STORING THE MACHINE

The following procedure is to be used for storing the machine for a period of one month or more.

Preparation for storage

1. Park the machine on a flat, horizontal and clean surface. 2. Grease the whole machine. 3. Fully retract the dipper cylinder. 4. Grease the exposed surfaces of cylinder rods or coat them with a protective film (Aerosol spray ref. S1403568). NOTA : When the machine resumes service the film will disappear automatically. 5. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. 6. Clean the outer parts of the engine with diesel fuel. 7. While the engine is still warm, drain the oil sump and fill the engine with anti-corrosive oil up to the MAX mark on the dipstick. 8. Drain the fuel tank and fill with a mixture of 90% diesel fuel and 10% anti-corrosive oil. 9. Run the engine at idle speed for five minutes to allow the anti-corrosive oil to reach the lines, filters, pump, turbocharger and injectors. 10. Remove the rocker arm covers. Spray a mixture of 90% diesel fuel and 10% anticorrosive oil into the rocker arm chamber. Install the rocker arm covers. 11. Plug the air filter intake port and the exhaust pipe. 12. Disconnect the electrical system using the battery master switch. 13. Remove the batteries.

Periodic checks

Every month, check the following : 1. Battery charge. 2. Cylinder rod lubrication. 3. Level of fuel in the tank and anti-corrosive oil in the engine. Top up if necessary. 4. The condition of pipes, clamps and fittings (oxydation). Grease if necessary. 5. The condition of the paint. Apply a further coat of anti-rust liquid if necessary.

Starting up after storage

1. Grease the whole machine. 2. Install the parts previously removed. 3. Unplug the intake port and the exhaust pipe. 4. Drain the storage oil. 5. Replace the oil and fuel filters. 6. Fill the sump with engine oil. 7. Drain the fuel tank and fill with clean diesel fuel. 8. Clean the cylinder rods. 9. Check the tyre pressures. 10. Start the engine.

WARNING: Check the machine for leaks or for any other parts that are broken, defective or missing.

WARNING: Before starting the engine, make sure that all controls are in neutral position. This prevents the machine from moving unexpectedly or an electrical appliance from starting up.

WARNING: Avoid running the engine in a confined place. Make sure there is adequate ventilation at all times.
