the bolt shears, the drive hub can be rotated counterclockwise until the bolt holes align.

Always determine the cause of the failure, and eliminate it before installing the new bolt. Use a genuine GEHL shear bolt.

Set the apron speed control quadrant in slow position.

2.

Rotate the drive shaft by hand until the clutch teeth and slow speed sprocket teeth engage as shown in Figure 20.

3.

Adjust eyebolt, Figure 20, until the driving teeth of the shifting clutch are engaged fully with the teeth on the slow speed sprocket. Proper engagement is when both clutch and slow speed sprocket are flush to 1/16″ (1.6 mm) extended from the sprocket tooth.

4.

Move the feed control quadrant to the position or fast apron speed. In this position the sliding clutch half should be fully seated in the front (high speed) sprocket, Figure 21.

5.

Adjust the control rod, Figure 21, so the rollers just clear the beater clutch hub.

6.

Move the feed control lever to “C”, cleanout position (beater not operating). There should be 1/8″ (3.2 mm) clearance between the beater clutch teeth. Adjust the length of the control rod, Figure 21, to obtain 1/8″ to 3/16″ (3.2 mm to 4.8 mm) clearance between the clutch jaws as shown in Figure 22.

WHEEL BEARINGS Adjust wheel hub bearings after 100 loads, and once each season thereafter.

Jack up the Spreader to remove the weight from the wheel(s). Torque wheel hub bearings to 35 ft. lbs. (47 N·m) while rotating the hub. Back off the nut one flat plus enough to install the cotter pin; 1/6 turn minimum, 1/3 turn maximum.

WARNING

OILING

NEVER lubricate the machine when any part of the unit is in motion. ALWAYS, BE SURE to follow the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8) BEFORE lubricating the machine.

Lubricate all drive chains every 100 loads of operation (or monthly) using a good grade of foaming aerosol lubricant or clean motor oil. The recommended method is to spray the entire length of chain on the center of the rollers. It is better to lubricate chains when they are warm (after use, rather than before).

A sufficient amount of oil or grease will prevent excessive part wear and early failure. Some of the photographs will show shields or guards removed for clarity. NEVER operate Spreader without all shields and guards properly installed.

In addition to the roller chains, apply motor oil or foaming aerosol lubricant to the telescoping PTO drive guard and the upper beater drive chain (where provided).

Lubricate the apron chains with SAE #30 oil or similar lubricant at least twice yearly. If the Spreader is stored outdoors or if the manure being hauled is of a highly acid nature, more frequent lubrication will be required.

NOTE:

Whenever service is performed on hydraulic components (valves, cylinders, hoses, etc.) or transmissions, care must be taken to prevent discharging fluid onto the ground.

Catch and dispose of fluid per local waste disposal regulations.

GREASING Wipe dirt from the fittings before greasing to prevent any dirt from being forced into the bearings or pivots.

Replace any missing fittings, when noted. To minimize dirt build-up, avoid excessive greasing.

TRANSMISSIONS Periodically check the oil level in each transmission. In the beater drive transmission, replenish the oil, as necessary, with SAE #90 gear oil. For the apron drive transmission, use only special Gehl gear lube (part

Inflating or servicing tires can be hazardous.

Whenever possible, trained personnel should be called to service or mount tires. To avoid possible death or serious injury, follow the safety precautions below:

TIRES & WHEELS

BE SURE the rim is clean and free of rust.

Lubricate both the tire beads and rim flanges with a soap solution. DO NOT use oil or grease.

•

Use a clip-on tire chuck with a remote hose and gauge which allows you to stand clear of the tire while inflating it.

•

DO NOT place fingers on the tire bead or rim during inflation.

•

NEVER inflate beyond 35 PSI (241 kPa) to seat the beads. If the beads have not seated by the time the pressure reaches 35 PSI, deflate the assembly, reposition the tire on the rim, relubricate both parts and re-inflate it. Inflation pressure beyond 35 PSI with unseated beads may break the bead or rim with explosive force sufficient to cause death or serious injury.

•

After seating the beads, adjust the inflation pressure to the recommended operating pressure listed.

•

DO NOT weld, braze, or otherwise attempt to repair and use a damaged rim.

To change the drive from 540 RPM tractor PTO to 1000 RPM tractor PTO, do the following: 1. Loosen the drive belt and remove the drive shaft assembly, Figure 23, from the Spreader.

