Lower the boom until the dipper is resting safety on a suitable stand. NOTE : Place the head of the dipper on a block of wood, so that the clamshell is laying in a horizontal position.

Another solution consists of placing the clamshell under the dipper in open position, with a wooden block under the dipper head and another between the clamshell and the dipper.

When on the job site, with no suitable stand available, it is possible to improvise by using a pile of earth, or sand, which will stand the weight of the dipper without collapsing.