2. Remove the drive sheave from the rear of the drive shaft.

3. Remove the driven sheave from the propeller shaft. Install this 12-1/2″ (318 mm) sheave on the rear of the drive shaft.

4. Torque the castellated nut to 20 ft. lbs. (27 N·m).

Back off the nut two flats, plus enough to install the cotter pin. Reinstall the drive shaft assembly on the Spreader as shown in Figure 24.

5. Move the belt idler pivot from the position shown in Figure 23 to the position shown in Figure 24.

Remove the belt shield. Reinstall it in the outer position as shown Figure 25.

6. Install a new 16-3/4″ (425 mm) sheave, Figure 24, (available from your dealer) on the propeller shaft.

Align it with the drive sheave.

7. Reinstall the drive belt and adjust the belt tension so the spring is compressed to the length of the gauge or 2-5/8″ (67 mm). See Figure 24.

8. Close and secure the shield.

9. A 1000 RPM front PTO section must be installed (available from your dealer).

CHAPTER 10 TRANSPORTING SAFETY CHAIN (Fig. 26)

The Spreader can be equipped with a safety chain for travel on public highways. Refer to the Optional Features & Accessories chapter for information.

The safety chain should be attached to the tractor and Spreader as shown. When attached in this manner, the safety chain should be sufficiently slack to allow turns and movements of either the tractor or the Spreader, without placing tension on the chain, and be of sufficient strength to hold the decoupled implement (and its load) and tow it to the shoulder.

For towing the Spreader on a public highway after dark, a red reflector strip is provided on the left rear corner.

Unless prohibited by local codes, use a Slow-Moving Vehicle (SMV) emblem (purchased locally) when transporting the Spreader on a public highway. A bracket is provided on the left rear side of the Spreader for mounting the emblem.

CHAPTER 11 STORAGE Because a Manure Spreader is generally a year-round implement, it should be in ready-to-operate condition at all times. Several provisions have been designed into the Manure Spreader to enable it to be used in cold, moderate and warm temperatures. The most important factor for continuous proper operation is lubrication.

Routine lubrication should be repeated more frequently in both temperature extremes.

If after being used the Spreader is not to be used for some time, perform the following steps to ensure long life and trouble free start-up for the next usage:

When operating the Spreader in freezing temperatures, the unit should be stored inside, if possible. Refer to Operation chapter for special operating procedures in freezing temperatures.

Remove all manure from the inside and outside of the Spreader. Wash the Spreader thoroughly with water from a hose or pressure washer.

CHAPTER 13 SET-UP & ASSEMBLY GENERAL INFORMATION

Before installing the wheels, clean the paint from the lug bolt chamfers, Figure 28, on each wheel rim.

IMPORTANT: Do not use an impact wrench to tighten the wheels. Over-torquing the wheels will distort the rims, and the lug bolts will not remain tight.

The following procedures should be performed inside an enclosed workshop that is equipped with the proper tools and an overhead hoist. Although the procedures imply a single set-up person, two people can and will be able to assemble the components to the machine more quickly and easily.

Tire Pressure Inflate the tires to 32 PSI (221 kPa) for 16.5L x 16.1 flotation tires, 35 PSI ( 241 kPa) for 19L x 16.1 flotation tires, for 50 PSI (345 kPa) for 10.00 x 20 truck tires, or 60 PSI (414 kPa) for 11.00 x 20 or 11.00 x 22.5 truck tires.

The parts shipped inside the Spreader should be removed first. This will reduce the weight of the Spreader for handling.

IMPORTANT:

Be careful not to damage the Spreader floor when lifting the parts from the Spreader box.

IMPORTANT:

If an overhead hoist is used to lift the Spreader, BE SURE to use a long lifting chain or Spreader bar when hoisting to avoid distorting the Spreader box.

After removing the Spreader from the shipping position, place the Spreader on blocks

Block up the Spreader so the bottom of the frame is at least 18″ (457 mm) above the ground.

TIRES, WHEELS & AXLES If the Spreader is ordered without mounted tires, tire mounting should only be performed by a qualified tire manufacturer’s installer, or by properly trained personnel following the manufacturer’s instructions.

All truck-type tires MUST be mounted with inner tubes.

Single Axle Models (1177, 1217) IMPORTANT:

A Spreader with used or recapped truck tires that have inner tubes with long valve stems MUST be mounted with the valve stems facing the outside of the Spreader Place the jack in the park position. Install the wheels with the eight wheel lug bolts and torque the bolts to 120 ft. lbs. (163 N·m). Heavy duty wheels with 11.00″ x 22.5″ tires use eight Grade 8 cap screws and flat washers. Torque to 150 ft. lbs. (203 N·m). Then lower the Spreader to the ground.

If still attached, remove the chains used to unload the Spreader.

WARNING Tire mounting, inflating, repair and replacements should only be performed by a qualified tire manufacturer’s representative, or by properly trained personnel following the tire manufacturer’s instructions. Refer to the Service chapter for additional details.

Chapter 13 - Set-up & Assembly

Tandem Axle Models (1287 & 1410) (Figs. 29 - 32)

Place the jack in the park position. Install the wheels with the eight wheel lug bolts and torque the bolts to 120 ft. lbs. (163 N·m). Heavy duty wheel with 11.00″ x 22.5″ tires uses eight Grade 8 cap screws and flat washers.

Torque to 150 ft. lbs. (203 N·m). Then lower the Spreader to the ground.

NOTE:

A Spreader with used or recapped truck tires that have inner tubes with long valve stems MUST be mounted with the valve stems facing the outside of the Spreader

If still attached, remove the chains used to unload the Spreader.

Chain Guide & Wheels (1287 ONLY)

Install the chain guide shown in Figure 30, using 1/2″ x 1″ (12.7 mm x 25 mm) cap screws, lock washers, and nuts. Adjust the apron chain so it clears the underside of the axle 1/2″ to 1-1/2″ (12.7 mm to 38 mm).

Apron chain guides are used as tandem axle shipping brackets as shown in Figure 29. Remove the apron chain guide from the shipping position.

Model 1410 Clean the wheel beam pivot pin and lubricate with a good grade of lithium-based grease.

Install a washer on the pivot pin and slide the pin into the Spreader axle assembly. Make sure the longer section of the wheel beam is to the front of the Spreader as shown in Figure 31.

Install spacer washers on the pivot pin, Figure 32, as needed, leaving enough room to install two square washers and a 7/16″ x 4-1/2″ (11.1 mm x 114 mm) cap screw and locknut. Install the cap screw with the nut on top of the pivot pin as shown in Figure 32.

Install the axle on the right side in a similar manner.

IMPORTANT:

The cap screw in Figure 32 MUST be installed with the threads and nut on top of the pivot pin as shown. If installed backwards with the nut on the bottom of the pivot, the extra thread length will catch on the moving apron slats and damage both the slat and apron assembly.

NOTE:

The chain guide hardware, Figure 34, may need to be loosened to allow the hitch channels to be installed.

Install the wheels with the eight wheel lug bolts and torque the bolts to 120 ft. lbs. (163 N·m). Heavy duty wheels with 11.00″ x 22.5″ tires uses eight Grade 8 cap screws and flat washers. Torque to 150 ft. lbs. (203 N·m).

Remove the jack and shaft assembly from the hitch assembly, Figure 33. Slide the rear of the hitch assembly, into place under the Spreader. Support the front of the hitch assembly and bring the rail into place against the hitch as shown in Figure 33.

SHIPPING BRACKETS (1177, 1217 & 1287 ONLY) Remove and discard the lower two shipping brackets at the rear of the Spreader. Install a new 1/2″ x 1-3/4″ (12.7 mm x 44 mm) cap screw, lock washer, and nut at the lower front corner of the apron drive gearbox. Torque it to 66 ft. lbs. (89 N·m).

Remove the bolts, holding the upper shipping brackets and plank. Replace the four bolts with 3/8″ x 3/4″ (9.5 mm x 19 mm) cap screws and flange nuts.

Remove the front wood shipping support. If a front splash guard is not to be installed, use plastic plugs or 3/8″ x 3/4″ (9.5 mm x 19 mm) round-head, short square neck bolts and flange nuts to fill the holes.

HITCH (1410 ONLY)

NOTE:

All of the 1/2″ (12.7 mm) cap screws used to assemble the hitch should be installed with a hardened flat washer under both the head of the bolt and nut. Install the bolts with the heads to the outside to reduce tire damage when turning. Do not tighten any hardware until assembly is complete.

Slide the other rail against the hitch and attach with 1/2″ x 1-1/2″ (12.7 mm x 38 mm) cap screws, nuts and two flat washers as shown in Figure 35. Attach side brackets, Figures 35 and 36, to the hitch rails with 1/2″ x 1-1/2″ (12.7 mm x 38 mm) cap screws, nuts and flat washers.

Attach the side brackets, Figure 36, to the Spreader with 5/8″ x 1-3/4″ (15.9 mm x 44 mm) cap screws, locknuts, and flat washers.

Attach the hitch channels to the main frame with 1/2″ x 1-1/2″ (12.7 mm x 38 mm) cap screws, flat washers and nuts as shown in Figure 37. Attach the hitch channels to the box support with four 3/8″ x 1-1/4″ (9.5 mm x 32 mm) cap screws and flange nuts. Tighten chain guide hardware. Assemble the left side in a similar manner.

Reinstall the jack and shaft assembly, Figure 38, with 1/2″ x 1-1/2″ (12.7 mm x 38 mm) cap screws, nuts, and flat washers.

Tighten all 1/2″ (12.7 mm) hardware at this time.

Locate the PTO shaft bearing housing to the front side of the bearing support and install 3/8″ x 1″ (9.5 mm x 25 mm) cap screws and flange nuts as shown in Figure 38, to retain the PTO shaft bearing housing. Place the drive belt on the pulley as shown and attach the shaft support to the main frame with two 3/8″ x 1″ (9.5 mm x 25 mm) cap screws and flange nuts.

Install a square key in the propeller shaft and install driven sheave, Figure 39. Use a straightedge to align it with the drive sheave. Secure the driven sheave to the propeller shaft with two 3/8″ x 3/4″ (9.5 mm x 19 mm) set screws and jam nuts.

Install idler J-bolt, Figure 39, through the frame and the belt tension idler bracket. Install the spring tension gauge, spring, 3/8″ (9.5 mm) flat washer, and two 3/8″ (9.5 mm) nuts. Tighten the nuts until the spring is compressed to the length of the spring gauge. Check the alignment of the idler pulley and shim if necessary.

Remove the cotter key, slotted nut, and washer securing the drive sheave to the rear of the drive shaft.

3.

Install the large 15″ (381 mm) sheave on the rear of the drive shaft. Install the flat washer and castellated nut. Tighten securely. Then back off the nut to the nearest set of castellations and install the cotter key.

4.

Install the 11″ (279 mm) sheave on the propeller shaft as shown. Align with the drive sheave and secure with two 3/8″ x 3/4″ (9.5 mm x 19 mm) set screws and jam nuts, Figure 40.

5.

Reinstall the drive belts. Tighten the nuts on the belt idler J-bolt, until the spring is compressed to the length of the spring gauge.

NOTE:

If the Spreader is changed for 540 PTO operation, obtain a 143048 front PTO assembly from the Gehl Parts Department.

NOTE:

The drive shaft has been assembled with the 11″ (279 mm) drive sheave for 1000 RPM PTO tractors. If the Spreader is to be assembled for 540 RPM, the following procedure to convert it must be used.

1.

ROPE Thread one end of the control rope through the porcelain rope guide and through the hole in the control lever as shown in Figure 40. Tie a knot at the end of the rope.

Remove the drive shaft from the Spreader.

PTO & PTO SHIELD

NOTE:

On hydraulic drive machines, tie the rope to the lever using a large knot. The knot acts as a stop to prevent the pawl from disengaging.

When the rope is pulled, the tip of the pawl should not go past the point shown in Figure 41.

Install the PTO assembly as shown in Figure 43, to the drive shaft securing with a 1/4″ x 2-1/2″ (6.4 x 64 mm) Grade 8 cap screw and locknut.

Install the PTO shield as shown in Figure 44, securing with two 3/8″ x 3/4″ (9.5 mm x 19 mm) cap screws and flange nuts or two 3/8″ x 3/4″ (9.5 mm x 19 mm) cap screws, flat washers, and flange nuts.

SHIELD (1410 ONLY) Install the main drive shield as shown in Figure 42.

Secure the shield with a 3/8″ (9.5 mm) nut, lock washer, and flat washer or a 3/8″ x 1″ (9.5 mm x 25 mm) cap screw, flat washer, and flange nut in the locations shown.

Install the PTO hanger at the location shown in Figure 44.

Assemble the hardware on the inside of the channel, as shown in Figure 46, using a 3/8″ x 2″ (9.5 mm x 51 mm) cap screw, two 3/8″ (9.5 mm) thick spacers, a wide spacer, PTO hanger and two 3/8″ (9.5 mm) flange nuts.

Clamp flange nuts, against the PTO channel, such that the PTO hanger is free to rotate.

RUBBER PTO SHIELD (Fig. 47)

LUBRICATION

1.

Lubricate the machine carefully as recommended in the Lubrication chapter.

Install the rubber PTO shield as shown in Figure 47, securing with a 5/16 x 1″ (7.9 mm x 25 mm) cap screw, two flat washers and a lock nut in each of the four locations. BE SURE to place one of the flat washers under the head of the cap screw.

CHAPTER 14 OPTIONAL FEATURES & ACCESSORIES NOTE:

LIQUID SIDES

HYDRAULIC ENDGATE

Liquid sides are available for model 1177, 1217 and 1287 Spreaders. They will eliminate the many problems occurring when hauling soupy manure to the field in a box Spreader. The liquid sides must be used with the hydraulic endgate. The Litter Pan Kit should also be used for maximum effectiveness.

Installation information for all of the Optional Features & Accessories, described in this chapter, is provided in the Set-up & Assembly chapter, except for the safety chain, which is described in the Transporting chapter. See your Gehl dealer for proper kit numbers.

Hydraulic endgate packages are available to retain manure with a high liquid content. The endgate can be installed on a single beater Spreader or on a Spreader with the optional Upper Beater Kit installed.

HYDRAULIC FEED CONTROL This option allows the operator to hydraulically control the apron speed quadrant from the tractor cab.

LITTER PAN

With this kit, the feed control quadrant is stroked by the cylinder. With each stroke, the quadrant is advanced. An indicator decal indicates which feed notch is engaged.

After advancing the quadrant, the cylinder should be returned to the starting position. This allows the quadrant to rotate backward slightly against the stop.

If the Spreader is going to be transported on public highways, a litter pan should be obtained and installed to prevent manure from falling out the back of the Spreader and onto the highway.

NOTE:

The litter pan is NOT designed to retain material with a high liquid content nor to support the weight of material during transit.

NOTE:

If the Spreader is equipped with both a hydraulic endgate and hydraulic feed control, the tractor used must have dual hydraulic outlets to operate two hydraulic cylinders.

SAFETY CHAINS If the Spreader is going to be transported on public highways, a Safety Chain Kit should be installed, per details in the Transporting chapter. The kit includes a safety chain, a clevis and appropriate attaching hardware. Consult your dealer for the proper size safety chain for your individual Spreader.

SECOND BEATER & DRIVE ASSEMBLY As needed, the Spreader can be equipped with a second beater and drive assembly. The beater and drive assembly is designed to be installed on a Spreader to improve spreading high-piled solid manure.

SHEAR BOLTS Shear bolts for the apron transmission shear device is contained in a single shear bolt package. The shear bolt package contains (8) 3/8 x 1-1/2″ (9.5 mm x 38 mm) Grade 5 shear bolts and locknuts.

SLOW SPEED APRON SPROCKET

SPLASH SHIELD

A slow speed apron drive sprocket is available through service parts. The sprocket will slow the speed of the apron for lighter applications of manure.

The Spreader can be equipped with a Splash Shield Kit to prevent high liquid content manure from spilling over the front of the Spreader while traveling to the field. The splash shield can be conveniently attached to the top front edge of the Spreader using the hardware provided.

Speeds will be slowed from 4.5 fpm (137 cm/min) to 2.2 fpm (68 cm/min) on the 1177, 1217 and 1287 model Spreaders, and from 4.6 fpm (140 cm/min) to 3.0 fpm (91 cm/min) on the 1410 model Spreader in the slow speed position.

Decal locations information is provided to assist in the proper selection and application of new decals, in the event the original decals become damaged or the machine is repainted. Refer to the listing for the illustration reference number, part number, description and quantity of each decal provided in the kit. Refer to the appropriate illustrations for replacement locations.

Refer to the SAFETY chapter for the specific information provided on the various safety decals furnished in the decal kit(s).

To ensure proper selection for correct replacement decals, compare the various close-up location photographs to your machine BEFORE starting to refinish the unit. Then circle each pictured decal (applicable to your machine) while checking off its part number in the listing. After you have verified all the decals needed for replacement, set aside unneeded decals for disposal.

NEW DECAL APPLICATION Surfaces MUST be free from dirt, dust, grease and other foreign material before applying the new decal. To apply a solid-formed decal, remove the smaller portion of the decal backing paper and apply this part of the exposed adhesive backing to the clean surface while maintaining proper position and alignment. Slowly peel off the other portion of the backing paper while applying hand pressure to smooth out the decal surface.
